Fun Day in Curacao
Nov 2019
With the pandemic, I finally have time to write reviews on our trip last fall.

We contacted Gaby last September and asked for her to help craft a private tour for our 2 couples when our cruise called on Curacao in November. Truthfully it was a mixed bag with communication, as we had done a bit of research on our own and asked her to put a tour together mixing our wish list along with things she thought we should incorporate. She was a little "testy," with us in the emails back and forth, which ended up creating a tour that had unnecessary tension. But the day and tour ended up going pretty well.

She met us at the pier and we walked to her vehicle. She spent some time driving through Willemstad...we visited the distillery at Chobolobo. And then she drove us to the other side of the island and visited a beach off the beaten path, then we concluded at a beautiful bed and breakfast/eatery up on the top of a mountain overlooking a boy. Perfect ending to the tour, and a place I'd love to return to someday.

She was very accommodating and certainly knows all about her island. Her fee was $65 per person, which included bottled water.

Unique way to tour Curacao
Mar 2020
There are plenty of tours of Curacao available regardless of whether you are originating from a hotel or arrive via cruise ship. If you want something different and you want to take charge of the tour instead of let a tour company or cruise ship dictate the tour, Sand and Stilettos is it. But don't expect to not be involved in designing the tour. You have to do your homework. Stick with cruise ship tours or the many boilerplate, canned tours you can pick-up dock-side or from the hotel you're staying at if you don't want to get involved. Once you contact the company via the many platforms that you can do that from (the owner's web site, Viator, Trip Advisor, other consolidators) Gaby, the owner will promptly respond. Keep in mind, she works alone so, if she is on a tour, it may be later in the day, when she is finished touring, that she'll respond. She will respond though and this is when you have to get involved. She has some canned tours. These are probably fine but you're going to be better off by selecting her private customized tour...... you can add whatever parts of her structured tours you might like understanding there will be time constraints. You're paying for around 4 hours of her time. If you select the customized tour, Gaby will send you an email that asks about your interests. It's very thorough and if you get involved it will turn out perfectly as ours did. While Curacao is a relatively small Island the best sights outside of the capital locale take a while to get there. You want to tour efficiently and Gaby will do that. She is the epitome of it. So, yeah, you can go with other tour companies who have guides with less passion, less intellect and less local knowledge or you can go with who you SHOULD go with, Gaby at Sand and Stilettos.

Out of the ordinary
Sep 2019
I purchased this tour as a belated birthday gift from my friend. It was perfect as the two of us have traveled all over The Caribbean we prefer a certain level of depth to our
tours. Gabby definitely delivered. Her knowledge of the history & culture of the island
was educational as well as interesting. If you are looking for something extra this is your tour.

Go with the best! Go with Gaby!
Apr 2019 • Couples
We've traveled to many of the islands in the Caribbean and taken tours to experience what life is like on the island, but none of them can compare to the passion and service that Gaby has for her island. When she tells you that she is going to a personal tour of the island, she means it. Our experience with Gaby began long before we arrived in Curacao when she emailed us a short questionnaire so she could tailor our tour to what we wanted to experience. Gaby was polite, personable and passionate from the start and that never changed. Unfortunately, Gaby isn't able to meet you right in the port due to the less than hospitable taxi cab operators but the directions to the meeting point were easy to follow and we had no problems finding her. It is a short 5-10 minute walk from where the ship docks to Rift Fort and then a quick elevator ride up to her truck.
Gaby's truck easily fit our group of four adults and was clean. She even had a metal storage bin located in the bed of the truck for your extra bags or wet clothes. We opted not to do any snorkeling on this trip, so we headed out to the north side of the island before all the large tour buses made it out that way. As we headed to our first stop, we were treated to a knowledgeable education of how, when and why Curacao was founded as we traveled through all the little neighborhoods and villages. Our first stop was at the national park where we were provided beautiful overlooks of the rocky edges to witness Mother Nature's power and beauty. There were multiple walking trails that lead you along the waterfront and then up several stairs to an elevated overlook. While we were there, a large tour bus arrived and we were surrounded by 40-50 other guests elbowing for a view...so we met Gaby at the entrance and then headed off-road (yup, the buses definitely couldn't make it up this road) to a spot called "La Pistol". It was a crevice that had been hollowed out by the waves and as one wave flows in, the pressure pushes it upward and outward which shoots it out like a bullet from a gun. As we hopped back into the truck, we were greeted with cold bottles of water and Gaby's smiling face.
Our next stop was a small, secluded beach where the crystal clear waters held several swimming sea turtles who were hanging along the shoreline waiting for fish scraps from the local fishermen. Word about this little spot has started to spread though the island and more and more people are coming here to snorkel with the turtles. The beach area left a little to be desired, but the crystal clear water and amazing view makes it a spot to stop at for a brief visit. As we headed out of the beach area, another large bus was pulling in to drop off 50 or so guests. Gaby timed this stop perfectly! Our next stop was to one of the most photographed beaches in all of Curacao. When you think of a tropical paradise, this beach is what you are thinking of.
We headed along the west coast of Curacao to see some of the more secluded sights and made our way to our lunch stop. Now Gaby told us that the restaurant overlooked a small beach, had a good view of the water and the food was tasty as well, but she sold us short on that description. The beach was soft, supple sand that met the bluest of blue waters you could ever imagine and the view was simply stunning. The food was fresh, fabulous and delicious. We tried several typical Dutch dishes that Gaby recommended and were certainly not disappointed. With our bellies full again, we headed off to the downtown area to see the Curacao shown in the tour and history books. We saw too many sights and locations to list here, but rest assured that you won't miss anything. We saw the floating market, the floating foot bridge, the UNESCO historical area and many other sites.
Now, when we say that Gaby gives you a personalized tour, let me tell you how personalized it is. When we were on our cruise ship, we saw a documentary on the oldest synagogue in the Western Hemisphere that was located in Curacao. While we were docked in Aruba the day before our stop in Curacao, we sent Gaby an email asking if we can include this in our tour of the island. As soon as we met Gaby, she told us she had gotten our email and would gladly add the synagogue to the tour. We even asked for a quick stop at a local supermarket to buy some delicious Dutch cheeses which Gaby was all to happy to provide. Gaby is well educated, well traveled, knowledgeable and has a true passion to introduce visitors to her island.
So, if you are wanting to experience the true Curacao and avoid the typical tourist crowds and you want an experience that you won't forget from a simply amazing guide...Go With Gaby!

Great Private Island Tour!
Mar 2019 • Couples
My wife and I booked a private tour with Sand and Stilettos in advance of our cruise trip. Gaby made it easy to arrange a tour customized to our preferences. On March 7, 2019 we arrived at the designated meeting point by the cruise port. To our delight, Gaby was there, on time and awaiting our arrival!
Gaby took us to all the places we wanted to see, all the while telling us about her beautiful Island. She made sure to time our stops ahead of all the tour buses so we could enjoy the sites. For lunch she took us to Karakter restaurant which had incredible food.
A private tour with Gaby is positively the best way to see Curacao!

Great Day with Gaby!
Jan 2019 • Couples
We gave Gaby ideas of things that we would like to see and then she customized our trip from there. She was very knowledgeable about the island, which we enjoyed. She led us when we needed direction and she let us go on our own when we needed some time to look on our own. A great day - would highly recommend!

Excellent Day Tour of Curacao
Feb 2019 • Couples
Gaby was a super tour guide and we are so glad we booked with her. We met her as planned which was an easy 5 minute walk off the ship, and then we were off on a 4 hour trip covering much of the island on Curacao including outstanding beaches and a drive through Willemstad with lots of beautiful buildings and local history. Her knowledge of the island’s history and easygoing personality made for a nice learning experience and great conversation along the way. We would highly suggest this tour.

Personalized tour of a beautiful island
Jan 2019 • Couples
We enjoyed several hours with Gaby. She showed us some of her favorite places to hang out, her favorite beach, her favorite valley and a list of places that I requested. She was waiting for us where she said she would be. She is friendly and answered all of our questions. She knows her way around the island and she's able to taker her customers to the spots when the buses aren't there. I would recommend this tour.

A local's view of the island
Dec 2018 • Couples
We met Gaby near the cruise ship docks. Her directions and timings were exact. She even included a picture of her so we knew it was her immediately.
We boarded her comfortable, clean and modern vehicle and headed out. The entire day was directed by the two of us. No waiting for others to catch up! We let her guide us to an extent once we told her what types of things we wanted to see.
We visited public and private and "almost-undiscovered" beaches, we stopped to see a lovely museum/shop of the works of Nena Sanchez (worth Googling), we saw plantations, flamingos...and finished with a driving tour around the colourfully gorgeous city of Willemstad.
Gaby was a perfect host! She is friendly, intelligent, vibrant and we had wonderful conversations about...well, everything, that day.
If you are looking for a private tour where you can spend time on what you want, led by a smart local - this is your trip!!
