- davidgK7987TI0 contributionsamazing! Nicolas was great!Nicolas was great! The communication before the trip and even after my tour finished was exceptional. Really helpful with tips. I was travelling alone and he made sure we saw all the things I wanted despite only one day. He showed me Taipei as a local and I didn’t have to worry about anything. Totally recommend him as a tour guide and I would love to come back.Written September 11, 2024

It was extremely hot and he supplied us with water umbrellas and fans. I would highly recommend this tour as you can custom it to want you want to see.Written September 10, 2024
- norbertc4890 contributionsCan't Miss Local ExperienceAn unforgettable experience. Paul was a fantastic guide, with a wealth of insight on everything from historical artifacts at the museum, to cultural anecdotes at the temples and national history sights, to walking me through the can't-miss highlights at the street market. While you could see all of these beautiful sites yourself, you can't replicate the local perspective. Paul was professional, friendly, patient, funny - and such a great driver! A fantastic experience all around, cannot recommend him enough!Written September 10, 2024
- jjttll0 contributionsJimmy the perfect YOLO Taiwan tour guideWe had an amazing full day private custom tour in Taipei. We saw so many sights!!! National palace museum, martyrs shrine, grand central hotel, the hot springs and sitting chatting with the locals, fort st Domingo, academy of Confucius building and Baoan Daoist temple. The tour guide Jimmy was just perfect, so professional, informative, kind, funny, thoughtful and interested to hear about us and our travels. He was so kind in speaking mandarin with my daughter who is learning Chinese at University. It was so lovely to see her chat in Mandarin. Jimmy was just so lovely, very encouraging and teaching her a lot. This really made our trip. He even showed us the local universities where my daughter may do a student exchange at. He was just a lovely person and really wanted us to have the best day. And we did. The perfect day in Taipei. Jimmy drove us all over the city, moving his car at numerous intervals so that we didn’t have to walk far in the 35 degree heat, what a gentleman. 100% recommend this tour and hope you get Jimmy as the guide. We will definitely book with YOLO Taiwan tours again.Written September 7, 2024
- 505alxl0 contributionsGreat tour, thank you Paul!We had an incredible day exploring northern Taiwan on a private tour. The pace was perfect — efficient without feeling rushed at any of the scenic spots. Opting for the 12 PM departure allowed us to end the day with a lovely dinner in Jiufen, where we enjoyed a beautiful view of the sea and mountains from the restaurant. Paul Yang was our guide, and he truly enhanced the experience. His patience stood out, giving us extra time whenever needed, he also captured fantastic photos at the best locations. His knowledge of Jiufen's best routes and hidden shortcuts was greatly appreciated. As someone prone to carsickness, I really appreciated Paul's smooth driving and comfortable vehicle, making the journey even more enjoyable. Would definitely recommend the tour & Paul.Written September 5, 2024

Our guide, Hicks, was fantastic and tailored the experience perfectly to our interests. We were particularly impressed with his ability to incorporate a spontaneous food tour into our itinerary, introducing us to some truly unique local flavors. It was a memorable way to experience the city in a limited amount of time.Written September 1, 2024

- smerritt160 contributions10/10! If you’re even thinking about it, book!Nicolas Ying is the best tour guide hands down! He will take you to the best places and can share a lot about his country. He is very friendly and accommodating. We never felt rushed but stayed on schedule the whole day. He is both a great driver and great tour guide. He knew all the best routes to walk around and park. Without us asking, he even held an umbrella over our heads while we photographed the changing of the guards. We enjoyed our time so much day one that we planned another custom tour for the next day. He knew I loved Sanrio and took us to the 7/11 Sanrio crossover. He really goes above and beyond. He even took great photos of us throughout our time visiting and recommended yummy foods. He knows all the foodie spots to go! Highly recommend that you book!Written August 15, 2024

He brought such a positive energy, always smiling and creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Nicolas provided detailed explanations about the history and culture of the place, helping me gain a deeper understanding of the destination. Even though I only chose a 6-hour tour, with Nicolas's skillful arrangement, I had the opportunity to fully experience the trip and enjoy the delicious local food and drinks. We really enjoyed our time in Shifen, Jiufen, at lunch, and at the additional waterfall.
The views of the Shifen waterfall were fabulous, and paired well with the following sky lantern activity. We got a timely start, beating some of the crowds at Shifen, which was a plus!
During our time at Jiufen, Tim, our guide, showed us a temple and explained some of the worship practices there. He was knowledgeable about history of the area as well, and regarding local / traditional snacks / food / tea recommendations. Overall, Tim was a knowledgeable and pleasant guide. Having Tim as a guide, driver, and translator (English - Chinese) was very helpful.
This tour enriched our experience in the area and I would recommend this to others considering a day trip or half-day trip from Taipei to beautiful areas nearby on the North Coast!

We traveled to Taipei with family ranging in age from 15 to 90 and we wanted to venture outside the city. This 6-hour tour fit our schedule and was jam-packed with activities. The Pingxi sky lantern experience is unique and was a family favorite. For the older members in our group, the Shifen Waterfall hike was a bit challenging with the heat and humidity, however Bubble, our amazing tour guide, planned ahead and we were able to borrow wheelchairs to get them easily to the falls and back. The sunset and lanterns at Jiufen were beautiful. It was very crowded so our only regret is not visiting during the week (less busy) and we also wish we had more time there to explore the many shops and food stalls. If you haven't visited before, we highly recommend this tour.

After visiting a few cities, we were delighted to do a tour around the countryside. TED, our guide was fantastic. He brought us to a great restaurant and even served us!
I was so surprised with the beauty of Taiwan, and so glad we got to see the countryside although I'm glad I wasn't driving as the roads are not for the faint hearted. From the amazing waterfalls to the fabulous mountain and sea views, we were all in awe of those hidden gem of a country, which Ted was able to display so well.
The lantern experience was amazing and quite emotional really.
Ted was able to give us advice on what and where was the best to buy in the local street market.
He had a great understanding of the English language and he told us all about Taiwan's history, culture and traditions.
Highly highly recommend this tour, Ted our tour guide and Taiwan itself which has so much more to offer such as beautiful beaches and hot springs which we did not get to explore but will when we come back to visit again.

Nicolas Ying was an incredible tour guide!! He took tons of photos and pointed out the best spots to capture memories, shared so much local history, and made the day so comfortable and well-paced. He also helped me try many local foods - I really enjoyed the tea ceremony and the local bites along Jiuffen old street. I took this tour with him solo and am so glad I had someone to guide me around, park close to each activity, and share the significance. He even had a couple hidden gems in there! I loved doing the 8am departure as we got to many spots before they got crowded and I got to really enjoy the experience. Well worth the tour, and be sure to book with Nicolas!

This was an amazing tour, made even better by our wonderful tour guide Hicks Wang.
We took the afternoon tour and we were not disappointed. We started of at the Shifen Waterfall, which the locals refer to as Little Niagra, an apt name, in my view. There are quite a lot of stairs, although in small bursts, and a decent amount of walking, but well worth the effort if you think you can manage.
We then took a short trip to the Pingxi Sky Lantern to join many others having a great time. We painted our messages/wishes on all sides of the lantern, which was much larger than we had imagined. It was then fired up with us holding the sides and then we watched it lift into the sky. Great fun.
We then drove up the mountain to Jiufen which was the best part of the tour. By the time we reach Jiufen it was nightfall, and this is why we were glad to take the afternoon tour. This place is gorgeous at night, with all the lanterns lighting up the streets and alleys. So much atmosphere.
We absolutely loved this trip and would recommend it, and Hicks Wang, to anyone coming to Taipei.

The locations visited were as described in numerous reviews elsewhere, but Paul who was our driver and guide made this tour a great one. He was chatty , informative and entertaining with an in-car entertainment system that will keep any fan of 80s and 90s MTV happy. I was with my young son and appreciated Paul’s safe, but still keeping us on time, driving style too. Thoroughly recommended.

We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the tour and especially the excellence of the tour guide, Hicks. He was very knowledgeable, personable and approachable. He provided an experience which will always be memorable. He was familiar with the area and made a stressful situation exploring a foreign country into an stress-free experience. At no time did he rush us, and listened to our requests when we wanted to experience local foods and helped us with the ordering and selection. Most memorable was his ability to select the locations to take photos together, which were, in our opinion, professional quality. If we could give our guide , Hicks, more than 5 stars, we would gladly do so.

Despite rain is pouring down hard on us. Mr Hicks Wong was very nice and excellent guide. He made sure that we still had a very good full experience. Amazing drive way by the sea, two colour sea and small niagra waterfall. Jiufen is definitely a dream, a pretty little town which is famous for spirited away anime inspiration. We got to taste the authentic Taiwanese cuisine too. Raising lantern with our wishes in rain on the train track is interesting too.

This experience was amazing. The waterfall was spectacular and the scenery everywhere was great. What made this trip such a great experience was our tour guide, Vincent. He gave us a lot of historical and relevant information all along the tour, was early picking us up from our hotel and made sure we got to where we needed to go. He also took well over 100 photos of us and he took excellent photos. He was not afraid to talk to people so we could better maneuver for the best pictures. Overall this tour is well worth the price.

We already recommended this trip to two more couples who are going to Taiwan. We just needed the ease of traveling to the places that are harder to get to. We also wanted a private tour because we are not very into huge group tours. Roger from YOLO Taiwan was so informative and prepared. When we were in Jiufen, he brought us to ALL the yummy places and authentic foods. We also had a fun time ending the trip with Pingxi. Afterwards, he even gave us some recommendations on where to eat and go to in Taipei. The trip felt tailored to us and we would highly recommend to everyone!
