We travelled with our two daughters and our guide was patient and thoughtful! He was extremely knowledgeable regarding gorillas and chimpanzees. He had extensive experience and was always willing to share! I am already planning our next trip! We saw both gorillas and chimpanzees and both were amazing! - turnitup0 contributionsAmazing Gorilla Trekking and Murchison Falls Safari.Arrived in Entebbe to be greeted by our guide Chris ( Gorilla Boy). Spent the night in a beautiful bed and breakfast Via Via. The following day we flew to Murchison Falls with Chris. Accommodations were beautiful. The following day we experienced a great game drive in which we saw Lion, Leopard, Elephants and numerous other animals. This was my fourth trip to Africa. Second to East Africa. The following day Murchison Falls. Oh my! AMAZING! Make sure you stay for at least an hour. A natural wonder. Off to Biwindi for some Gorilla trekking. This was my second experience in Uganda. It’s a hour and a half drive up the mountain for accommodations. Beautiful scenery. Uganda is incredibly clean and friendly people. Chris was amazing. His knowledge of the mountains and areas made for an excellent experience. The trip was incredible, flawless and full of adventure that my wife Carolyn and I will never forget. Memories for a lifetime. Thank you Chris, we will definitely be back. Your friends, Roger and Carolyn FroehlichWritten June 15, 2024
- SabrineD170 contributionsBeautiful trip to the Pearl of AfricaWe did a 3 week Uganda tour with guide Chris gorilla boy by our side. We had a lovely stay and are very happy how Katona arranged our trip. Chris was very friendly and told us numerous facts and stories about Uganda. We felt very safe in the company of Chris, even more so because he basically speaks every local language there is in Uganda and knows a lot of rangers and colleagues in the Tourism sector. Would definitely recommend a trip with Chris!Written May 21, 2024
- mariajesusf7810 contributions7 day road trip Uganda-RwandaWe did a 7 day tour through Uganda and Rwanda, including gorila tracking, chimpanzee tracking, lake Miranda, lake Kivu. Chris the gorila boy was our guide, couldn’t have been better, very flexible to our needs, a fun trip companion, easygoing, good driver, and well organized. Amazing countries and views! The only issue was that none of the original acomodations matched with where we ended up staying, which was a surprise since they didn’t inform us on time. Of course Chris had no idea and only followed the itinerary. Would definetely recommend!Written March 23, 2024
- mfrye60 contributionsGame drives, trekking, and so much moreI actually did a 12 day tour with this company and Kennerh was our guide. It was myself and my niece Jessica who went. I was blown away at how incredible this experience was. Kenneth was amazing and went out of his way to make sure we experienced everything. We saw the big 5 many times over, we were so lucky with our trip and were so glad to be partnered with Kenneth on this once in a life time experience. Jackie who arranged everything was also great. We kept changing things around and she helped us plan everything without complaint. We also went chimpanzee and gorilla trekking. All I can say is WOW. I'm telling you, this is the company you should hire for your safari in uganda. What a truly magical time. I will never forget my time in beautiful uganda. Thank youWritten March 5, 2024
- nbbingham0 contributionsExperience of a lifetime!Due to some last minute changes in our travel plans, we found ourselves weeks out from coming to Uganada without any preparation. We knew we wanted to see as much as possible and that Gorillas were an absolute must. It was important to me to support local business but we were also on a bit of budget. We were very happy to find Katona tours. Booking was easy as Jackie was very response via Facebook messenger. Within a week we had made our booking for a 7 day trip with chimps and gorillas, game drives and more. On our first day (which was a very long driving day!) we met our guide and driver, Chris. He shared the best stories about his experiences and his knowledge of this area. He seems to know everyone and speaks almost every local language which meant we never had an issue bargaining for the best price on bananas (haha). His connections with other people in the industry meant we were one of the first trucks to reach lions (with babies!) on our game drive. His eagle-eyes also meant he spotted leopards, lions sleeping in trees, and hyenas (all on our bucket list and rare to spot). His background in conservation and working with Gorilla researchers also meant that every question we could ever think of had a solid answer. Overall, we were incredibly impresssed with the quality of tour thanks to Chris. Due to loving our trip so much with Chris and Katona, we ended up extending our trip for an additional week, going to Rawanda and up north in Uganada. Another big thank you to Jackie to putting up with our constant questions about extensions, and prices. Our accomodation booked via Katona has exceeded our expectations. We had booked midrange for our first 7 days (which was a stretch for us but decided to treat ourselves) and we were not disappointed. The views, food and staff were so awesome! For our extension we decided to go budget to save some money, but I secretly believe that due to the slow season, they upgraded us as there is no way these accomodations have been ‘budget’ - at least not by my previous experiences. I apologise for the long review but I wanted to really highlight how wonderful our time has been. I know it wouldn’t have been the same without the help of Katona, and definitely our guide, Chris. Overall I highly recommend this company and if you get Chris as your guide, you are in for a real treat!! Ps - a great time get a feel for Uganada and the tours offered, follow Katona tours @katonatours and our amazing guide, Chris @chris_gorillaboy on Instagram. I know it helped us solidify our decision.Written November 29, 2023

I could never imagined a more perfect experience! Celebrating my 60th Birthday trekking for Gorillas was monumental. Our time trekking Volacanoes National Park to spend time with an amazing family of Gorillas was SURREAL and EM0TIONAL: majestic, powerful and gorgeous specimens. Katona Tours (Jacqueline) made this experince happen thru great communication and molding the tour to our needs. Every step of the way from providing pickup service from Kigali to our road journey and lodge stay. The assistance and direction of Kenneth one of our guides was priceless. Kenneth was forthcoming with great historical, cultural and geographical information that gave our group of 3 a much clearer respect for our surroundings. The kindness and service at our Lodge created an environment that allowed us to not focus on anything but our intended experiences. Our trekking guide Dr G created a very safe and actully fun trek up the mountain. We were instructed on the respect/protocals for existing in the Gorillas habitat and felt very much a part of their daily experice. Thank You Katona Tour and Travel!

I booked a Gorilla Trekking tour on short notice, and immediately after confirming the reservation, Jackie reached out to assist me in obtaining the gorilla trekking permit. She coordinated with the guide, Chris (affectionately known as Gorilla Boy), and confirmed that he would pick me up around 4:30 am. On the day of the trekking event, Chris arrived at 4:30 am and gave me a call to inform me that he was waiting in the hotel parking lot.
During the journey to the park, Chris provided me with informative details about the park, including information about the four volcanoes in the area and other safari trips available to me. Upon reaching the main area, we enjoyed cakes and coffee at the orientation center, where I was introduced to my trekking group, trackers/rangers, and fellow gorilla trekkers.
The hike was somewhat technical but not overly challenging. Fortunately, it did not rain that day, and despite being in the jungle, I didn't get bitten by any bugs. The guides, including Chris, were patient with all trekkers, irrespective of their fitness levels, and we took frequent breaks to refuel, hydrate, and catch our breath. Before reaching the gorillas, the rangers educated us on how to behave in the presence of the gorillas to ensure our safety and respect for the animals. We spent approximately 1 hour with the Gorillas and took many photos of the silverback, babies and the rest of the troop.
On the way back to the hotel, we had lunch at a fantastic restaurant in Musanze, concluding the trip on a high note.

I was travelling to Kigali for work, but I also wanted to experience the country. Upon doing my research, I stumbled across Katona tours and travel. When doing the booking, I would recommend every at least European person to just trust the process. Pretty much everything was handled on WhatsApp, which made the contact really easy.
The journey itself was wonderful and I had such an amazing experience, which I will always remember. My drivers, Adam and Daniel were extremely kind, happy and cool. I would recommend this journey to everyone looking for an authentic, but super impressive experience. Thank you for giving me this exclusive memory!!!
*Please just wear hiking equipment, other than sneakers and jeans. Quite an easy fix actually...

I had an awesome experience with Katona Tours for a one day gorilla trek in Rwanda at Volcanoes National Park and one day safari in Akagera National Park. Jackie was so quick to respond and helpful with all my questions and Kenneth my guide was really great and knowledgeable. Kenneth previously worked as a park ranger with gorillas in Uganda so you likely won’t find a better guide for gorilla trekking anywhere. He provided me with a ton of knowledge about gorillas, Rwanda, and East Africa both before and after my trek. I tracked the Kwitonda gorilla group at Kenneth’s recommendation and they were a unique and rewarding group to track that offered just the right amount of challenge to get to. I had an amazing time viewing the gorillas as the pictures show. Then the next day we went to the other end of Rwanda to see Akagera National Park where I saw lots of elephants, giraffes, zebra, and much more. It was a truly unforgettable experience throughout both of my tours with Katona.

Very well organized, the agency guide was on time and very kind. I made the tour on the Karisimbi mount and visited the biggest family group of gorilla. Amazing views, very touchy and took a lot of photos. Absolutely recommended! Necessary to have good hiking shoes or even plastic boots for the mud!

This was the trip of a lifetime! We got to hike through the jungle and see so many animals in their natural habitat. Roland was an incredible guide. Very patient and tailored the activities to meet the wants of our group. He went above and beyond to make sure we had the most comfortable and fun trip! Can’t wait to go on another trip with him next year!

I used Katona tours for both a one day gorilla trekking experience and a one day Akagera experience and without question would use them again. Communication is quick and clear, planning and documentation is very easy, and they help you plan and pack appropriately.
I requested Kenneth as a guide after reading other reviews and he exceeded expectations! He was on time each morning, is extremely friendly and welcoming, and best of all has so much knowledge about the parks and animals from his previous experience as a ranger in the park.
The volcanoes national park was amazing and i was able to see a family of 22 gorillas up close and personal. I was cared for and felt safe during the entire experience. In Akagera we were able to see two leopards, elephants, rhinos, water buffalo, hippos, giraffes, zebras, and lots more animals. Kenneth was great at spotting animals all around the park and getting in perfect position for us to take pictures and see them well.
If i ever go back to Rwanda i will absolutely be using Katona tours and Kenneth for another amazing experience.
