About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- ILovePasta0 contributionsThe real deal: Support Local Family Businesses like this one!Great service from Rosario, Jennifer & team. A local family business that puts money back into the local economy! It was really nice to have a private transport to and from the falls instead of a huge bus. We were able to leave when we wanted. Bus was spotless, with plenty of water and soft drinks. Rosario shared a lot of local information and was a great host.Written November 26, 2024
- cleopatrat3920 contributionsWaterfallsWe had a spectacular time! Mara and Neuri were amazing guides. They were on time, very professional and knowledgeable. We were even assigned our own video/photographer! So you really don’t need to worry about trying to take pictures as they will capture those candid shots along the way. The lunch afterwards was much needed and delicious as well. The waterfalls were beautiful and the guides at the waterfalls made sure everyone was able to keep up and safely navigate each area. This was an exhilarating experience. A must do if you don’t mind an uphill hike and then descending into fresh, cool pools of water!Written November 12, 2024
- luisvI8318OS0 contributionsHighly recommend activity and professional companyWe are still in awe by the amazing experience we had visiting the falls and appreciating the effort that the company made to keep us safe and take care off at all time of the tour. I highly recommend this activity and Exceptcust tours!Written November 12, 2024
- Trip309338976280 contributionsFun RideDespite the rain, we had a great time! The drive up was beautiful. We enjoyed the time at a local farm where they hand wrapped cigars. We had a lot of fun.Written November 8, 2024
- laurie109090 contributionsExcellent airport transfer as always!!!This is our third time using DSRR for our airport transfer from Santiago, DR to Puerto Plata, DR and back. Both Johny was on time to pick us up at the airport and Jose to pick us up from the resort for our return flight home. Both drivers were extremely courteous and friendly. They were great drivers and we felt extremely safe at all times. We have never had a bad experience with this company. They also offer some great excursions that we have taken in the past. This time we didn’t want to do any excursions since we have actually done most all of them previously. I highly recommend DSRR. Rosario runs a tight ship and Jennifer is very helpful and responsive in responding to questions. This is the only company we use when we come to the DR. You will not be disappointed if you book with them.Written October 6, 2024
- Yoguimoroz0 contributionsWe recomend this!!Very nice experience, the guides were profesional, fun and charming!!!! The views were wondeful, you do have to be careful with the dominican minutes, and should wear comfortable, and adequate shoes and clothes. 10/10Written September 25, 2024
- OnAir383438270440 contributionsBest experience everThe service was incredible. He went above and beyond the excursion itself He took us to a beautiful amber museum And to a chocolate factory where we drink coffee and tasted different chocolates. This was absolutely amazing and would recommend to everyone. The horses were also a beautiful experience. I have nothing bad to say.Written August 24, 2024
- 762kathryna0 contributionsHighly recommendedWow ! What an amazing experience. Directions to the collection point in the main road were spot on . Taken in an air conditioned van with WiFi ( kids pleaser) to the waterfalls. Looked after throughout, felt safe , great fun. Lovely lunch at the waterfalls ( provided and part of the cost) . Really enjoyed visiting a local community store . Bought coffee which was half the cost of the same product at the port duty free store . Bought all photos and videos of the trip as very very reasonable.Written August 19, 2024
- 747maec0 contributionsPoor Customer ServiceTerrible service. Reached out via WhatsApp to inquire about a group rate and the possibility of creating a quote/package if we were to contract them for multiple Private Transportation events. The agent I spoke with (possibly the owner Rosario?) was not direct with the necessary information needed for a quote, and instead was rude/snippy/disrespectful, and did not have a helping demeanor. Great Customer Service is everything when it comes to running a successful business. I would highly recommend you take your business elsewhere. Plenty of other options in the DR that will give you a better rate and higher quality of service.Written August 18, 2024
- janycej20240 contributionsFun In The SunThe views and actual ride was amazing! Our guide did an excellent job of helping with the horses and I felt completely safe. The only complaints I have is that the actual bus that picked us up was hard to find and that both employees who picked us up didn’t speak English which further made the pickup more stressful. All they could say was basically “get in the van” which made my sister feel like we were being kidnapped. Also, when we stopped at the beach for a break, we were bombarded by people asking us to purchase various items, so be mindful of that. I was thankful that we didn’t have any cash. Overall though the experience was pretty great and I would book again.Written July 16, 2024
- staceylT8607JO0 contributionsgreat experiencei went on this excursion off of my cruise with my two daughters (16 & 18..i am 54). we all had the best time! the tour operators and guides were amazing. customer service excellent. the hike itself and the waterfall slides and jumping were a little more hard core than i had expected, but that’s probably bc i’m terrible at researching. but i did it and im so glad for the experience. a few notes if you are considering this: make SURE you have really good/stable water shoes. i bought ours from amazon and they definitely did not offer enough support and stability…you will be walking over and balancing on rocks almost the entire time. also, i thought the excursion was 4 hours but we were gone closer to 6. we still got back to our ship on time. and last it’s quite a walk from the port to the meet up point so make sure leave plenty of time. all in all i would highly recommendWritten June 27, 2024
- malarieb20240 contributionsSO MUCH FUN!!This is a must do experience! The waterfalls and rocks are beautiful. The jumps and slides are exhilarating. I was nervous about the last jump, as it is 18 feet high but I did it and got out and done it again. It was me, my husband, and our 2 teen boys. They are still talking about this excursion and this is an experience we will all always remember. The hike up the mountain is strenuous but do able, DSRR tour group was very understanding and would let you stop and take any needed breaks. The night before the tour, I received a text message from DSRR with all the same information as the email, explaining where we needed to go to meet them. It is a good 15 min walk once you leave the ship, you will go out of Amber Cove cruise port, through the gate, across the entrance road and walk down the side of the road on a sidewalk where you will see vans and tour groups holding signs. There are plenty of tour group employees along the way to help guide you. We lucked out and had a private tour with just our family that day. We met Elizabeth (which is the owners daughter) at the bus, she introduced us to Jonathon, our private photographer, which took some amazing photos, buy the photos you will not regret. I am the mom who is always taking pictures and not always in the pictures but this time I was in them all, and videos! Elizabeth was very sweet and talked to us the whole ride to the waterfalls, answering all our questions about their cultures and lives. The van also has free Wifi and A/C. Once we arrived at the waterfalls we was introduced to our tour guide which was so much fun! He made us laugh so much during the tour. Once we completed the waterfalls, Elizabeth and Lilo (driver) was waiting for us to eat lunch off the buffet, and provided sodas for our whole family. We truly enjoyed not only the waterfalls but also DSRR tour group and highly recommend both. And so much cheaper than booking through your cruise line. One of the first questions DSRR asked was what time we wanted to be back at the port because they want to make sure you have time at Amber Cove and don't have to stress about missing your ship.Written June 25, 2024
- K7876QLchrisb0 contributionsGreat experienceHad a great time. The guides were very knowledgeable and entertaining. The hike wasn’t too bad up the hill but those who were less athletic found it challenging. Was totally worth the effort once you reached the falls and refreshing cool water. The food afterwards was tasty. We bought the pictures taken from the guides and it was emailed as promised in about 3-4 days.Written June 16, 2024
- abcole280 contributionsFun time going with flowThe walk from the port to our pickup spot was long and hot and a little confusing but we finally made it after lots of offered help from other street vendors. There was a little confusion on the meeting time as well, but it all worked out fine. Unfortunately due to the amount of rain the region received our group was unable to get to the waterfalls and ziplines due to the national park being closed but the Exceptcust crew made up for it. I wish I could remember our main tour guide's name, beautiful young lady with Rosario as our driver and Monkey as our photographer. Super crew that we had a great time with! They showed us the local area allowing us to sample authentic DR food and rum and a look into the culture of DR. The beach was beautiful. Next time we are in the DR, we will absolutely reach out to the crew at Exceptcust!Written June 16, 2024

We opted to do this tour in lieu of the pricier one offered by our cruise line, but we soon regretted it. We were picked up at 10:30 and returned at 4:20 — that’s 6 hours, way longer than the marketed 3.5 hours, and the waterfalls accounted for only 45 minutes of that. We started with a long hot bus ride with a non-stop history lesson that wasn’t very engaging, paired with rum shots, and then arrived to the waterfall complex. They supplied water shoes to those who didn’t bring any, and then we got suited with life jackets and helmets. Our group of 10 merged with many other groups at this point, so while it wasn’t private, it was at least social.
The mostly shaded hike to the falls took about 75 minutes, but it would have only taken ~25 had we not stopped every 15 minutes to give those running out of breath a chance to rest, or paused for traffic and influencer content. To be clear, this is not a difficult hike if you’re remotely athletic.
On the day we visited, despite hot weather, the water and shaded falls were freezing and many of us were shivering by the end, so you might consider wearing something in addition to a suit. One person hurt their ankle, and another person hit their hip, but I still consider it fairly safe if you’re following directions. You have the option to jump or slide down several of the falls, though there are a few ladders available as an alternative. Those with a fear of heights may not like this experience.
Despite our lesson on the many rich foods of the Dominican Republic, our tragic lunch consisted of spaghetti in tomato sauce, fried chicken, pork, white rice, beans, bread and a basic salad. Those who booked the cruise tour bragged of more elaborate buffets featuring mofongo and fruits. After lunch, the operators spent a lot of time putting on a small show, which included a surprise raffle, singing and a gratuitous appeal about the challenges of competing against the cruise ship behemoth. We started getting frustrated with timing and asked if we could depart ASAP.
Instead, we made another stop for nearly an hour at what was essentially a convenience store with a backyard of various plants. They used this opportunity to sell us everything from cigars and paintings to souvenirs, and we grew very frustrated that the tour was running so late. We did, however, take their offer to purchase photos and videos, most of which are blurry or ruined by flash.

This excursion was far better than any I had ever been on and I have been on over a dozen. There was a short walk outside of the Amber Cove Port and onto the main highway in a bus/taxi pickup area. The provided map and signage gets you where you need to be though. Rosario, the owner/driver provided wristbands that got access to all of the below things mentioned in this review completely complementary including beverages in the cooler as well as Wi-Fi to connect to. This was helpful, as we did not pay for the onboard Wi-Fi through our cruise, so we were able to catch up with family and back home. When we got to the Waterfall base sight, Rosario had us keep our belongings in his van (so we didn’t have to pay for lockers) which we watched and he was able to provide complementary water shoes if needed. We then met with our guide and off to the waterfalls. There were only 7 open at the time we went, but still had a great time. The highest jump was around 21ft, but if you are paying for the excursion I highly recommend doing it! You also have the option to climb down. Once we finished the waterfall tour, we had a bigger Dominican style lunch, which exceeded my wife’s and my expectations and I went back for seconds. While eating all of the people who booked through the cruise lines walked by us wondering how we got the lunch, as the ship sponsored excursions did not come with any special accommodations besides a ride to and from the waterfall. We had a decent amount of time to clean up, eat and relax and then headed to a small Coffee/Chocolate plantation. My wife and I got to grind the beans and cacao nibs to create both and got to try the freshly made coffee and hot chocolate. We enjoyed it so much we actually bought a separate jar of cocoa to take back home with us. That was completely optional, however, and Rosario’s wristband got us free tastings and tours of the plantation as well.
If anyone is looking for an excursion from a cruise or is just in the area and wants to get a real taste for the culture and beauty of Puerto Plata, I would recommend Rosario every time!!

Overall, I would highly recommend this tour company for anyone looking for a great adventure in the Dominican Republic. The pickup location was exactly as they said it would be and the guide provided us with a wealth of information about the history of the country, which was a great way to start the trip.
The group size was small, which made the experience more intimate and enjoyable. The main attraction of the trip, the Damajagua The 7 waterfalls excursion, was incredible. The tour guides were knowledgeable and ensured everyone's safety throughout the excursion. The waterfalls were stunning and the experience of sliding and jumping into the natural pools was exhilarating.
After the falls, we were taken to a local restaurant for lunch, which was a great way to experience the local cuisine. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and welcoming.
The tour also included a stop at a local farm to taste fresh chocolate and rum. This was a nice addition to the trip and gave us a chance to experience more of the local culture.
Throughout the trip, our travel coordinator Jennifer was fantastic. She was organized, responsive and ensured that everything went smoothly. Our guide Rosario was also great, providing us with interesting information about the area and making sure that everyone had a good time.
Overall, I would highly recommend Exceptcust Tours - D.S.R.R Bus Rental Tours to anyone looking for an adventure in the Dominican Republic. The experience was well-organized, informative and a lot of fun.

Booking this excursion through a local company was the best decision. We were in a group of just our family, and they took such good care of us. The day was perfect from beginning to end. The shuttle was fun with the seats facing inward like a limo bus. Our tour guide Nelson was so knowledgable and welcoming and shared some local history, run tastings, and gifts to take home. The photographer they brought along was also amazing. He sent us a link with a personalized video he put together from the footage he took from our trip, and even added music. He immediately loaded all of the photos onto my phone so I had every picture. I 100% recommend booking this excursion through DSRR, it felt like a private tour and I was glad we weren't in one of the large tour buses with 30+ people

Rosario, Nester and the D.S.R.R gang are wonderful. They made us feel a part of their family. They picked us up outside of the cruise port. The problem was it was quite a hike since they are not allowed in the port area, and they were a little hard to find in the crowd of people outside. We found them and hopped inside a comfortable air conditioned van to the our destination. The hike was moderate but fun, and jumping and sliding into the falls was amazing after you get past a little fear :) Afterwards we had a local lunch at a cute little restaurant. We sat outside and was greeted by the nicest cat. Afterwards we went to a local store that showed us how they make cigars and we tasted chocolate. Since I don't smoke cigars I purchase chocolate and some larimar jewelry. The tour company have their own videographer/photographer. For a reasonable fee he sent us a ton of pictures and a nicely put together video of the experience. I loved our tour guides and the amazing experience. I would definitely select them again!

From the minute I booked our excursion, Jennifer was in touch providing all the info we would need (including map of where to meet up and signage of their company to look for) She also answered my ? about photography. (DEFINITELY book the photographer, it was $50 to get over 125 pics and videos of our family of 5 on a usb stick. Definitely better pics and videos than we would have taken in waterproof pouch and we could just enjoy ourselves. Our photographer Oliver took wonderful individual and group family pics as well as scenery). Rosario provided cold drinks on the approx 25 min ride to the waterfalls and we felt well taken care of getting our vests and helmets. Our guides Francis and Charlie were fantastic. Be sure to tip these your guides! I was shocked and saddened to see people just passing them by without tipping them. After the fun water slides and jumps Rosario met us afterward and we enjoyed lunch and dessert at the site (we noticed people who booked this tour on the cruiseship went straight back to Amber Cove on a big bus) We were offered cold water soda juice Presidente and Corona beer. There is also free WiFi on the cool air conditioned van and Bluetooth speaker to play your own music. Book this tour with Rosario and Jennifer! It was the highlight of our cruise and we’re so glad we booked with them instead of the cruise line. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Loved LOVED this excursion! Will definitely do this again through this company. The tour bus had wifi, but I honestly spent most of the ride listening to our guide talk about the local culture and sites along the way. This was definitely an adventure! The waterfalls are a bit of a hike, definitely wouldn’t recommend for those that are out of shape, but my 9 year old was able to participate with no issues. The waterfalls and slides are beautiful and not to be missed. The lunch afterwards was delicious. It was at a local restaurant and the food was amazing! Drinks were provided for those that wanted to try some local rum. We then went to a fruit and tobacco plantation where we were treated to a tour and a demonstration of cigar making. The store there was great for locally made souvenirs, spirits, and cigars. (If you enjoy a sweeter drink, make sure to try out the sweet wine, it was delicious). The company took photos that were available for purchase for a very reasonable price at the end and were emailed to use very quickly. We got them back before our cruise ended. Definitely book this excursion if you have a stop in Puerta Plata!

Absolutely stellar experience! We booked with Rosario & Jennifer's Exceptcust in June and loved it so much we brought parents back with us in August. It looks like you could book these trips through all different companies but no one will treat you better - or make sure you're treated well everywhere you go - the way Rosario does. Refreshments in a plush (waterproof seats) bus, wifi for you and control over the Bluetooth for personal entertainment, and making sure everything is smooth wherever they take you. On top of the experience of the tour, Jennifer was ridiculously helpful and responsive with any questions and issues (our cruise port times changed repeatedly and she worked with us to make sure we could do as much as possible from our original plan). I really can't recommend this company highly enough!

We had a great time on this excursion. I’m so happy I booked with this local company instead of through the cruise ship. Even though you have to get picked up outside the main gates and to the left, it was easy to find and a ten minute walk total. Once at the waterfall site, the hike definitely pushes you so be prepared, but it’s all worth it once you get to the top! The water was warm and the options to jump instead of slide made it even better. The photo package was cheap and well worth it with this company. After the falls we took a short drive to a small authentic restaurant which added to being able to experience some of the area. The plantation was a nice extra, seeing and tasting the fruits and cocoa. We got back to the port with a few hours left and still did some shopping. I would recommend this excursion to anyone who loves the outdoors and wants to immerse yourselves in the culture of the country with limited time. The staff were all great!

Excellent choice for an excursion in Dominican Republic. This is a family run business with 40+years of experience. They will make sure you are satisfied. They pick you up from the port in a cold air conditioned van. They drive you up the mountain to the Damajagua area and make sure you get all your gear. They guide you up to waterfalls and take pictures and video along the way. After the exciting jumps/slides into the refreshing waters, they drive you to a local restaurant where you are fed until satisfied with delicious and organic authentic food. Once fed you are taken to a local tobacco and chocolate making business where you are taught the process and given free samples, including rum and Mamajuana. Mmmmm delicious. After perusing their gift shop you are gathered back into the van and driven back to port just in time to get back on the boat. This was one of our best experiences yet. We highly recommend this company and this excursion. Thank you Rosario and Nelson Mandela for the good times and the laughs.

Anyone???… I need to know the distance we would be hiking, such as how many football fields or miles? I’ve done many adventures and zip-lining, but distance isn’t my strong suit, I need to know just the distance on the up-hill hike? Thank you.

We are estimating the uphill portion is maybe 2 miles up. We did stop frequently and they wait for everyone to get up there. You are walking up a dirt/wood staircase system so it is not straight up a mountain. The walk on the way back is easier, but still a walk. I don't believe there are any hills on the way back! It was fun!
