  • Get tips and tricks on how to prepare Japanese food from your instructor
  • Enjoy your multi-course meal afterward, with a glass of sake
What to expect
  • All ingredients and supplies, an apron and a towel will be provided for you, so you don't have to worry about preparing anything. Your class will be a small group (limited to a maximum of 8 people), so you will never be a bystander. Kaiseki Ryouri is a traditional Japanese multi-course meal that is composed of many different methods of cooking based on its specific rules. During this class, you will make use of various methods to complete your full-course lunch. The instructors are all friendly, English-speaking locals who are happy to assist you. They will share some tips and stories of each of the recipes and sometimes share some secret techniques, too. This cooking class will give you a homey atmosphere to cook in. As Japanese always start with “Dashi”-making, each class will begin with the making of "Dashi," the fundamental soup stock of Japanese cooking. Your instructor will also explain about some of the typical Japanese seasonings which are frequently used. Then, you will prepare 6-7 dishes learning classic and modern recipes, ways to present food, elaborate cuttings and unique Japanese ingredients. You'll also cook some beautiful, tender Wagyu beef. After all of the cooking is finished, finally, it will be time to say 'Itadakimasu!'

Tokyo Cooking Class- suggest for passionate kitchen folk
Feb 2020
This class was awesome, and above the average nori roll sushi classes. There were some amazing learnings with ingredients I’ve never seen before. Really appreciated the friendly hosting of the training with comfort and fun. I was in a quiet season from tourists so ended up having a 1-to-1 cooking class with lots of Q+A! Just make sure you read the Trip Advisor for instructions properly to get to the location because its hosted in an apartment unit that you buzz-in for access.

Thoroughly enjoyable experience!!!
Apr 2019
This review is long overdue. I went to Japan last year, and did this activity in April of 2019. Warm, friendly, qualified instructors, who made everything seem so simple. I still make Japanese dishes back home in Montreal. I knew if I didn't learn how to make Japanese food I would regret it, and now I don't. Highly and unreseveredly recommended.

Wish we were in Tokyo longer so we could do another class!
Jan 2020 • Family
We did the Wagyu and Kaiseki cooking class - such an amazing experience! The instructors were helpful, explained everything, answered questions, and genuinely made the experience really fun. The food was delicious - especially the Wagyu - and we just had a great time all around. Will definitely recommend this class to friends who come to Tokyo and will do another class on my next trip!

Dec 2019
Friendly staff with hands on cooking. The materials are well written by someone fluent in english. I higly recommend this class is you want to go home and cook Japanese. Limit 8 per class and a small upcharge for sake with dinner. We did take another cooking class in Tokyo but this was the best.

Dec 2019 • Solo
I truly loved these ladies who put their heart and soul into teaching their recipes. They were well prepared spoke excellent English as well as many other languages for the other students and were very considerate to ensure we all got the technique. The food came out excellent even if I do say so myself. We managed to prepare about 8 courses from appetizers to dessert in authentic Japanese tradition. I learned the secrets of “umami”. And now can avoid being at the mercy of many Asian restuarants back home and prepare these when I want to. These ladies all deserve 10 stars!!!!

Fun and delicious
Dec 2019 • Couples
The two Yukis, teacher and assistant, provided an interesting, engaging, and informative introduction to Japanese cooking. With their guidance we created an 8 course meal which included a few ingredients that we have never cooked with including yaki fu, lotus root, and rice powder. The dishes and directions were well explained and each was delicious. We look forward to trying them again when we returned home. The cooking school sold a couple of tools - elongated chop sticks for cooking, a Japanese version of a mortar and pestle, and a pan for cooking dasjimaki tamago (omelet). Surprisingly, the prices were a bargain compared to prices at Toyku Hands! The whole experience is highly recommended!

Amazing class!
It’s really great to lean how to cook Japanese cuisine from basic ingredients by a awesome local teacher. From the knowledge of seasonings to cook up a whole meals, I’ve learned a lot from this class. It’s inspired me to cook something new. Thank you, Miss Hiromi.

The place is very difficult to find .the taxi driver could not find it. No signs.
The instructor didn't know the receipe and needed to look at our paper
From time to time she looked at her cellular phone...
We learn few new things and got few tips from the Japanese kitchen.

Restaurant food is good, but at Cooking Sun, it’s better
I can’t say enough good things about Miki, Yuki, and Yumi’s cooking studio. For one, they are so welcoming and open, they are really good at explaining instructions, and they make cooking fun.

Let’s start with the the first aspect, welcoming. Our class had people all from different countries and at different English levels, so if you have a fear of speaking English they are there for you 100% of the way. On the aspect of welcoming, my partner and I went there together and at first, I had some skepticism about conservative Asia. But surprisingly, they were more open to the LGBT community.

Regarding their cooking instructions, they are super clear. Before we even started, they gave us all a pamphlet with all the information we needed for the cooking class and explained each aspect (each ingredient, the history, why it’s used, and how it’s made). For a cooking nerd like me, I loved this. They super also accommodating, especially if English isn’t your second language or if you are not familiar with cooking/Japanese ingredients.

Lastly, they just made cooking fun! If you love social media, they also play into it and they will help you take all those selfies, boomerangs, snaps, and capture all this stories. Would I go back, absolutely! They also change their menu every season, so there’s always more to learn!

Thank you Miki, Yumi, and Yumi!
