The water was so cold but after a while it was better. Love the history behind the place. Drinkable spring water. The owners are knowledgeable and well informed. Will love to go back soon. Thank you so much. 😊Written July 2, 2024

- Katie M0 contributionsExtreme AdventureWe did the extreme river adventure and it was amazing! The tour guide Omar was great and was so knowledgeable about the River and caves. Jose met us at the end and helped with the ropes, great guy and great day. We stayed at the areceibo observatory the night before, the meeting spot is right next to the hotel and the observatory itself. The adventure was somewhat strenuous but we like to be challenged and Omar kept asking if we wanted to take a break so there’s no pressure to hurry if you want to take your time. We highly recommend and it was the highlight of our Puerto Rico Adventure!Written January 24, 2023
- caroleeh2410 contributionsUnforgettable / inolvidableExceeded our expectations! We loved every minute of it! If you like hiking, exploring, nature and just hVing an adventure you must do this excursion. Jose and his team were very professional. Instructions and rules were clear. Regular or hiking shoees are a must. Water shoes or sandals won’t work for this terrain. They gave so much information about flora, fauna and history. The scenery was unforgettable. Super fun experience. Bring waterproof bags, snacks and water. It’s walking for hours so be prepared to burn some energy. It is worth it though. I highly recommend.Written December 31, 2022
- kimmicci0 contributionsOwner has anger issues & is extremely unprofessionalBuckle in for a long review because that’s exactly what this is, a literal essay of 5 pages that has to be split up in several comments. TLDR; I have had 2 separate bad experiences with this buisness. 1.) October 2021 – Guajataca Adventure – group of 4 – *cancelled due to weather, rescheduled, then cancelled again *When we called/texted there was no answer until we left a negative review. *Owner only refunded us if we deleted our review. We did & we got refunded. 2.) April 9-10, 2022 – Camping – group of 25 as part of a school trip with the UPRM *Campsite was supposed to be ONLY our group, thus all facilities would be accessible to us. *There were other families there, we did not get the campsite with a firepit as promised, owner told us to use bathrooms 1 & 3 (1 was to be shared with another family). *Owner grew unnecessarily agitated and angry, speaking to our professor in raised voices – in front of all of us. Professor did not raise his voice and no student dared to get involved, only the owner was acting unreasonable. Owner threatened to kick us out for NO REASON other than being angry at our professor despite the busses already being gone. *Gave us (our student leader who organized the event) a full refund. *Then we were allowed to stay. *ALL WE DID WAS SHOWER, EAT & SLEEP. No partying, no loud music or noise, no drinking alcohol, nothing eventful happened except that we had a relaxing time with friends. *Next day after we leave, owner bullies our student leader into paying the money again (+ more money because we left a “huge mess” (supposedly shown in the photos below that he sent her.)) 3.) Owner has anger issues and does not know how to run a buisness. 4.) This is still an on-going situation, but this review will NOT be deleted ever. There are other amazing Puerto Rican companies that do great adventures and have beautiful fincas (campsites)! Don’t waste your money here- ESPECIALLY if you are only visiting the island. If he’s a mess for us locals, imagine how he will ruin your trip if you are only here for a short time. It's a shame that this owner is ruining his own buisness because what he has to offer is actually quite amazing. The river experiences seem really fun and the campsite (finca) is really nice! The only ugly thing is his attitude & unprofessionalism. ____________________________________________________________________________________________ There’s a saying in English, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” I am Kimberly Trahan, one of the 25 students who camped this weekend (April 9-10, 2022) at their campsite (“finca” en Espanol). For me, this was my SECOND bad experience with them. THE FIRST EXPERIENCE (Oct 2021) The first bad experience with them was back in October 2021. My husband and two best friends booked the Guajataca Adventure. Being adventurous people and geology students, we thought this would be a super fun experience. Well, the experience never came as weather cancelled our original date- at midnight right before. At first we thought, “okay that’s understandable. No big deal, we’ll just re-schedule since we live here in PR.” So we did. Second round came 2 weeks later and this time we were to meet at the spot near the Arecibo Conservatory at 8am. We got there by 6:45AM. While they did text my husband to cancel concerning weather again and my husband missed the text for some reason, when 8am rolled around and we tried calling/texting them- they never answered. When we started looking at their facebook reviews, we saw others who only got them to respond once they left a bad review. So, we (my best friend and I) tried it and voila, magically, they were available. We mentioned in the original review that we were locals & geology students from UPRM and by treating us this way, we would make sure to tell our peers to never book with them. If locals can’t trust to have a good experience, then how in the hell can he expect tourists visiting for a short limited time to have a good experience. He called us upset and near to tears saying how “they were humble campo (country) people who strongly relied on good reviews for buisness, since they were a small buisness. That they knew and have worked with some of the professors of the geology department and never had a bad experience with them.” We negotiated deleting/editing the review and when we did, they would give us a refund. We DELETED our reviews and got a full refund. [Shame I never took a screencap of the reviews though.] I was originally really upset because we (my husband & best friends) are all broke college students who live paycheck to paycheck. This adventure isn’t cheap so we all saved up for this adventure to celebrate all of our birthdays. Before moving to Puerto Rico, I used to work at a Days Inn Hotel in Houston, Texas, near NASA Space Center & Kemah Boardwalk, so I know all about the hospitality and tourism industry. That was why, even though he was extremely unprofessional to us, I decided to relax and give them a break because I get it. I’ve had extremely rough days at work when things get rough and are out of your hands and you want to provide the safest experience for your clients. PLUS, as a student of Geology, I’m 110% aware of the dangers of being in rivers when it rains as it is part of our education curriculum to graduate. My most MAJOR personal example: working at the hotel during Hurricane Harvey as it severely flooded Houston. I kayaked to work, worked over 48 hours without sleep, and deal with actual chaos as people rushed to find shelter from their flooding homes while our own lobby was flooding too. When there were no more rooms, we allowed people to stay in the hallways overnight. When the hallways became full, we had to heartbreakingly turn people away back into the dangerous flood. So yea… I take floods and rivers VERY seriously. This was why I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I personally decided I would never book with them again, but I also wouldn’t want to ruin their buisness. I just wanted nothing to do with them ever again since they ruined my birthday. _________________________________________________________________________________________ THE SECOND EXPERIENCE (April 9-10, 2022) This second bad experience with them occurred this weekend April 9-10, 2022. As I have stated before, I am a geology student at UPRM, and as such I am also a member of the Student Geological Society (Sociedad Geologica Estudiantil). This weekend’s adventure was to study paleontology (aka fossils) in San Sebastian and Lares for two days and camping for one night. We planned on doing the typical make s’mores over a campfire, eat dinner, tell stories, look at the fossils we collected during the day, charge our phones (since most of us still did not have power at our homes since Wednesday night), shower and go to sleep early because we had another long day of hiking coming up. It was planned by our student society and I agreed to go of course because why would I not want to join the fun? I paid my fee and then she told us to sign a waiver. The moment I saw the waiver I thought, “oh no,” because you see, my best friends and I, are not cruel people and we never actually DID tell our peers about our bad experience. This time, I told our leader about it. The place was already paid for. Since it was camping not a river excursion & it was with a school activity, we prayed it would be a much better experience. According to our leader, we were supposed to have the whole camping grounds to our group of 25 students only. When we arrived, (after a very long day of being in the sun and doing our geology thing), we wanted to quickly set up, shower, eat and relax because we were all super tired and exhausted. However, when we got there, there were other camping groups already there and children running around. All the firepits had been taken. We waited there in the covered area to figure out what was going on & to take shelter from the rain that began to pour. Our professor and the owner began talking (in Spanish- so my peers had to translate and tell me what was going on because all I knew from visual context was that the owner was getting heated and aggressive for no reason at all and I was super, extremely confused.) According to my peers, at one point during the conversation, there was a mention about setting up our kitchen area under the covered area and setting up our campsite at the back of the area. Our professor wasn’t initially fond of the idea since it would be far and something could get stolen. Instead of calmly explaining that it was safe, the owner immediately grew angry and defensive claiming to be offended about their security. He angrily pointed out the cameras and where he lives, saying that they were “humble campo people” and he was extremely insulted that our professor would dare to question the security of the finca. I honestly don’t even understand how or why this blew up out of proportion because literally none of us (25 students) said anything and our professor was extremely polite (though growing stern once the owner grew agitated). Only at one point did a classmate calmly tell the owner to calm down because there was no reason to be so angry over a simple concern. It was honestly really awkward and embarrassing to watch. Then the owner told us to check out the campsite and see if it was too our liking. We did and it was actually nice even though in this back area there were no campfire pits. By the time we returned to grab our belongings, the owner had called our student leader and informed her that our professor (& his family: wife and 2 small children under age 6) would not be allowed to stay or we would ALL have to leave. This was a HUGE problem for us because 1.) The busses were already long gone back to the colegio. 2.) Since this is was a school trip, our professor is LEGALLY responsible for us as students. He is 100% not allowed to leave us alone. I’m not entirely certain what conversation took place, but eventually after so much back and forth with phone calls to the owner – because he wouldn’t dare show his face again to talk to us like civil human beings – we were all allowed to stay. He also provided a full refund to our leader. Before leaving, the owner told us that the showers and water were from the reserves and since there were so many of us + other campers, to be aware not to use to much water and that it might run out (fair enough, we understand. No big deal. It is what it is). It appears he did NOT tell this detail to the other camping families that were present this weekend as shown in the photo the owner sent our leader- more on this later. We set up camp in the far back area and began cooking dinner (a special spaghetti recipe mmm). We all decided as a group to not wash our hair and keep our showers short- not only to preserve water, but so everyone could shower before dinner. The owner told our leader that since we were a big group we would use bathrooms 1 & 3. One of them (I’m not sure which) was to be shared with one of the other camping families that was present. Now apparently (according to my peers), when you book this camping experience, each family is supposed to get their own assigned bathroom- thus, this was unfair to both us and the other family. At 7:30pm, the water ran out. We still had 9 students who had not gotten a shower and since we had been in the field all day and extremely sweaty & dirty, the one student who had come in his own car was given the task to drive to the store and buy a bunch of gallons of water to bathe with. This wasn’t a big deal for us because we expected it might happen. Now, if you recall, earlier I mentioned it had RAINED. The campsite isn’t too muddy, but it is an outdoor area that is not concrete- so of course our shoes get muddy. When we used the bathrooms, we used our OWN paper napkins to clean the bathrooms, because even though we are all geology students, we also like to be clean. However, with the ground outside being muddy, this was a task that didn’t succeed 100%. We all live here in Puerto Rico and know better than to throw toilet paper down the toilet so we threw our stuff in the trashcans provided. I mention all this because as you see in the photo I provide, the other family sharing our bathroom claimed to the owner that we wasted the water and made a “huge mess” – that is not a huge mess. Yes, there is some mud and the trashcan is full, but the bathroom is NOT a huge mess. The shower and sink were clean and even HAND SOAP BARS that they provide were clean despite being used. That night all we did was eat dinner, chit-chat a little amongst our friend groups & tent partners, and go to sleep. It was relaxing and uneventful. It was just nice to see our friends & peers again after several days of no school due to the island power outage. If he wants to pull the “we are humble campo buisness owners” card, then I will pull the “we are tired geology students who just wanted to shower, eat and sleep” card. There was no partying, no drinking, not even loud music. The other families had loud music, but not us. We are not a fraternity or a group of wild college students. We are literally just a bunch of ‘lame’ nerds who study rocks, fossils and geological phenomenon. In the morning we woke up, ate breakfast, packed up and used the toilet before leaving – the bathrooms now had water again. We made sure all the trash was picked up from our campsite and that the bathrooms were as clean as we could make them. When we loaded up the busses with our belongings, two boxes of empty water gallons and a small bag of trash was ACCIDENTLY left behind on the table under that covered area. This is shown in the photo below sent by the owner. While we continued on our second day of adventure and learning about fossils, our leader received the texts shown here from the owner and that he wanted our group to not only pay the full amount back but also a bit more to clean up the area. Our leader, who is a VERY nice girl, was bullied by the owner to pay the money back by threatening to report her and call up the University and report us a whole group. Of course, her kind-hearted soul got scared and paid him again. I’m not aware if she paid him the extra bit more to clean up the supposed “huge” mess. Personally, I’m angered by this because what kind of buisness owner bullies a good, sweet student trying her best to organize a school trip? And the “mess” as shown in the photos is a lightly muddy floor and our two boxes of trash left on the table up front. Our campsite was left clean. Why does he want to charge us more? As someone who previously worked in a hotel, that is literally something not to charge extra for. If you guys need a new mop, I suggest you go to Always 99. Fabuloso is also extremely cheap. You wouldn’t even need to spend more than $5. Or perhaps it was the trashcans inside the bathrooms being full? I don’t know what to suggest except as a buisness, it’s the employee’s job to pick it up. If we as customers were supposed to empty the trashcans inside the bathrooms, then that was NOT explained to us. Trust me, as a prior hotel employee, I have seen what actual “huge messes” look like- trashed out rooms, broken furniture, vomit &/or caca everywhere. It’s an actual nightmare. This though? There was no reason to demand more money for it. Now the other matter is the fact that the other family was clearly not informed that they would be sharing a bathroom with our group & that the water might run out. April 9- owner tells us to use bathrooms 1 & 3. April 10- “you were only assigned one bathroom” and that he has security footage of us using both. My thoughts were simply, “Okay good because you told us to use those two.” I now wonder if the security footage records sound. This camping experience was a HUGE mess simply all because of the owner having anger issues and not knowing how to actually properly run a buisness. He felt offended that my professor had “insulted” the security of the finca- and maybe the finca is always safe from theft. However, your agitated attitude plus the bullying of a young female student leader made ME feel extremely uneasy and unsafe. This time, I am NOT deleting my review no matter how much he cries or begs. THIS is the reality of running a buisness. I STRONGLY, STRONGLY, STRONGLY suggest that the owner 1.) get some therapy & anger management lessons, 2.) go get a degree/certification in hospitality so he can understand how to properly run a buisness and cater to customers. If he has one already- then he’s failing terribly & needs some self-evaluation. To the owner: You called our leader terrible for being disorganized and not being able to keep everyone under control. She was EXTREMELY organized and there was no need to “keep everyone under control” because no one was out of control. Only you. You were the only one out of control and disorganized. Not her.Written April 11, 2022

We had a family reunion there. People of all ages and there was something for all to do and enjoy. The owner and employees were extremely diligent in getting us to the destination in an orderly fashion and then safely guiding parties within the river. great time and memories. It was an amazing experience! The combination of adventure and relaxation was perfect. Hiking to the canyon and inside the caves was muddy and slippery, so I highly recommend wearing sturdy hiking shoes – they’ll definitely come in handy.
Even though it was warm outside, the shaded areas along the tour and inside the caves were quite chilly. If you tend to feel cold, make sure to bring an extra layer to stay comfortable.
The scenery was beautiful, and the overall experience was well-organized and fun. Floating down the river in tubes was such a unique and peaceful way to end the adventure. I’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone looking for something outdoorsy and relatively close to the metro area (~1.5 hr drive).

My wife and I did the Tanama Eco-tour with Omar and we had a wonderful time! Omar had tremendous knowledge of the region, the history, and the wild life in the area. Due to weather concerns, Jose met up with our group and Jose/Omar changed the plan up a bit to ensure everyone’s safety. We got to do some rock climbing and hiking on top of the river/cave tour. Jose also had incredible knowledge about the region and history of the area. He talked with us about how the land was originally farm land but they are in the process of helping to bring back the natural forest. I would recommend this adventure 100/100. The views and experience were amazing. There is a certain level of physical fitness that would be required to enjoy this trip and wear something to help keep you warm as the river is “refreshing”.

Shout-out to the tour operator. THANK YOU. Although our tour was cancelled due to weather, (heavy rains, and high water,) we were informed in a timely manner, and our payment for the cancelled trip was refunded ON THE SAME DAY! This timely communication prevented us from wasting a precious day, and allowed us to pivot quickly to riding horses on the beach that day.
This is an trust-worthy outfit. Thank you Aventureo PR for thinking of safety first. We booked it because local friends have raved about the experience for themselves and guests. Oh well, next visit!

What an amazing time! You get to see waterfalls, caves, and best of all - float back to the beginning of the tour! Jose is a great guide - very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. He also had excellent recommendations on good local coffee, the best roasted pork in Lares, and restaurants. And - he even takes photos/videos and sends them to you for free! If you’re traveling to San Juan, definitely set aside one day, get outside of the city, and experience the Tanama river.

We had an AMAZING time!!! Our tour guide Jose was amazing as well! He took his time with us, didn't rush us at all and talked to us the whole time like he knew us his whole life! Which made the experience 100x's better. He gave us recommendations about restaurants and what to see if PR. He took pictures and videos of us as well and sent them to us which was awesome. The rainforest was so beautiful, words can't even describe how beautiful it was. We are active people and we were doubting ourselves to do this excursion. But we said let's just do it and I'm glad we did. Because we had little experience on hiking and we were able to do it. Don't get me wrong, some spots going up hill was hard. But Jose took his time with us and helped us all. Definitely recommend this excursion 100%!! You won't regret it, trust me!!! Definitely will go back and do it again. It was an experience we will never forget. PR rainforest is beautiful!

If you're doubting whether you have the fitness to go on this excursion, probably not... but do it anyway! I, who am the most vague and whiny person in this country, made it, so can you. The guides are spectacular, and with every joke they make, your fear will be lifted. 100% recommend the experience with Aventureo PR. Although we travel a lot, as good Puerto Ricans we know less about our island than we do about other countries (how embarrassing), but this is an excellent opportunity to learn more about our history and roots.
The guides are super knowledgeable and share everything they know in a fun and enjoyable way. Take your snack, believe me, you're gonna need it. Don’t worry about your cell phone, they will take pictures and send them to you later. Finally, read the instructions sent to you so that you arrive prepared and know what to expect. You will love it! 🇵🇷

The Tanamá River adventure was one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences our group and I have ever had. Our time with Jose was filled with a lot of insightful knowledge about the region’s history, and Puerto Rican folklore. The journey was fun, the water was refreshing, the caves/caverns were really cool, and the canyons simply breathtaking. Puerto Rico is full of hidden gems and this one is certainly one of the island’s best.
Additionally, we had the opportunity to camp at Jose’s Lago Guajataca camp site in San Sebastián. The place is neat, spacious, and beautiful. Jose was kind enough to offer us parchas and toronjas from the farm. We can’t wait to come back again and definitely look forward to our next adventures with Jose!

I had to stop in the middle of the tour. As the tour guide will tell you. One way in, and out. There WILL BE rock climbing, steep ups & downs, tube floating.

Our cruise ship does not arrive until 10am. Do you have later tours? Also, is there a weight limit to repel? And do we have to repel? Scared of heights.

I didn’t make it to Rick climbing, but there is NO rappelling. ‘Some heights. The challenge is it’s not super high, but narrow ledges, which are wet & slippery

Could you give me an address and time for departures? My sisters and I are going to PR for a week later this month. We'll be staying in Humacoa/

What do you use when floating (body rafting)? Tube?
Are there times we need to pull ourselves up? Do you need to have good upper body strength for pulling yourself up?
At anytime do we need to jump down or off into water?
