The perfect day for anyone interested in wildlife conservation
The best day! I wanted a day to learn everything I could about the conservation for these amazing animals and the day exceeded all of my expectations. My guide was very knowledgeable and it was clear that all of the staff cared deeply about each animal. An absolute must visit!

      A Fascinating Day!
My husband & I chose the Forest Walk with Picnic and Wildlife Tour and were not disappointed. Seeing up close meerkats, birds, tortoises and a variety of cats was fascinating and our guide, Sandile, was very knowledgeable and informative. The cats were amazing to see in such close proximity and the white lion was magnificent. After the wildlife tour, Sandile then took us on the Forest Walk pointing out various plants and trees. He was great in explaining the various medicinal uses of the plants and also how indigenous people used them in their daily lives. He also pointed out evidence of Koi people - a rock that had been hollowed out in which tools would be sharpened. Sandile was an excellent guide and his interest, knowledge and passion whether for the animals or the forest was so evident. We highly recommend this tour.

      Excellent- certainly worth a visit
We visited for a private wildlife tour on Thursday 8th. We had an amazing time thanks to our fantastic guide Msizi Shange. He was very knowledgeable and had a great affinity with the animals. It helped that it was an overcast day so the animals were in view (not hiding in the shade). Obviously you can only see the lions, cheetah & leopard from behind a fence but you are still very close. Plenty of picture opportunities! You can walk amongst the African wild cats, servals & tortoises. There are also a caracals, a few penguins, cranes, herons & very playful meerkats. We would highly recommend a visit here.

      Amazing Experience
We booked the Lion Cabin & it was worth it. To hear the Lions Roar at 5am made the hair on our arms stand up !! The food was cooked for us by delightful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. To see all the animals and hear about their stories was one of the highlights of our visit. Keri looked after us on our tour & was so attentive during our two night stay. The gift shop and jewellery on offer was amazing & a few purchases were made.

      Can't recommend Tenikwa enough!
A quite incredible few days... booked as a part of a journey along the garden route we thought tow nights would be enough at Tenikwa. As it was we would have happily stayed there a lot longer. It was so good to see all the wildlife up close and personal and to stay in the Lion lodges brought it all that much closer. Learning about all the work they do was quite awe inspiring and just for this they need huge recognition. Now all that would make it worthy of an excellent/five star rating but add in the quality of care and welcome that the staff brought to us and it takes the whole experience to another level. I can only say that if you are even vaguely in the area you must book to visit and stay at Tenikwa!

      Amazing experience ❤️
We had an amazing private-tour with Keri. It was a once in a lifetime experience for us to see these gorgeous beautiful fantastic animals up close❤️ and we learned so much about them. What a wonderful place for them to live, and their well-being is number 1 for their caretakers. We thank Keri for a amazing experience! 🙏 Keep up the good work, you are angels for helping these animals and so many others too.

Best place in South Africa to experience big cats!
We visited Tenikwa as a couple, and we had unforgettable moments that we will never forget in our lives. We were able to witness beautiful big cats up close. The service was incredible, Keri was our guide, she was super available and shared information and details about the park and the animals with good humor and energy. The work they do to recover and care for animals is impressive and deserves to be valued. They take care of animals with huge professionalism and love! This experience is so worth it! Congratulations to Tenikwa team!

      Charming
Slightly dreading having to have a guided tour but our guide, Davidson was fab. Very knowledgeable but not long winded. It was hot but glad I wore long trousers as we went into the serval’s habitat, in the bushes. Leopards, cheetahs and lions are the real highlight. Clearly a genuine sanctuary not a tourist trap.

Perfect visit for animal lovers! Definitely worth a visit.
We had an absolutely fantastic time at the sanctuary and it was humbling as to how the team here do such a fantastic job with rehabilitation. The guides are informative and relaxed! We loved the lions, definitely worth a visit if you love animals.

GREAT INTRODUCTION TO BEING CLOSE UP WITH WILD ANIMALS
As a lover of seeing wild animals in their natural environment it takes awhile to adjust to seeing animals in enclosures. Having said that one must accept that the animals you see have been rescued and continue to live a lovely life. Not only that but Tenikwa do an amazing amount of good work in rehabilitating animals to go back into the wild, these animals you do not see as contact with humans is minimised. I enjoyed doing the tour and the Guide was very knowledgeable and thus I learnt a lot. I do recommend that you visit Tenikwa and it is worth every minute

      An Amazing Day
My wife and I enjoyed this so much that we booked to do it again before we left! The forest walk was beautiful and our guide was extremely knowledgable about the flora and fauna of the area. This was followed up by a really nice authentic South African picnic lunch. The wildlife tour was fantastic. We got to see all the resident animals from Tenikwa and to learn about their habits, behaviours and backgrounds. Totally recommend!

We went to Birds of Eden and what a lovely experience. Thete is a winding wooden walkway with railings to make it easy to walk the 2.5km to the end. Plan to walk slow to see all the birds. We went late afternoon with feeding time and saw a lot of birds.
The staff is very helpful and friendly. Midway is also a cafe for a quick drink or snack but plan to be early as they close at 16h00.

Keen to have an experience of wildlife and help support a wildlife welfare project, we visited this place off the beaten track. The staff were very friendly and helpful, our guide on the tour knowledgeable and personable. His connection with the leopard, servals, wild cat and lions was particularly strong and they clearly responded well to him. The animals are in beautiful condition and very content. A very worthwhile experience in support of an excellent project.

So many of these "sanctuary's" exist in South Africa and are a glorified zoo with miserable uncared for animals. This is not. The work Tenikwa does in rehabilitation and education & awareness in conservation of wild animals is incredible and like nothing I've witnessed before. These animals are loved and cared for by the locals. They have been saved and their lives turned around. Please visit and support when next in the area. My kids and I
loved it and learnt so much. Such an incredible experience

A bit more maintenance to the roads to Tenikwa would be welcome, special for smaller cars. The guide took the group on tour and told a lot of information about the animals to see. In this limited space there were only 2 lions, 2 or 3 cheeta's and smaller cats. The guide made a big effort to have us see the cheeta.

A great ethical rescue center. The animals are treated well and you get to go inside some of the enclosures. Great info about each animal. Kind and caring staff. We even got close to meerkats! It's not a large place, but it's so worth a visit. One hour walk was plenty of time.

We visited Tenikwa today with our 18 year old son who has Down’s syndrome and associated speech difficulties. We were super lucky as we were the only people for that particular tour and our guide, Boniwe, was so helpful, patient and knowledgeable! She took time to understand our son’s questions and answered them in really simple language which is just perfect for him. Her English is very good and she has such a love for the animals it’s infectious. She is very dedicated to ensuring guests have a great and safe experience! We would definitely recommend a visit here.

Such a great and informative tour! My tour guide was Peter and I was lucky to get a private tour as a big group just started right before I arrived. From the lovely woman at the reception to all the other guides we met, you could see how passionate they are about what they are doing and I absolutely enjoyed my tour. As the caracal and lions didn’t show / were barely visible when I did my tour, Peter offered me to join his next group and try my luck an other time - which luckily worked. It was so kind of him to do that and he is really doing an amazing jobs - I learned so many new things and will definitely come back whenever I will be in SA again! 100% recommend! ☺️

Really nice tour seeing all the rescued animals. I believe they really do good at this place so visiting is also supporting their efforts to help rescued animals.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the place and that made the tour even more interesting.

There are a couple of lions, cheetahs, and other cool cats, birds and other animals.

Worth a visit and value for money.

I guess urs better when you stay in. As day visitors we had limited view of animals. They were sleeping and hidden it just didn't make it worth our while. There was seemingly nothing that could be done to bring th closer. I was really looking forward to seeing the wild cats

Thank you for your support and your review. It is a difficult balancing act for us, to allow the cats the freedom to choose where they want to be in their large enclosures, or how active they want to be Versus a barren environment so that guests can see them better. We hope that we have got the balance right, but on some days when the weather is very hot, or it is cold, the cats prefer to tuck away and snooze. If you had mentioned it at reception on your return from the tour, our guides would have been more than happy to spend more time with you after the tour to perhaps spot some more cats, as it is very important to us that you have the opportunity to experience the wild cats of South Africa and be inspired to learn more about their struggle to survive in the wild.

One of the highlights of our visit to S Africa. Our guide Boniwe was so informative and passionate about the education of people towards the preservation of the wild animals and the rehabilitation of those injured and brought to the sanctuary. I have learned so much about the animals and to be so close up to the lions in particular was incredible. Please visit and support this non profit organisation, you won’t regret it.
