    Wonderful time in Osaka
Miyuki was a wonderful host in Osaka. She took us to wonderful places that we would have never known to look for otherwise. From sushi to takoyaki and kushikatsu. We highly recommend Arigato Food tours. Ask for Miyuki.

    Authentic Osaka
An incredible tour of Shinsekai with our lovely guide Kevin, who has now lived in Osaka for 23 years. His passion and love for the area was so evident throughout the tour and made for a special experience. No question was too much and he was able to paint such a wonderful and knowledgeable picture of the area past and present - whilst enjoying some fabulous food on the way. We wouldn’t have been able to find/try many of the food we had which makes it that much more special! Thanks Kevin you smashed it!

Super fun, excellent quality food and historical perspective on the food itself.
Yu was fantastic. we went on July 9t. He was super interesting to learn from and had a worldview. All five places he took us were excellent quality. Highly recommend his tour of the Shibuya.

You definitely won't need to get dinner after!
The guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and helpful. Even before the tour started she helped me find the meetup spot. There was tons of good food, with a pretty wide variety, including great introduction to izakayas. There's a substantial amount of food on this tour, it's not just small tastings. You won't leave unsatisfied!

A feast for all the senses - an excellent food tour
I booked this tour some months go after reading the excellent reviews others had written on TripAdvisor and was it one bit disappointed. Our guide Saika was wonderfully knowledgeable about the area and the culture/customs of the people. She told us many things about different shops as we passed them along the way. The food was totally amazing and each food stop had a different feel. We started off with sushi, standing up at in a small restaurant and then onto a bowl of ramen in a more street side location. Other stops included a Japanese pancake, chicken wings, gyoza and then a delicious sweet as dessert. Saika thank you for a fabulous night of food and memories. I can’t recommend this highly enough

Fun tour, but probably too expensive
We had a good time on this tour and our guide was really sweet and personable. However, for the price point (this tour cost nearly 3x the amount of our favorite food tour with another company in Japan 😳), I'm not sure the value is there. For example, in other tours, we stopped at places to taste foo that we didn't recognize or wouldn't have been drawn towards. On this tour, we had fried chicken and shaved ice...things my kids probably would have asked for anyway. We were also hoping that there might be other kids on the tour so my kids could talk with them while we got a little downtime, but no luck. Overall, absolutely nothing to complain about, but I would probably just wander the area on my own.

    Great Tokyo food experience!
Ray was a very friendly and informative guide who showed us some great local spots within Shinjuku. We greatly enjoyed all the local places he took us, which we surely wouldn’t have found otherwise. He also provided lots of helpful information about food and drink etiquette in Japan. Come with an empty stomach because you definitely get your moneys worth of food!

    Thanks, Hugh!
A quick shout-out to Hugh who showed us thru the Ginza ward and not only showed us some very interesting places to eat, but was also very knowledgeable about Tokyo customs (past and present) and history and was gracious enough to share that with us.

Made our stay in Japan so much more fun and meaningful.
Hannah, the guide for the Harajuku tour, was very knowledgable and friendly. She showed us a lot of places we would've completely missed otherwise. The sticker store was a surprise hit, my son and I thought "Who would go to a store with nothing but stickers?" but then of course we spent half an hour there. Thank you, Hannah, for making our stay in Japan so much more fun and meaningful.

    Unforgettable guide, unforgettable tour.
Shigeki, our All Star guide, took us to some fantastic restaurants, but really, the best part was the Inari shrine hidden away in a back alley in Ginza. Shigeki is so kind and knowledgable. Unforgettable guide, unforgettable tour. Highly recommended.

Great intro to food in Tokyo
Booked for our first morning in Tokyo. Had a great tour with Shigeki. He was knowledgeable about the fish market, passionate about Japanese’s seafood and purchased food for us to try picnic style as we walked. The hidden away restaurants where we sat and tasted felt off the beaten path. Would recommend to anyone looking for an introduction to Tokyo, Tsukiji and what to eat in Japan.

Enjoyable and Delicious time!
Mar 2023
We thoroughly enjoyed our food tour! The tea ceremony was extra special and all the food along the way was delicious and our guide informative. We (two 50+ year olds and one 15 year old) highly recommend this tour. It was a highlight of our trip and we liked doing it early in our trip so we could use the knowledge throughout our trip.

Yanaka Old Town with Josh
We had a great time with our guide Josh visiting Yanaka old town. It’s an area spared from the air raids during the war so is full of quaint shops and narrow alleys in the heart of modern Tokyo. The highlight was participating in a tea ceremony. The 4th generation tea master served us in antique bowls, some 200 to 300 years old. A wonderful experience.

We had Michie San as our tour guide and she was amazing. She is very friendly and knowledgeable about her favorite town of yanaka. The pace was good. The snack portions are large so definitely go with a hungry tummy.
Lunch was delicious at a lovely Japanese resto.

We have requested for a Japanese confectionery (wagashi) making class on top of the tour aLong with tea ceremony. It was such a fun learning experience I highly recommend to pay extra for it. You get to pick a tea bowl for the tea ceremony. I have never Imagined I would hold a 400 yr old tea bowl in my hands. It was fascinating.

All in all I wholeheartedly recommend this walking tour if you want something about off the beaten path and the loud and fast Tokyo. A piece from the last that is still quite alive!

Yanaka Food and Culture Tour
Apr 2024 • Couples
Now that I've had several weeks to look back on my first trip to Japan, I can say that my experience with Hannah and Mick was a wise choice and one of the best things we did. Tokyo is so big and it can be intimidating to explore areas that aren't talked about as much. We enjoyed walking around Yanaka and savoring the foods we tried. Our favorite was the menchi-katsu! The tea ceremony was also a unique experience. Overall, I would highly recommend Arigato Travel and suggest anyone who loves Japanese food and culture book a tour with them.

Wonderful Tokyo Old Town Tour
We had a fantastic morning with Hannah and Kazuno on the Old Town food tour. We sampled loads of wonderful food and drinks along the way and stopped for an amazing Japanese curry for lunch (one the best we’ve had!) The owner of the restaurant was such a delight and made us feel very welcome. We also took part in a wonderful tea ceremony and again the hosts wear incredibly warm and welcoming. Hannah and Kazuno were so knowledgable about the areas we explored and the history. All in all it was a wonderful day, thank you.

Enjoyable walking food tour
Mar 2023 • Family
My daughter, age 13, and I did the Old Town Food Tour with Yuko . It was interesting and fun. We were staying not far from the area where the food tour was conducted, but had not explored Yanaka Ginza before the tour. Yuko shared insights into the history of the area, taking us to some of the temples, as well as providing an opportunity to sample a range of foods. She went out of her way to accommodate us, to work out what we would like and be interested in, so as to make the tour fun. The team ceremony was special and I am very glad we had that experience.

the Yanaka Neighborhood Tour
Feb 2020
It was a lovely tour with Ambre, a great guide. We met on the sidewalk in front of a coffee shop. Then we walked down the street as Ambre pointed out the history and peculiarities of the interesting neighborhood. We stopped to sample the wares of some of the shops and then had a typical Japanese lunch. After lunch we were supposed to walk to a house for a tea ceremony. This is my warning. If you are mobility impaired in any way, take a taxi from lunch to the tea ceremony. It is a long, uphill walk. Then the tea ceremony is up a steep flight of stairs to the second floor. The tea ceremony was great. A real highlight. The tour and tour guide are nice. But if you have trouble walking, be careful.

Fantastic walking food tour
My wife and I loved this tour. We tend to do food tours in most countries we visit to get a real experience with locals and their food. Michie was our host and she had a new assistant who were both lovely caring people who really cared that we had a great time. Their English was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We experienced a wide variety of food and venues.
Would recommend highly.

Makki was really kind and incorporated our interests in the food tour! Not only did we get to eat delicious local food, but we were able to walk all around Yanaka to see how beautiful Yanaka is and hear stories about its history and culture. The tea ceremony was an absolutely incredible experience. Makki also took pictures of us during the tour which was great! I would say this is a must-do tour. Just make sure you don't plan anything too close to when the tour is scheduled to be finished. It might go over or you might want to stay to continue to check out the shops!
