- susanarnoldaldea00Introduction to Japanese ArchitectureThe tour of the buildings (museums and library) in Ueno park was very interesting. Our guide was kind, helpful, informative. An introduction to Japanese architects. Combing that with our independent tour of the museums afterwards made it a whole day outing.
- 54dimitym00A must for architecture enthusiastsThis tour is an absolute must for anyone interested in contemporary architecture. Our guide Yuki was a generous and extremely knowledgeable. Just book. You won’t regret it.
- Passenger2606284454300Great Architectural TourWow the tour was very educational and fun. The tour covered a lot of Architectural buildings in a very efficient way and included very needed time for tea and dessert. Thank you, Yuki!
- 476aleg00Omatosando architecture tour with AkiOur guide, Aki, walked us around Omatosando and explained us everything about the most iconic and interesting buildings in the area. The tour was very relaxed, and, despite the July heat, we enjoyed walking in the less busy backstreets and inside shops on and behind the main road. At the end of the tour, Aki kindly recommended a noodle shop that serves cold noodles and walked us all the way to the restaurant. Highly recommended for anyone interested in contemporary architecture and in visiting one of Tokyo’s nicest areas with a local.
- H9689DVpatrickc00Great introduction to JapanGreat introduction to Tokio from Yuki Great guide knowing a lot about Japan. Interesting Ueno tour. Great park and architecture
- sabrinamQ6223AG00Great tour of Ueno Architecture!I loved my tour with Mari. Mari was a warm and funny guide, and we had fun for the whole 2 hour tour. Mari is an experienced guide and is knowledgeable and passionate about the architecture of Ueno.
- D6432TLmiaa00Great tour for architecture students and design enthusiasts!I decided to take this tour after doing some research before my solo trip to Japan. I am an architecture student, so i thought that a guided tour would be helpful in many aspects like navigation and information on the architecture. I am very glad that I had this tour!! Eriko-san was my tour guide and she was very knowledgeable and patient on our tour. I enjoy to sketch so she was patient and allowed me to draw the spaces we visited. If you are looking for a tour while you are visiting Tokyo, this is a great choice! Thank you Showcase Tokyo Architecture Tours and Eriko-san for an experience that I will remember forever :)
- isabellelO8712TQ00Iconic contemporary architecture and amazing guide! This tour was an amazing journey led by Yoko through some of the Tokyo contemporary architecture signed off by internationally renown architects! Yoko was able to relate these buildings to history, social context and even japanese traditions. It was good pace, well balanced , including even a time to have tea in the iconic wood covered building Sunny Hills by Kengo Kuma. I highly recommend both Yoko and the tour!
- anands18000Ghosted 1d before tour…cancelled without warning/notice. BEWARE!Host cancelled before our tour - I found out only when I was revisiting the info to figure out when/where to meet. Called their number: no response. Texted our assigned tour guide: no response. Contacted Viator/Tripadvisor: they confirmed I was cancelled but couldn’t offer a remedy. We were cancelled AFTER confirming and getting assigned a guide. Unprofessional, please be aware this could happen to you. Luckily the tour itinerary was sent to me beforehand so we can essentially do it on our own. But still…
- GEHS165800Interesting walking architecture tour by a very knowledgeable guideOur guide Yoshi-san was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about the architecture, architects and history of the buildings he showed us. He came prepare with notes and illustrations of other works by these famous architects. He had a very relaxed manner and spoke very good English and was an excellent communicator. He answered and addressed all our enquires and interests about these very interesting buildings in this district. We highly recommend Yoshi-san for this tour. It was one of our best tours in our 3 weeks of touring Japan.
- Stephanie V00An excellent overviewA most enjoyable and interesting tour. Yuka, my tour guide was knowledgeable and gave an excellent overview of the architecture of the area, which I would not have been able to do on my own.
- antjelempartober00Expertise and sensitivenessChika took time to sensibalize us and had all the expert knowledge. She waited for us and asked about our needs. She is a warm-hearted and professional guide. We loved to get into the different types of architecture and museums. Arigato.
- BoardingPass67079400A wonderful lens to view Tokyo throughI did the Omotesando Architecture tour with Aki as my guide. It was informative and eye opening to learn so much about the thoughtful and considered approach to Japanese architecture. I visited many buildings I would not have discovered without this tour. A valuable way to spend your time, in my opinion! I especially liked walking through some of the back streets as well, which I would perhaps not have ventured on my own. They contained little gems of architecture- and coffee! Aki was very polite and knowledgeable, which I appreciated.
- LizB12345600Great tour even for architecture newbies, highly recommendOur tour guide was fabulous - she had laminated tour materials that showed key people, concepts, dates to help aid the transfer of information during the tour. We went to 4 different places in the Ueno park, and our favorite was the Children's Literature Museum. The tour guide pointed out small architectural elements that would have gone un-noticed otherwise. We then walked around the museums afterwards ourselves.
- Scenic1863078274000Omotesando Walking Tour with Teen/PreteenWe booked the Omotesando Tour with Yoshi. He was very knowledgeable and kind. His English was good so it made it easy to follow him and he enjoyed sharing what he knew with us. He took his time to tell us all about the various architectural landmarks we saw along the way, He also put together a small booklet with all of the landmarks listed with pictures for easy reference later on. We did start to run out of time towards the end so we needed to rush through the back 1/3rd of the tour which was a shame because there were a lot of interesting things to review T the end. He shared his personal story with us as well which I found to be very fascinating. My kids (ages 16, 11) were with me and my wife. My son is interested in architecture so he found it engaging. My daughter who is 11 was a good sport but probably a bit too young for this sort of tour which got detailed about buildings and famous architects. She wanted to stop in a bunch of the fun stores along the way. I really loved hearing about the Yoyogi Olympic Stadium in particular, as well as the Sunny Hill Building in Minami Aoyama. I would recommend it for anyone who has an interest in architecture and wants to do a deep dive on an interesting neighborhood. May be too detailed for someone who wants a cursory view and wants to move through Tokyo history quickly.

Yoshi went above and beyond a simple walking tour of Ginza. He was very kind, courteous, and patient with us as this was our first visit to Japan. Yoshi is very knowledgeable and went out of his way to show us several architectural marvels around Ginza. Would highly recommend.

Aki is an excellent and knowledgeable guide. He showed us to some marvelous places we never would have discovered otherwise. It was interesting to learn about the concepts and ideas behind some of Ginza’s modern architecture landmarks.

I happen to be very fascinated with architecture and went on this tour with my mother. By the end of the three hours I had not only learned an incredible amount about the architectonics of many beautiful high-rises in Ginza, but walked away with a much better understanding of the area's unique history and culture as well. It was a very informative tour led by a great tour guide, Kihara-san. I highly recommend it even if you aren't passionate about architecture.

I highly recommend the Nakagin capsule tour to anyone who is interested in architecture.
The guide, Matsubara-san has much experience and knowledge, and also she is very friendly.
Hopefully I could attend other tours like Harajuku & Omotesando tour, Ginza tour or their new Koganei tour as well.

Things that this tour included:
1. The coolest elevators that I've ever seen
2. A tour of a former apartment building now filled with miniature art galleries
3. A trip down back alleys to a hidden Inari shrine
4. A quick history of Japan's cafe culture
5. Making high-fashion and architecture feel accessible
6. Recommendations for great (and affordable) tonkatsu in Ginza
I have no background in architecture and no training in any fine art. This was an incredible experience. Yuki was phenomenal: patient, knowledgeable, and so enthusiastic that I hardly noticed that I was wearing a full suit in near-90 degree Tokyo heat.
My group bundled the Ginza tour with the Nakagin Capsule Hotel and both were really wonderful. I speak Japanese and live in Tokyo, but getting to tour with the Showcase team really felt like visiting a whole new city. Strongly recommend to anyone who wants to feel like they're being let in on an amazing secret that's hiding in plain sight (and who wants to learn a lot about and experience some incredible spaces).

We had a great time in joining the Ginza Architecture tour. Our tour guide Mira is a knowledgeable and friendly person. She showed us around those unique buildings, some are with hundred years history and some are trendy style. We were not only admiring the exterior of those buildings, but also were brought into some of them. During the tour we know more about the architecture and the history of Ginza. We believe that if we didn’t join the tour, in our memory Ginza is just a commercial and shopping area as other areas. But now we know that Ginza is a unique place. I would highly recommend this tour.

Met the tour guide near Tsukiji fish market started the tour and it was lots of fun and very informative about the history of the areas and buildings all over Ginza. We were also able to go into some buildings and interact with the features of the buildings as well as admire them.

We had Yuka as our guide. She designed the tour specifically to cater to our interests in the stories behind the architecture. She has done the research and was able to take us through the history of the buildings - the transformations and the people responsible for those transformations.
