- markmE3034WF0 contributionsFood tour through Dotonbori taking in food amongst the new and historical areaExcellent, informative tour from guide Chiyoe who even offered to take my wife who was unable to attend, on the following day. A great introduction to the wide variety of typical Japanese foods in the vibrant Dotonbori area, favourite was the Tokoyaki - 'Oishi desu'Written December 5, 2024
- D8948JFsame0 contributionsHighly recommend the Pontocho area food tourWe did the Pontocho area food tour with Hiro and absolutely loved it. This was one of my favorite experiences during our three-week trip to Japan full of many experiences. Hiro shared the history of the area and answered all my questions! We got to practice speaking a little Japanese and of course the food was amazing. Sometimes, while traveling, it can be challenging knowing which restaurants will have the best food and the shortest wait times. It was great having a guide to show us some great places to go back and eat again. It wasn't just good food... it was also great vibes.Written December 5, 2024
- P2433JSkevino0 contributionsFantastic Introduction to Japanese Food with a Great GuideThis was a fantastic introduction to Japanese food. We are complete novices on Japanese food and our guide, Trevor, introduced us to lots of lovely dishes that we would never have tried. One of us has a shellfish allergy and Trevor was so careful to keep this in mind when recommending options. Overall, this was a fantastic experience with a very knowledgeable and personable guide, Trevor. We would recommend highly.Written December 4, 2024
- C2450VJtracys0 contributionsHistory and new foods - a complete experience!Alejandra took my daughter and I on this walking tour our 2nd day in Tokyo, felt like we were getting to know Asakusa, plus info re other areas of Tokyo with a good friend. The walk was not too long for us, full of history, religion and knowledge of Japan, the Shrine in the evening was super special, the food was yummy comfort food, drinks overflowing (if you want), loved the new snacks we tried (and bought to take home) - just a fun, relaxing, easy night to begin our Japan adventure. The photos of the 2 of us were special too! Thanks Alejandra and Arigato Tours! (PS we paid $120usd each, not 230+ ea).Written December 3, 2024

We had an amazing time tasting delicious food, learning about the neighborhood and Japanese culture but also having fun, drinking and singing karaoke. His English is impeccable and his enthusiasm for food and Japan is contagious! A must do while in Tokyo.Written December 1, 2024

- 113petrar0 contributionsA great time for first timers. Our tour was great. Sebastian was engaging and informative. We went around to enough places to get a nice sampling of the area and the local food, but not so many that we were exhausted. The food choices were wonderful. We'd definitely do another tour in the future.Written November 30, 2024
- notsurewherehomeis0 contributionsIn Kytoto do the Pontocho tour, skip the Gion kaisekeWe did two "foodie" tours in Kyoto with Arigato. The Gion tour with Kaiseke was a complete bust and not value for money - give it a miss, but the Pontocho Alley tour was a winner. Our guide was Thomas and he was terrific. We experienced a wonderful variety of food and enjoyed some cultural history as well.Written November 29, 2024
- 165noahb0 contributionsHighly recommend! My parents and I really enjoyed the Tsukiji market tour with Sandra and Makki! This was one of the things I was looking forward to in my first visit to Japan, and I am glad to have done it -- not only do we get to try the sumptuous seafood (which of course was expected), we also get a primer on both the history and culture surrounding this humble little market. I guess we were also lucky to have both Sandra and Makki along as they're able to provide both a foreign and native perspective to the experience. As a result, we enjoyed Tsukiji so much that we visited the place 2 more times on our own just to make the most out of our brief stay!Written November 29, 2024
- O2865ECnicolat0 contributionsAn amazing experienceKay is a gifted tour leader. She struck up a strong rapport with us and quickly worked out our interests. She guided us around the market picking out delicious local delicacies for us to experience. The oysters were amazing. She added thoughtful touches to the tour and we learned about the Japanese language and customs as well as the cuisine culture. At the end she provided a wonderful picnic of some of the food she had picked with us and it made a lovely ending to a memorable morning. Initially we had not been sure about the tour but Kay made it one of the best things we have done on our holiday so far.Written November 28, 2024
- Golourdesduarte0 contributionsIncredible Time Experience Local CuisineHad the most incredible time on a retro food tour of Osaka with Akiko! Not only did we have some incredible bites, like okonomiyaki, udon and kushikatsu, we were able to experience local games and shops (we loved the demonstration at Tower Knives so much, we went back the following day to purchase a set)! Akiko was really informative and really showed us a part of Osaka that we would've otherwise missed. Eternally grateful for such a fun experience!Written November 28, 2024
- W2300QPshannonh0 contributionsFun family food tour in Ginza neighborhood! We had an amazing food tour with Arigato Travel last night in the Ginza neighborhood. Our guide, Kaz, was fantastic, highly recommend him! We got so many cultural insights and tips, as well as eating some delicious snacks and meals! A highlight for us was the stop at a small Okinawan restaurant, where we were treated to incredible tasty food and a cool atmosphere (and an unexpected live musical performance) that we never would have found on our own. We also really enjoyed the dessert stop for seasonal daifuku mochi that was so yummy! We really appreciated Kaz's relaxed but informative style; my kids (16 and 13) enjoyed learning from him. Would definitely recommend this tour and Kaz in particular to English speakers who want to get a sense of the food scene in Tokyo.Written November 27, 2024
- Kirby19530 contributionsA Great Food ExperienceKevin was a first class guide for our food tour. With just the three of us it was a very personal experience. We learnt about both the food but also more about the Japanese culture. We not only visited a variety of food experiences but also a few other cultural places of interest. I'll not say we enjoyed everything we ate but that was about our taste - we tried a number of foods we would not have ordered in a restaurant and some we enjoyed! One of the restaurant/bars he took us to became a 'favourite' and we revisited it on a couple of occasions to eat: we would never have found it without Kevin!Written November 27, 2024
- Joyce Anne G0 contributionsWonderful food tour experience! We had a wonderful food tour with Ray, our guide. He gave us an overview of Shinjuku area, taught us some Japanese etiquette during meals, and had an interesting walking tour aside from trying different kinds of food. It was a 3 hour lively tour and you must go with an empty stomach coz there is so much food! It was an experience exploring restaurants/bars in Golden Gai. Thank you!Written November 26, 2024

We did a Sunday morning market food tour in Osaka. The company was easy to communicate with and responsive with planning/logistics. However, we were disappointed in the tour after reading so many great reviews of the company. The guide (while very nice and knowledgeable when asked questions) told us several times that on Sundays things are hit and miss because many of the stalls are closed - so then why offer a tour on this day/time? The tour just didn't feel like it had a lot to offer - our guide was continuously looking for ways to fill time and/or having us wait around until lunch. Given the amount of time wasted and amount charged for the tour ($300+ USD) it felt very overpriced for a lackluster experience.

We joined the night food tour of Osaka as part of a three week family trip to Japan and it was one of our favourite experiences. Gabi and Sarah were fun and friendly and kept our group well fed, even when that group contained a vegetarian, two teenagers and a 10 year old. We visited lots of food stalls and restaurants that we would otherwise never have ventured into as tourists, (who don't speak Japanese), but our guides talked us through their recommendations and supplied us with a feast, as well as local stories of the neighbourhood and suggestions for things to try during our stay. We loved our food tour and highly recommend this company and especially Gabi and Sarah for their expertise. Lots of delicious food, a great way to feel like a local and well worth booking!

Absolutely wonderful tour! We had some problems finding the UCC cafe from the instructions on the paper and called the main office, they were not helpful at all, but Chie (and the wonderful man who was with her-we forgot his name and feel awful about it) were around the corner from number 5 exit (you cannot see the cafe from #5 exit at all, you have to go around the corner to the right) and they were apologetic about it, even though it was not their fault! It was an amazing tour! They explained the history of the food, took us in a market and showed us the different foods of Japan, got us some wonderful food (we had sashimi, tofu, soy milk, okonomiyaki, local hot stew/hot style(can’t remember the name but really good), Kobe beef that melted on your tongue, and some dessert! Then we strolled to the kitchen market and had a generally wonderful time looking around. They escorted us back to the meeting place as well. I highly highly recommend this tour! It’s a good introduction to the food and culture of Osaka and Japan!

Taena our guide was fantastic and friendly and so knowledgeable. The market was amazing and the food she decided on was really delicious. She was very patient as we had a total of 6 kids with us. The Kitchen Town tour was great as well, we bought many goodies from that shopping area. By the end of the tour, my 8yo son had quite the crush on Taena, and stuck to her like glue. Great people, great food, great experience.

We were led on this tour by Chie and had an amazing time! Best part was that we were the only guests on this tour! From start to finish we learned more and more about Japanese food and traditions, with great descriptions and explanations from her. She led us through the amazing Kuromon Market and knew where and when to stop. The foods we sampled were terrific and she picked only the best shops. Well worth the money! It's an early start, so don't have breakfast beforehand -- maybe just coffee -- so you're ready to enjoy the food!

We were the only guests on this tour - our guide, Taena had lived in Australia and was truly bilingual and very helpful.
The market is a great tourist experience- we tried all the local specialities like takoyali (dumplings stuffed with octopus), tuna sashimi, waguya beef and scallops and sweets filled with redden paste. All fabulous! Taena then showed us where the area with all the cooking shops was at the end of the tour so we could explore there and explained how to get back to Dotomburi.
Highly recommended.

We had a fantastic night food tour in Dotonbori with our guide Yoko. We sampled food at four different venues during the tour ... even the Takoyaki which has featured in the Michelin Guide! Yoko was a delightful and knowledgeable guide who gave us insight into the food, history and culture of the area. We had the opportunity to taste some of Osaka's best loved dishes and local brew. We would recommend this tour to other visitors to Osaka, it was a fantastic start of our trip to Japan.

We spent a fantastic morning with our guide Ayaka taking us around Kuromon market for 3 hours, this was one of the highlights of our trip. Ayaka was a fun and very knowledgeable guide providing insights on food, culture and history, she also took the time to find out what we wanted to sample, and steered us through the very busy crowds to get to the best stalls and restaurants that we would not have discovered otherwise. The food was delicious ranging across sashimi, kobe beef, okonomiyaki, scallops in butter, pufferfish and various sweets and fruit. We then went onto the kitchen market which was a great place for shopping. We loved the tour and really recommend this as a wonderful experience and introduction to food and culture of Osaka.
