A beautiful day on Bowman Bay
Fantastic experience! The waters were calm, and our guide, Margaret, was so helpful. Even if you're a complete novice kayaker, you will feel comfortable. This was our second tour, and we'll be back for more.

      Great trip
Gabe, our guide was terrific in his enthusiasm, experience, safety cautions and environmental education. We are in our 70’sandhe adjusted the trip accordingly. Even if you are experienced as a ocean kayaker, the currents and other boating operations need an experienced guide.

      Excellent adventure
The entire tour was amazing. We saw some wildlife and was given fantastic information about the surrounding area. Our guide was informative and took time to answer any and all questions. We paused at specific points of interest with detailed descriptions. He made sure that he spent time with everyone in the group.

      Trip of a lifetime
Paddling through the San Juan Islands was on my bucket list. My friends and I chose a San Juan Island to Anacortes, 5-Days, One Way, Fully Catered trip. Everything from the setting to the guides, the equipment and the food was excellent. Truly an unforgettable experience!

Relaxing Bowman Bay guided kayak tour
Great experience with a fantastic guide (Shalem) . Highly recommended! That said, two suggestions to the crew: don't charge $45 for a 4 year old, get the gear on faster for more time in the water.

      Great Job!
The 3 hour bioluminescence kayak tour at Bowman Bay was terrific! Our guides did a super job getting us geared-up, getting us into/out-of the water safely, and telling us about the area and the local legend of the Maiden of Deception Pass. And, the bioluminescence in the water as the night got darker was truly amazing! We locals and our out of town visitors truly enjoyed this tour. This was our 2nd tour with AKT - another Great Job!

      1st time ever kayaking
This was a perfect adventure for a first timer. Though I wish it could've lasted longer. So much to see and take in. As well as learn how to paddle effectively.

      Beautiful Day on the Water
If you're a beginner on the water considering a kayak company, Anacortes Kayak Tours felt organized, safe and professional. Did a lovely little kayak day-trip from Anacortes with our guide, Shelem, who showed us all kinds of cool wildlife up close - from curious sea lion pups to starfish and other neat shoreline critters. Stopped midway to explore a tiny island with a historic lighthouse, and spied a big old sea lion sunbathing. Will adventure with AKT again for sure! (I'm thinking an overnight further up in the islands next time to really unplug - and if we're lucky, maybe see some orcas! ) 🌝

Another Excellent Kayak Tour trip , great guide, great company!
AKT is the best kayak touring company in the area and I wouldn't try anywhere else. Just took a short trip at Bowman Bay (Deception Pass) and it was just perfect for me and my friend visiting from Los Angeles. It was a chance to get her out on the water (who doesn't like that?) to experience this lovely area in a different way. She loved it! Ryan was a fabulous guide-I've been with several from AKT and they've all been terrific, which tells me a lot of care goes into their selection. Ryan is highly experienced, knows and explains safety protocols well. (I am a cautious person about safety, generally, and I felt 1000% comfortable around Ryan and AKT (their life jackets, kayaks etc are all in good condition, cleaner than other similar operations, etc.) He was a pleasure to be around, knew plenty about the area's wildlife, from sea creatures to birds and jellyfish and was good at showing us things and explaining them. The short 1.5 hour tour was perfect for what we needed this time (and is definitely plenty to get a taste of kayak life, perfect for younger kids, people looking for a less exerting kayak adventure, whether due to injury, age, or desire to just paddle some and chill on the water a bit here and there while looking at nature, etc.) That said, I want more! I'm determined -after several of these short trips when friends are here visiting me-to go on an overnight trip. I haven't been a camper or backpacker since my Girl Scout days very, very long ago...I'm a granny now!I love the idea of someone doing all the cooking (food is supposed to be great, they take care of it all, and ,they can accommodate most food restrictions, I am told.) In any event, this is a great thing to do when you are in the area, and Anacortes Kayak Tours is indeed the best company to choose. You really can't go wrong.

      Sunset & Bioluminescence Special
This was an amazing experience! Our guides Molly, Ben, and Alec were amazing. We started by paddling out a short distance and watching a gorgeous sunset, then paddling about halfway back to a small inlet to wait for the sky to fully darken. There were some bigger waves, so be warned if you are easily seasick, but my friend and I loved it! As the stars came out our guides told us about the science of the bioluminescence and a story from the Sammish people regarding it. When is was dark enough we started to see the bioluminescence and it was amazing! Truly an experience like no other I cannot recommend it enough! I would recommend pants and a jacket, it gets pretty cold and the kayaking was not very strenuous with relatively long periods of stillness. The night of my trip it was 68F in Anacortes at the time but felt much colder. Also check moon rise times and moon phases as they can effect the visibility of the bioluminescence.

      Fantastic private multi-day trip
We worked with the amazing folks at AKT to design a 3 day private trip for a group of 9 friends late this July from Orca’s to Sucia + Pathos islands and WOW did it exceed expectations! The planning process could not have been easier thanks to Megan’s incredible patience, expertise, and willingness to work with our group’s nuances (including a 20-wk pregnant participant, numerous dietary restrictions, and some numbers changes). She held our hands through the process, she and Emma checked in multiple times to confirm details, and truly made the challenging logistics feel simple. Our trip itself was led by the exceptionally fun, aspirationally chill/experienced/competent guide duo of Liam and Shelem who felt like friends by the end of our trip and provided the right amount of adaptation on the fly to keep our group challenged and happy. They even did a late night bioluminescence paddle, which was so magical + cool. Most importantly, they were very focused on conditions and safety, were transparent with us about their thought process, and made all of us feel remarkably comfortable and confident in an unfamiliar activity/environment. Also, food was yummy and we were all so thankful we paid extra to have them handle this for us. Portions were generous, we definitely worked up an appetite paddling! Wildlife can’t be planned but we saw numerous seals (+babies!), bald eagles, herons, porpoise, and a humpback whale! The San Juan islands are so gorgeous - rain and shine, they took our breath away. Could not recommend this team more thoroughly, would absolutely work with them again in the future.

      Great experience
We went on the Sunset/Bioluminescence kayak tour with Ben and Jake. They told us to wear shoes that can get wet, but Ben and Jake had us get in the kayak on the beach and then pulled us into the water. What service! ❤️ We loved paddling along the shore and hearing about the area and wildlife as we went. We had the perfect night with no wind so it was an easy paddle. We saw birds, seals and Jake pulled a crab out of some bull kelp to show us. Once it got dark (we chose a date when the moon was new) we began to see the bioluminescence. At first it was just a few sparkles in the water, but as it got darker, there were more and more. It was amazing. I have never seen anything like it and likely never will again. What an awesome experience. Just some other info: we chose to reschedule because of the rain and Megan was very accommodating. There is really no need to bring a phone/camera as it’s too dark to take photos and it’s really hard to get to your phone once you have the pfd and the spray-skirt on. (Unless you put it in the dry bag and attach it to the kayak. I brought a water bottle and it fit in the bungies in front of me but I wished I’d brought a carabiner just to make it more secure. I also brought gloves as I thought my hands would get cold and I put them in the dry bag they provided for me. Unless your gloves are waterproof, there is no need to bring gloves as your hands will definitely get wet. Because of the spray-skirt, only my hands and sleeves got wet and I really didn’t get that cold. We got lucky and had a small group - 8 people - but they take larger groups as well. I definitely recommend this amazing experience with this great company.

EXCELLENT experience! It was low impact and beautiful. A guide is with you every step of the way looking for wildlife and explaining the ecosystem. Margaret was amazing and loves what she does and it showed during our trip. Thanks for the experience of a lifetime!

The website says you do not need any experience and that is true. Our guide, Katie, did a great job of getting us together and explaining how to steer the kayak. She gave clear guidance about where to go and why so we were able to enjoy the views and water and not have to worry about anything. Highly recommended!!

My partner and I traveled to Anacortes recently, and we jumped on a tour with Anacortes Kayak Tours. It was a very foggy morning, but our guide, Matt, was very knowledgeable of the area, the wildlife, but most of all our safety. He took us around a few islands to see what we could find, and we saw some sea lions along the way! It was a perfect morning for a paddle, and in no way did Matt let us down! If you're even slightly considering it, book a tour with AKT!! They won't let you down!

We booked the trip about 2 hours before it was scheduled to depart (10 AM on a Tuesday, late August) and ended up with Tim as our private guide, since no one else had booked that time. The whole experience was outstanding. The 3 hour trip felt like the perfect length for us. We have kayaked before, but only casually. Tim was able to give us the perfect paddling tips quickly so that we were paddling efficiently from the start. I cannot say enough about how impressed we were with Tim's level of knowledge. From history, geology, ecology, biology. . .Tim really knows his stuff. The whole tour felt conversational but fun, like an exploration. Tim was excited to point out seals, a Stellar Sea Lion, the bulb kelp ecosystem, and sea stars. I would do the exact same trip again in a heartbeat.

Every time family or friends come to town, we go out with AKT and it’s a huge hit. The system is super efficient. Love that they are located in the marina and the kayaks are already in the water. Very beginner friendly paddles but can also be more challenging. The guides are FANTASTIC. Super knowledgeable and professional.

We met in the Skyline Marina and kayaked with our two sons- 13 & 14- and one other couple. Jacob guided us through a minus tide and strong currents, and engaged with each of us, including our sons. He took the time to learn our names, tailored the tour to our skills and abilities, and snuck in some knowledge when we weren’t looking :)
    It was a great trip!

My friend that I kayaked with had never kayaked before and was quite apprehensive before we started. But our guide, Quinn, immediately put us both at ease. We were the only ones on our trip because the weather was cloudy and drizzly but it was just fine with us Pacific Northwesterners. :-) Quinn was more than willing to help when needed but also let us kayak on our own so we could enjoy the peaceful water. We went at our own slow pace and Quinn never rushed us or acted frustrated. I am 70 years old and my friend a few years younger so you don't have to be a young person to enjoy sea kayaking!!! Just go out and do it!! It is a very relaxing, pleasurable experience!!

Our 9 year old was excitedly waiting to kayak and she was not disappointed! As a family of 4 we were put in 2 double kayaks while a family with their young son were in a tandem. Those who had kayak experience chose to go in singles. The gear was all clean and in good condition; getting it on provided some laughs amongst us novices.
The waters around Burrows Island were calm and made for beautiful paddling; crossing from the marina was not as challenging as I expected too. Our two guides made sure everyone knew what to do and kept a watchful eye on the group to ensure safe crossings. Ben and Nate were informative and chatty during the trip but equally allowed you to enjoy the peace away from the group, always keeping an eye on everyone especially as we tended to spread out. My son had trouble putting the rudder pedals in and needed help at sea (14 y/o user error). Ben kept him calm and talked him through fixing it, staying with us to catch the group back up. It seemed clear to me that Nate had planned to paddle with the currents supporting us based on the time of day and the mixed abilities of the group which provided a safe and really pleasant afternoon.

My husband and I recently had a fantastic Kayaking experience with the Anacortes Kayaking team. As a first-timer and non-swimmer, our guide, Nathan, made sure I felt safe and comfortable throughout the entire trip. They provided all the necessary equipment, including a life jacket, and gave a thorough safety briefing before we set off. The scenery was breathtaking, and the calm waters made it easy for me to get the hang of kayaking. Nathan was always nearby, ready to offer assistance or answer any questions. Overall, it was a fantastic experience that I highly recommend. The staff's professionalism and attention to safety made me feel at ease, and look forward to our next Kayaking adventure

My husband and I had a wonderful afternoon kayaking. Last year we celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary with AKT and this year we celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary with AKT. Our guide was fantastic. It was low tide and we explored the rocky coastlines around a few Islands. We saw seals, starfish, 3 different kinds of jelly fish, and sea anemones. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the sea life and we truly enjoyed our discussions.

It was a great afternoon and I am sure we will be celebrating our 32nd anniversary kayaking at AKT!
