This was our second tour with MyTaiwanTours. Our tour yesterday (Ultimate Taipei Tour) was great so we booked this tour. We had Jett Lai (?) for both tours and he is great.
The best part of having Jett as our guide was that he was able to give us great insight not only to the place we were visiting but also to the customs and opinions of the Taiwan people and also the history of the island.
Making and launching the lanterns was fun. We were there during the day. I expect that it would be even better at night time

A really great day trip! Our guide Jessie was super knowledgeable and friendly and spoke perfect English. The trip to each of the towns was very thorough with lots of chances for questions and photos and the sky lantern experience was really well organised! If I could give this tour more stars I would! The pick up at the hotel was also perfect with a WhatsApp message the day before to confirm all the details so that I was ready to go.

Kevin picked us up at our hotel with a big smile and a warm welcome to Taiwan. It was raining and Kevin was prepared with umbrellas for us. It rained the remainder of the day but Kevin kept us so entertained and informed that we almost forgot it was even raining. We had to alter our day some because of the rain but Kevin had many options for us and he was very flexible. We had the most enjoyable day! Kevin is a big asset to the company!

Very professionally organised tour. A wonderful experience, which offered so many unforgettable moments. An amazing ocean panorama, a busy Jiufen street walking, an overwhelming time at the QungYun Temple and - as hoped - a successful Sky Lantern highlight!
Bill, the tour guide, was a rich resource of information and a friendly host.

We took the one day tour visiting Jiufen and Sky Lantern experience. Our guide Kevin was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and exceptionally helpful. He was such a pleasure to talk with and share his experiences with Taiwan and the sites we visited. He even took photos of us and sent them after the tour was done, great photographer! We highly recommend MyTaiwanTour and especially Kevin. Thank you for making our travels a memorable one!

We have visited to Shifen and Jiufen at the same day on March 2018. We just went there by public transport. We started our journey from 11:30 am from Ximen and went to Taipei main station. From there take TRA to Ruifen station and from there take Pinxi small line and went to Shifen first. After explore the romantic views of Shifen went back to Ruifen with the train and from Ruifen station we took public transport bus and went to Juifen. Once you alight at Ruifen station you can see the bus no which can reach to Juifen Old Street. From Juifen we took bus no 1062 and went back to Taipei. Please note that there will be very long Q to take the bus no 1062.

An excellent tour to Pingxi and Jiufen with the opportunity to assemble, write on, and launch a Sky Lantern on the famous train line.
It was an amazing experience from start to finish, Lucy arrived at the hotel on time and as a small group we had a luxury mini bus to take us around the different locations. There was complimentary water and Lucy provided many facts and historical observations en route.
There were several different stops at the locations you will see in the many photos other visitors have uploaded. Plenty of time for photos, history, and interesting background like how to tell the difference between Buddhism and Taoism temples.
In Jiufen (the inspiration for the film, Spirited Away) you are left for just over an hour for lunch and to explore the little stores down the side roads. This was just enough time for our group. We walked up the long staircase to just under the Elementary School where we had Pork Buns and Dumplings at a great restaurant with a small balcony overlooking the stairs (photo attached), the staff spoke English and there was a mixed language menu board.
The final highlight was to be able to actually make the Sky Lantern at a shop which have been doing this for many, many, years. After you have launched your lantern, there is the chance to explore the village along the train line, and the old bridge at the far end near the station. The shop staff were really friendly and had a real love for what they were doing.
Lucy is a true advocate of Taiwan, and as a seasoned traveller herself, has lots of great stories to tell. I fully recommend this trip, it worked well for me as a solo traveller too.

What a fantastic day out seeing the country side of the NE part of Taiwan. Mark our expert guide was excellent in his commentary and care of our small group tour (much nicer than the big group tours. Ample time to explore destinations. Nothing was hurried and even suggestions for local cuisine tasting was recommended and greatly appreciated. The Lantern experience was not on the top of my list but when encouraged by our leader Mark and the group we all made our own large paper lanterns, adorned them with blessings then set then free to the sky - a serene experience with expert assistance - so no one was burned nor any failure to launch in our group (saw one next to us and it was not pleasant). Mark took group photos then sent to our emails - excellent service and a wonderful guide. HIghly recommend this trip.

Phoebe was our guide and she had a trainee, Diane, who came along and was helpful herding the tourists.
They picked us at the hotel, precisely on time. The short bus was clean and comfortable. Phoebe had plenty of bottled water on board. She was very enthusiastic, telling of the agenda and descriptions and history at each point. Very approachable, she answered all our questions. There were 8 of us on the tour - all from the US.
First stop was a view of the abandon mining center north east of Taipei- apparently the pollution from the now defunct mines causes a unique divide on the bay, then a golden shimmer on both local waterfalls and river! The actual mine is now too toxic to go into! We went further into the mountains, and visited a temple (very lovely), then onto The Old Town street - a semi-inside set of food and trinket shops that seemed to go on forever. Thick with people and smells we had some great food there and bought the majority of our trip souvenirs there. To get back to the bus, we had to climb down what seemed like 1000 steep stairs (not for the faint of heart - and I was the one who was the least physically fit). Apparently, Phoebe and this tour saves tourists from having to climb UP these stairs to get into the Old Town. We stayed in this area a couple of hours
The last stop was the lantern ceremony. This is a very popular thing to do and there were lots of shops set up to make and launch the lanterns. Phoebe arranged for a shop and it was immediately ready for us to assemble the lanterns. The launch site is right on live commuter rail tracks so everyone scrambles when the train comes. There are two people to a lantern. Phoebe was a master at getting photos and videos of this whole process with our individual cell cameras- greatly appreciated. Our video of launching the lantern was a highlight of our trip - and already viewed many times.
Overall - a wonderful day trip exposing us to Taiwanese culture out of the city.
Negatives - It is brutally hot. Unbelievably hot and humid there. The tour has a fair amount of walking (including those 1000 steps). If you at all have bad knees, hips, back - you are probably not going to be happy. I was definitely the slowest one on my tour and my face was dripping with sweat every time I went outside the air conditioning. Drink as much water as possible. Not much you can do about the climate.
