What to expect
Make your own way to Dochgarroch Lock, roughly 4.5 miles (7km) southwest of Inverness. At your chosen start time of 9:30am, 11:30am, or 2pm, you'll board your boat and settle in for a 2-hour cruise. Drinks, light snacks, and whisky are available at your own expense.  Glide along the history-rich Caledonian Canal, and cross the waters of Loch Dochfour into the legendary Loch Ness.  If you can tear your eyes from the scenery, then take a look at the onboard sonar that monitors the whereabouts of Nessie. You’ll hear a bleep if she’s thought to be lurking nearby.  Listen out for fun facts about the loch’s past and the legends that surround it. Sights along the route include the inland Bona Lighthouse, Urquhart Castle, and Aldourie Castle, which is now a luxury vacation estate. You’ll even see the crash site of a Wellington bomber aircraft from World War II. After two hours on the water, you’ll return to the start point to end your cruise.

Excellent and Interesting
From booking to taking the boat trip, we found the whole experience, relaxed, informative, interesting and really good value for money.
There is plenty of room to move about and the views are outstanding! You can choose to be in the covered area or be outside or both. There are beverages and snacks on board, but due to Covid-19 these are restricted. There are toilets on the boat but they are only for emergencies and remain locked unless required due to Covid-19.
The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. There is a running commentary for most of the trip, not only talking about Loch Ness but also about Urquhart Castle, the Caledonian Canal and surrounding areas. There is a Sonar boat graph on display around the boat where you can see the depths of the Loch.
The boat is accessible for wheelchair users and disabled people as long as you inform them of your restrictions.
All in all a very worthwhile trip and would recommend this tour to anyone.

Great tour
We boarded the boat on time after being given some Covid advice and being able to see the handrails etc all being cleaned whilst docked. The guide was very informative and had a friendly voice. Again Covid guidelines were repeated and the assurance that if the view was not on our side going it would be coming back. So no need to crowd other people on the boat.

The tour was well paced, very informative and a bar was available for refreshments but we did not need that.

Two hours well spent, weather held and I would recommend.

Thank you for your review, we're delighted to hear you enjoyed your trip with us and would recommend us. It is certainly challenging times for us all, but we're glad you found that all Covid-19 guidelines were being adhered to properly and that this did not affect your enjoyment of the trip.

Jacobite Cruise and Dochgarroch Lock
Sep 2020
This was a first class trip. The cafe at the dock is possibly the cleanest tourist attraction I have ever visited. Even the toilets are immaculate. They should be commended for their standards as many other tourist attractions we visited during our stay could learn a lot from here. The cruise itself was great. Roomy boat with plenty of hand sanitizer and ventilation in the inside cabin. Informative and funny narration along the way made it a great experience. Well worth the money. Highly recommend.

What a lovely review! We're absolutely delighted to hear you enjoyed every aspect of your visit to us, including your visit to An Talla which is kept in pristine condition by our lovely Carol. We try to ensure our customers receive a first class experience with us at all times, so it's great to hear that despite the measures we have had to put in place for Covid-19 it hasn't affected the overall enjoyment.

Fabulous day.
Sep 2019
Fabulous day out. The cruise was great, the boat was immaculate, the staff are helpful and friendly and the guide’s commentary was very informative about the area. The inside seating is very comfortable and you get great views but it’s really worth going out either at the front of the boat or onto the top deck. Refreshments are available on board. We were back at 1.30pm so had a lovely lunch in the centre. The menu offers a good variety of meals and there are also lovely cakes! To finish off, a bit of retail therapy is recommended in the shop. Would highly recommend.

Nice boat trip in Loch Ness
Aug 2019 • Family
Nice trip on a modern boat, the landscape is great and the people at the boat are very friendly.
The shop at the harbour is quite nice, with a cafeteria.
Wouldn’t repeat but it’s worth it, at least once, the trip around the Loch.

Jun 2019
A brand new boat - the Jacobite Maverick - smallish crowd, so plenty of seating and off we motored, down the Caledonian Canal, passed Dochfour House, Bona Lighthouse, Aldourie Castle and as far as Urquhart Castle. The boat was very comfortable and smooth, the crew helpful and the narrator, interesting, informative and entertaining. It was also interesting to view Urquhart Castle from the water, after having seen the other side on land.
The history and legend of Loch Ness is of course captivating, as are the pure statistics relating to the Loch's own geography. Part cynic I am though, I do wonder how 'they' have kept the mystery of "Nessie" going for so long. However, 'they' have done it and it keeps the tourists coming.
Generally, there is not a lot to see and of course, you have to return the same way, but it is the legend and the mystique of the Loch that gets you in. A worthwhile cruise, to say that you have done it.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your wonderful review. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your tour with us. Loch Ness certainly is beautiful, that's a shame Nessie didn't show face, she's still a bit upset after being called an eel ;) Thank you for cruising with Loch Ness by Jacobite, we hope we can welcome you back again in the future.
