Experience your own ‘Into the Wild’ journey on this 4-wheel off-road adventure in Denali National Park. Aboard your safari transport, head deep into the Alaskan bush to the Stampede Trail, a forgotten trail in the wilderness that Christopher McCandless took to explore the backcountry. Learn about the area’s geology and wildlife, and stop along the way to explore the open tundra. Hotel transport from select locations is included on this 3.5-hour tour.
What to Expect
Embark on a bumpy ride in the Alaskan backcountry on this 3.5-hour 4-wheel safari truck adventure in Denali National Park. After hotel pickup, head to the park entrance to meet your driver-guide.
Your destination: the Stampede Trail. This forgotten road, not shown on most maps even today, was carved out of the wilderness by the miners of the Kantishna region who sought gold. This is the very same trail that Christopher McCandless, of Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild, took to enter the wilds of Alaska.
The Stampede Road begins paved but turns into a primitive, muddy trail after just a few miles. On a clear day, you might just see Denali (formerly Mt McKinley). With the help of your guide, keep watch for caribou, moose, bears, and foxes.
Stop along the way at points of interest and to explore the open tundra. Enjoy a hearty Alaskan snack before winding your way back to civilization with memorable stories and photos to share.

Suited us!

Really enjoyed this experience through this beautiful bit of country. Loved the safari feel. We didn’t manage to see any major wildlife while on the trail but you have to appreciate that this is beyond the control of the operator - and that being said,...More

An anti climax

The people we met in their team were great. We wanted to go on the Stampede Trail so as to get close to the "Into the Wild" scenes and Chris McCandless' bus. But it proved to be a goal too far. The Volvo truck we...More

Great people, OK ride

We enjoyed our friendly drivers and the informative stories they shared. The ride itself was a bit underwhelming. I knew there’d be no guarantee of seeing wildlife or Denali, but so much of the ride was through wooded areas, that there wasn’t much scenery either....More

A different experience than a park bus

Great break from hiking. Rode the Volvo Swedish military transport for several miles. Four easy steps up into a vehicle cushioned seat.. geat for young and old.. Not much large mammals seen in denali park road the days we were there and didn't see any...More

Greetings! We are glad you found our tour enjoyable, accessible, and informative. It is unfortunate that you didn't see many animals but not uncommon - the tundra while beautiful is incapable of supporting the vast amounts of wildlife seen in other parts of the United...More
