About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- nicksC8756WU0 contributionsShore diving paradiseGreat shore diving locations near the shop. Did a 2-tank package w JP the divemaster. Very knowledgeable and a funny guy to boot! Overall a fantastic experience w the shop that handed out nothing but positive vibes. I would return when I’m on the island again.Written March 21, 2025
- brendant4320 contributionsAdvanced Open Water certification and five extra dives. If you’re looking for a dive shop with over the moon friendly guides, then you’ve found your spot. We went on 10 dives over four days and got our Advanced Open Water certification, and we couldn’t think of a better place to do it. JP and Mats were very patient with us learning new information, knowledgeable about the spots and the island, and couldn’t have been more nice. The guard cat is also the best. Book this place and you won’t be sorry.Written March 8, 2025
- a1347430 contributionsGreat Diving Near Cruise Ship TerminalWhat a great place, we found Scubacao after our cruise ship docked and they took us last minute for a dive and snorkel off the shore near Mambo Beach. They even came and picked us up a block from the pier. The cruise line had not excursion for diving but these great folks looked after us and made sure we were back in lots of time. Don't be afraid to give them a call if looking for a good diving spot close to the cruise ship pier at a reasonable price. We would definitely use them again. Thanks so much for making our day.Written March 4, 2025
- Sherri G0 contributionsFantastic ExcursionThis was our 4th trip snorkeling with Scubacao and not our last. The snorkeling spots were fantastic. Scubacao has always been so accommodating with our group. Having an extra guide with a floatation ring this time was great. One member of our group was able to scuba a long with the rest of us. Overall, Scubacao is a great company to work with and the staff is always friendly and informative.Written March 1, 2025
- Ruth F0 contributionsOlder DiverI can’t say enough about this company. They went the extra mile to ensure I had a safe and fun experience. Their kindness and generous day was very welcome.Written February 20, 2025
- llevin20 contributionsTwo snorkels in Willemstad with ScubacoaJuan from Scubacoa picked us up at our ship, took us back to the dive shop and then to two snorkel sites before returning us to our ship. Juan was extremely solicitous, helpful and friendly--an excellent guide. The first snorkel was a sunken tugboat with lots of marine life around it. The second location was Director's Bay with a wall starting at 30 feet and descending into the depths. Again, lots of marine life, but, sadly, lots of dead coral too. My wife and I have been scuba divers for over fifty years and have dived and snorkeled all over the world, so we've seen marvelous coral before climate change and storms have decimated so much. However, we enjoyed our snorkel, the brightly colored fish and Juan's lovely personality and successful attempt to give us an enjoyable, safe, and leisurely snorkeling experience. I can definitely recommend Scubacoa.Written February 7, 2025
- 267kellyt0 contributionsFun for families, couples, and friends-wade right in from shore and swim out to snorkelThis was our first trip to Curacao but our 5th time snorkeling. It was myself, my husband, and our 14 year old son traveling. We loved that we did not have to take a boat out to the snorkeling site but could wade in right from the shoreline. Our guide Juan took our group to 2 different sites and both sites were fantastic. One of the sites was Tugboat Beach which had a sunken tugboat and an oil rig. We were able to enjoy many forms of ocean life; for us it was definitely the best snorkeling trip we have done. Other areas we have snorkeled include Hawaii, Cancun, Bahamas. Juan made sure that everyone was fitted properly with their gear and made sure everyone felt comfortable with their time in the water. A picnic lunch was even included in our tour. We would highly recommend this excursion and our guide Juan.Written February 6, 2025
- kcal230 contributionsExcellent PADI open-water certificationWe had a fantastic experience doing our PADI 18m Open Water Qualification training over 3 days. All the staff were excellent, particularly Juan, with whom we spent the most time. Everyone was friendly, accommodating, helpful, encouraging. And patient!Written January 29, 2025
- Julian B0 contributionsA wonderful adventure under water! We had a wonderful time snorkelling with Scubacao in Curacao over the winter break. Highly recommend going to Director's Bay!Written January 27, 2025
- Mark S0 contributionsGreat dive shop, super folksAny time we're on Curaçao, we dive with Scubacao. We've stayed on the island and we've done dives with them when in port on a cruise. They pick up close to the port and are very conscious about getting us back to the ship with plenty of time to spare. There's a couple of great dive sites (Directors Bay and Tugboat) close to the shop, the pair of sites make a great two tank dive. JP and his crew are awesome.Written January 27, 2025
- Nurse2220 contributionsThe experience of a lifetime! My husband set up an appointment to go diving with this business because he's an experienced diver. Carolina was explaining the process to him, and she asked me if I was interested in a beginner's dive. I wasn't very comfortable with the idea because I'm barely learning how to swim, and being in the water still terrifies me. Seeing how patient she is, I agreed to have her explain a beginner's dive to me. She was very clear and patient with her instructions. Fortunately for me, my diving instructor was Jillian, who was absolutely amazing and incredibly patient with me. She kept checking my equipment during the dive, which gave me some much-needed peace of mind. I will be forever grateful that Jillian allowed me to have such an amazing experience. We also had the option of hiring a photographer to take pictures of this incredible experience and Natasha was also very nice. Absolutely worth it! I highly recommend this business, whether you are an experienced diver or just trying to experience something you never thought possible. Thank you, Carolina! Thank you, Jillian!Written January 26, 2025
- Christoph H0 contributionsGreat snorkelling tour with very cool guysThe guys in the diving shop are all really cool and friendly. Max picked me up near the cruise port with the car and then we had a VERY cool snorkel trip to 2 spots (directors bay and wreck of "Tugboat") with Maurice, where we saw a moray eel, squid and also turtles in their natural habitat (and of course a lot of fish). Also it was no problem that we were just 3 persons for the snorkelling trip. Also we got a lot of information to the marine life. The guys also made a picknick lunch and we had a great time. I will definitely come back next time when I am on the island.Written December 27, 2024
- Felix P0 contributionsSix stars from five.Already been here the 5th time, from my trial dive with Carolina in 2022 to becoming an advanced open diver with Jillian this time. So I recommend them for fun-dives aswell as for education. Everybody is SO nice and professional. The know exactly what they do, everythin gives a nice and secure feeling. You can have a chilled dive at their housereef, dive down to some wrecks or go hunting for Lionfish with Mats. You’re aswell told about many things you want to know - species in the ocean, places to dive at but also about the history of the island or where to have dinner. My 5th time won’t be my last for sure. ♥️Written December 4, 2024
- anniecote19860 contributionsSNORKELING IN CURACAOCuracao is simply the best snorkeling out there. Scubacao Adventures was very flexible with our time frame. They picked us up outside of the pier and we drove to Tug Boat Beach and Directors Bay - both amazing spots where the coral reef is pristine and the beautiful fish are plentiful. Jillian our guide was awesome. I highly recommend this company. We Loved Curacao so much we actually want to go back to an all inclusive so we have more time.Written November 18, 2024
- bv45550 contributionsGreat one-tank dive with ScubacaoJP, the owner of Scubacao, picked us up at the port and drove us to his shop for gear fittings We then drove to the shore dive site where we reviewed communication, suited up, and waded offshore and began our dive. We saw beautiful corals and fish including large grouper and a huge pufferfish. One of the highlights of the dive was swimming over the coral regeneration fields and learning about this important process. It was devastating to see all the white corals (they may potentially recover) and even worse the white corals covered in algae which will not recover from the coral bleaching. We felt very safe and found JP to be experienced as this was his 4002nd dive. He also pointed us to the Lionfish Cafe which is owned by his friend The lion fish was outstanding, and we loved supporting this local business. Great dive experience - highly recommend!Written November 16, 2024

I rarely write reviews, but Scubacao is incredible and merits the time and appreciation of an exceptional review. Starting with the basics: they are extremely knowledgeable and talented divers. We went on four different types of dives (beach, night, and two-tank boat dive). Things were always seamless because each dive master was very experienced (eg during the beach dive, there was a sudden change of weather. Our dive masters Carolina and Cecilia kicked into gear, calmly and skillfully, so we never had to worry and it was just another fun story). They were always well prepared (eg on the night dive, we wanted to try a particular type of fluorescent night dive. Carolina (who owns Scubacao with her husband JP) was completely supportive, but also brought alternative equipment because she suspected we weren't going to love it. Sure enough, we switched underwater to a traditional night dive after the first 1/3 of the of the dive). Their knowledge and dedication to customer service began at the outset. I began working with Carolina when I was sourcing a dive shop before our trip. Through numerous emails and phone calls, Carolina was always patient and helped me understand the pros and cons of many different dive locations (as we were trying to whittle down the options), come up with a schedule that worked for the rest of our vacation, and then work on pricing. What I learned early was that everything they did was with joy and a smile, and nothing was an inconvenience. Even our significant dietary restrictions was never a bother. And they also always helped us with gear without any hesitation (and on numerous occasions!). Even filling out our dive logs after each dive was an enthusiastic event, no matter how long a day they had already had. Then, beyond diving, they were always happy to share recommendations of things to do/see/eat for a local's perspective. It made our trip even more special. We highly recommend Scubacao, and hopefully you will get to dive with Carolina, Celia and/or JP too!

This was a really fun, chill, dive shop! They were very flexible, picked us up at the hotel and brought us to a different dive site for each of our tank dives. They listened to what we wanted and geared the dives to suit our interests and experience level. As a fairly new diver, feeling safe and relaxed was important. We have loads of beautiful pictures because they kept pointing out where the cool critters lived. When we come back we will definitely dive with scubacao.

Our first time diving in Curaçao and the Scubaco team made it awesome! It also happened to be my wife’s first open water dive after getting her certification and our guide, Mats made the whole day absolutely incredible. From the getting the gear set up, to the trip out to the boat, the dives themselves and our return, what a day. Mats went above and beyond to make it memorable, he even stopped on the way home to buy us coco friu (fresh, cold coconuts to drink)! We booked the dives via email several months out and the team did a great job communicating with us right up u til we arrived. They even picked us up at our hotel! This is truly personalized service and I can t say enough good things about this shop! If you want to dive in Curaçao, then these guys are your go to shop!

I am a Padi-certified open water diver, with more than 80 dives in my life.
This is my first time diving from the shore. I always did it on board.
Being an older person the effort is very hard.
To begin with, each diver must assemble his equipment, that is, prepare the entire system of vest and compressor tubes. This takes a lot of time.
In addition, you must carry all the equipment with tank included for a distance of approximately 50 m to enter the water. Only there are the fins placed.
The first descent was next to a dock and we reached 18 m deep where there was a sunken boat.
Very good marine fauna.
Great visibility.
The instructor, Quincy, was excellent, he helped me at all times.
Afterwards we went to Jan Thiel beach to do the 2nd descent, repeating everything from the 1st.
Once in the water you had to swim about 100 m to the drop-off point.
At first with the current in favor everything was fine, but then we had to return and the current against us made everything difficult.
When we ascended we were in the sea with strong waves almost 200 m from the coast and we had to swim back.
Another great effort for everyone.
Nothing remarkable was seen on this dive.
We disassembled the equipment and returned to the diving center.
The price of US 135.- seems excessive to me because it does not imply any fuel consumption

We booked a 2 tank dive with Scubacao during our cruise to the ABC islands and we really enjoyed our dives with them. We would both come back together or separately to dive with them (and Carolina) again. She picked us up from the port and took us to the shop where we rented the rest of our gear (we only brought some of it on the long trip). Carolina picked two really good spots to dive and assisted us with the equipment and gave a really good briefing for each location. We saw lion fish, a flying gurnard, turtles, seahorse, small eel, large tarpon, many trumpet fish, angel & parrot fish, and abundant and varied coral formations. It was really good diving and I would highly recommend diving with Carolina. She was excellent!!!

Being a newly certified OW diver, my husband and I thought a cruise to the ABC Islands would be a great way for to gain more experience. After doing some research, I decided to book the two tank shore dive with Scubacao.
Mats picked us up at a Starbucks near the cruise port and drove us to the shop. After, some paperwork and gear fitting we were off! I must admit that after diving in Bonaire the day before, I was pretty underwhelmed with scuba diving. Our first dive was at Marie Pompoen (I hope I got the name right). It was such an easy and smooth entry into the water, perfect for beginners. The dive was perfect for me! It was so relaxing and enjoyable. It totally changed my opinion of diving and I couldn't wait to go out on the second one. The second dive, I belive it was at something Simon. I can't remember the first word, lol. It was also an easy entry, but the dive was a bit more challenging, which was perfect for me. Because I still felt very safe and comfortable I was able to calmly face the minor challenges like swimming against the current, some mask issues, and work on my buoyancy.
I have to give a huge amount of credit to Mats! We immediately felt comfortable with him, like he was an old friend. He did a great job of leading the dives and checking on us often. He pointed out cool things when he saw them like a seahorse! He had a great sense of humor and made the whole day super enjoyable. Oh, and he recommended a great restaurant in town called Lionfish Carribean. We took his recommendation and it was delicious. The whole experience made me really start to fall in love with diving.
We will definitely be back to Curacao and will definitely dive again with Scubacao! If you are lucky enough to visit this shop, be sure to give some scratchies to the orange tank that is Gato Gordo :)

First dive in about 10 years . I went with my sister in law (also about 10 years since last dive ) and we did the refresher course , It was perfect !!! "Mamma" was great so patient and made us feel so comfortable . Dives were amazing . Would recommend Scubacao 100% We arrived on a cruise ship and Chris picked us up on time and gave us a little history of the island on our way to the shop. Very relaxing fun experience . Side note I screwed up the dates and Chris was able to accommodate us which was huge considering we had a limited window to dive. Thank you Thank you Thank you

My girlfriend and I originally planned to spend a few days in the East side of the Island before moving lodgings to dive Watamula and some of the West side dive sites. We signed up with Scubacao to start the trip and left it open in case we wanted to switch dive shops. Our dive master and guide JP, his wife, Carolina, and crew made us so comfortable that we ended up diving with them for the whole week.
We started our week by telling JP what sites we intended on hitting. He created a weekly itinerary to accommodate all of our requests. We told him where we wanted to go and he made it happen. Flexible scheduling and rides from our Air BNB, made Scubacao an outstanding choice. It was amazing to dive in a small group with a knowledgeable and professional guide. We did 6 shore dives and 4 boat dives.
We started at Double Reef and Tugboat on the first day. Although conditions weren't perfect at Double Reef, it was nice to get our feet wet and get reacquainted with diving. (It had been a year since our last time diving in D.R.) We saw a dozen or so green turtles sleeping among the healthy reef. Next, we went to Tugboat for an awesome dive with upside-down fish, a shade of blue that I've never seen before in my life, a shipwreck, triggerfish, and a school of about 9 squid.
By the end of the trip, we had explored Double Reef, Tugboat, Smokies, Katie's Paradise, Porto Marie x 2, Playa Piskadoo, Playa Kalki, Watamula, & The Mushroom Forest (Ft. The Blue Room).
JP gave us guided tours below and above the surface. While driving to the shore entrance to dive sites, he informed us of the history of the island and the Venezuelan oil refinery, the Shell Corporation's road to Tugboat, and other general local tips as to where to eat or buy groceries.
With another lockdown looming in NYC & US, we were very tempted to stay for a few extra months. We are very appreciative of our guides - and new friends- and we can't wait to go back and visit Scubacao again.

We were on a cruise that stopped in Curaçao so we booked a two tank shore dive with Scubaçao. Mats picked us up at the Starbucks near the cruise terminal on time and was very pleasant and accommodating of all our needs. He was also our Dive Master- He lined up two very different dives and didn’t rush through either of them, giving us plenty of time to take in all of the beautiful coral and fish. Whenever we come back to Curaçao, we will always book our dives through Scubaçao.

I have been diving for over 25 years. This was our first visit to Curacao. My brother and his wife who are divers as well tagged along for the trip. I had originally posted a question about dive shops in Curacao in the Curacao visitors forum. I had a pleasant response by Carolina (Caro) within minutes. After doing some research, I realized their dive shop wasnt at a specific location/dive site as are most of the dive shops on the island so I saw flexibility with their shop as far as being able to travel as they were centrally located. We stopped by our first day and JP one of the owners greeted us with a huge smile. Caro came in shortly after and it was as if i had known then for 20 years. We picked up the gear we needed (they have absolutely everything) and headed out for our first two shore dives that were recommended by JP and Caro. We were not disappointed. We had some absolutely amazing dives with Scubacao the 10 days we were there. My hobby is underwater photography and the different types of sea life we encountered with Caro is what you see on National Geographic documentaries. It was absolutely surreal. My youngest son who is 13 and autistic has been wanting to "snuba" as he calls it for a couple of years. On two different occasions, Caro took the time to take my son alone and allow him to breath off of her octopus (extra regulator) and took him around a couple of different dive sites. As a father, to see the compassion and caring that Caro showed was everything. She was patient, kind and took the time to let my son experience what it was like to dive. I have never in 25 years of diving and several thousand dives had an experience as I have had with Scubacao. They are a first class operation with owners who genuinely care about their clients. Our experience with their entire team (Caro, JP and Mats) was memorable enough we are booking our second trip back in December because it was THAT memorable. I can be very critical of businesses as I am a business owners but I can tell you without question, this is the dive shop/business you want to use in Curacao. They treat you like family, not a number walking through the door and were VERY communicative in every aspect. Caro and JP, on behalf of my entire family I want to thank you for everything and the memories you helped create. Words cannot express the gratitude that we feel towards Scubacao.
If you are a diver... and you are going to Scubacao, you owe it to yourself (and family if they are diving with you) to work with the Scubacao team. You will not be disappointed.
