          Enthusiasm to the sky!
I went on a birdwatching tour to Dzibanche ruins with Victor and I must say WAUW! He made the day really special for everyone. Rarely have I seen such enthusiasm, knowledge and professionalism combined. We got a lot of knowledge about the Mayan culture and history while seeing seemingly endless amounts of colorful birds with Victors binoculars. Highly recommended and I will not hesitate to go on another tour with him next time around. Thank you Vic!

Amazing bird watching tour with Victor!
Highly recommend a bird watching tour with Victor! We had a fantastic time birding near Bacalar! Victor identified several birds including the Squirrel Cuckoo, Yellow-lored Parrot, and Black-headed Trogon. He took us to some great bird watching spots and we learned a lot about the different birds in the Yucatan. Victor loves photography and sent us some photos of some of the birds we saw (see photos). We had a wonderful time learning about endemic birds, some of his favourite bird watching spots, his culture, stories, and love for nature and protecting it including turtles and jaguars. We would book a tour with Victor again in a heartbeat! Thank you for all the laughs, your passion for nature and wildlife, and for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us! 😊

          Amazing experience of the region
We had an amazing experience with Victor as our guide. The Mayan ruïnes in the jungle were beautiful and we could clime them. We saw a lot of birds such as toekans and also some monkeys! We were the only tourists there. We were offered fresh fruits, nuts and water after. Would definitely recommend!

          The best connection with nature
One of the best adventures of my life, I’ve never felt so apart of the landscape and in step with nature than I did here in dzibanche . These ruins have this energy about them that I really could not understand until Victor so knowledgeably explained the history and the culture from the jungle floor to the tops of the temples. And even spotting a family of spider monkeys and tons of different birds along the journey . Thank you so much for such an incredible experience

          Bringing the Mayan ruins alive
Visiting Dzibanche with Victor was a highlight of our vacation. He brings alive the Mayan ruins with his knowledge of history, stories and teachings about the flora and fauna. This was our second tour with Victor, because his passion and knowledge for the history and nature of Mexico is evident in everything he does and makes him the best in the business.

          Lots of birds, amazing ruins
Victor is the best guide ever! He took us to ruins of Kolunich for a birding tour and we saw over 30 species and learned an amazing amount about the Maya and this site as well. His expertise and enthusiasm for both were unparalleled. Truly a memorable experience and highlight of our Yucatán travels.

          An amazing wonderful tour!
I had a wonderful, exciting time on the tour along the way and at the Kohunlich Mayan ruins! Victor, die guide, is extremely knowledgable and loves his work! He tries to fulfill every wish! Skillfully by imitating the call he lures the birds closer! He makes a list of the sightings of the different species that you get! In Kohunlich, a wonderful area of impressing ruins, you can still hear interessting things about the Mayas and their buildings! I can only recommend this tour! For all nature lovers, and those who might want to become one an absolute "have to do" when staying near or in Bacalar!

beautiful kayak tour in the mangrove swamp
I thank Mahahual Ecotours for the opportunity to meet someone who really enjoys what he does: Victor Rosales. His life story, knowledge of ornithology, universal history and particularly of the Mayan culture, nurtured this beautiful kayak tour in the mangrove swamp!!! Definitively, the conservation work that Victor does with the jaguar in the region, the nesting of turtles and the mangrove fauna deserve recognition and support.

          Bacalar Laguna Adventure
My wife and our daughter and myself visited Bacalar Laguna with Victor Rosales of Bacalar Ecotours and had a wonderful time. Victor along with our captain, Edwin of Bacalar Day Tours had a wealth of knowledge of the Laguna as well as surrounding community. Victor also has an amazing amount of history and environmental knowledge to share with makes the adventure even more rewarding. The colors of the Laguna is spectacular especially while enjoying a fantastic BBQ by Edwin! This is an experience that shouldn't be missed if you're in the area!

          Amazing experience
Victor is awesome! So knowledgeable both of the natural wonders of Quintana Roo and the deep history of the Mayan people. He led us right to some epic bird sightings including a toucan, a xxx, and my favorite, the Montezuma Oropendola. We originally scheduled a one day trip but were lucky to catch Victor on a slower week so we added a second day. You like to take and see epic photos? Victors got them. You like learning about local ecology and history, Victor has you covered. Can’t recommend more highly.

          Great birdwatching guide
Victor took us on two birdwatching tours during our vacation in Bacalar. We are active birders and he was an excellent guide for us. He has an extensive knowledge of the birds of the Yucatan and can identify them by call and by sight. He has worked with local landowners to find great sites for seeing many different bird species and he didn’t stop until we had completed an outstanding day of birdwatching (59 different species seen over the two days with him including 31 lifelisters). He tried hard to find birds of particular interest for us. As a bonus he was also able to describe the history of the Mayan archeological sites when we visited them as part of the tour. Added to all this he is a great person and was great for beginners and experts (some of our party were birding for the first time). An outstanding experience and we definitely want to meet up with him again for more birding next time we are in the area

          Kayaking through the mangroves
I’ve been traveling to the Mahahual area since 2005 and began to hear great things about Victor several years ago but never found the time to contact him for a tour. My loss. This time I determined to do differently. I set up a kayaking trip through the mangroves for my partner and myself. From beginning to end, the experience was great. Victor is a conservationist and lover of nature. It is clear that he has a deep respect for this environment, including the flora and fauna and waterways, as well as the wildlife. He is determined to find ways which allow people and animals to live in harmony with this beautiful but fragile environment. We were picked up at 8 am and drove to a site just south of the Sian Kaan biosphere, we were introduced to a family that makes their living fishing. Here Victor showed us how coconut is harvested and how every part of the fruit is used — as food, drink, for cooking and heating. From there we went to an entry point in the nearby lagoon and paddled through the water and the canals. As we did so Victor explained about the ecosystem we were traveling through. He’s a terrific teacher — he has a great sense of humor and speaks excellent English. We later returned to the family we had met previously and they served us a feast of a lunch — fresh fish in a tasty sauce with coconut rice. It was my partner’s 65th birthday and Victor even brought out pieces of cake for us. It was perfect. All the while we asked questions about his conservation work. His knowledge of history is also excellent, and his own story is an interesting one. If you want an adventure with someone truly simpatico, I highly recommend that you call Victor. You can’t go wrong.

Victor's dry humour is hilarious and his storytelling ability really gives life to the ancient peoples who inhabited the ruins around Bacalar. Each one is different but you're sure to see beautiful birds and maybe even hear Victor's impression of a howler monkey while you learn about this rich history. Loved every moment :)

This was our third tour of Maya ruins during our Yucatan & Quintana Roo trip and by far the best! We already learned more on the drive to and from the ruins about Mexico, its wildlife, politics, and nature conservation than on our entire stay otherwise. Victor picked us up from our hotel at 6:30 AM and we drove an hour to Dzibanché, which is a ruin that’s currently rebuilt and will likely soon face a huge increase in visitor numbers. We had the whole area to ourselves, we climbed the ruins and admired the view while Victor told us about the history and Mayan culture. The whole time, he kept one eye on wildlife around us - we saw a monkey and a huge amount of different birds (including Toucans!). Victor had an amazing sense for where the birds are and was able to attract many of them so we could admire them through binoculars or take pictures. We can wholeheartedly recommend the experience to everyone - birder or no!

This is a one in a lifetime experience! The energy of this place is so special and we could not ask for a better guide. Victor is more than knowledgeable, he is passionate and it shows. The vast history of the Mayan jungle will live on for generations to come because of passionate people that care. I 10/10 recommend Victor. As others have noted there are people "blocking" the entrance to the ruins, by all means these are FRIENDLY people who want to be taken care of for passing on their land! Please respect the locals as this is more than a tour destination for them, this is their home, their land, their history, their culture and their legacy.

Our trip to Dzibanche with Victor was awesome! Not only does he know a lot about the Mayan culture and architecture, he also showed us a lot of wildlife like special birds, spider monkeys and even a fox. He took his time to explain more about the Mayas and gave us a lot of background information. Afterwards we went for a great lunch in a cozy family restaurant. I really recommend going on a tour with him!

This was my absolute favorite thing I did in Bacalar. Victor is incredibly knowledgeable in both history and ecology, so it was a really special experience to do this tour with him. Since Dzibaniche and Kinichna are some of the less popular sites for tourists, we got the places to ourselves. Victor's visual aids really helped to put into context what each structure would have looked like when the stucco and paint were still intact. We saw spider monkeys at one spot, and spent some time birdwatching on top of one of the structures, which was very cool. We stopped for barbacoa on the way back to Bacalar and he showed me some of his beautiful wildlife photography. This is 1000x better than megabus tour because it's very personal and Victor is both a local and an expert in the subjects related to this whole experience. I can't recommend this highly enough!

We are very happy to read this wonderful review that is fuel to keep working hard to deliver a better service to make sure everyone is happy at the end of the day. We are so lucky to have so many beautiful archeological sites close to Bacalar and that many people don't visit which makes it very special. Thanks again for such a nice review. What a wonderful experience! Victor is incredibly knowledgeable, passionate and kind. I enjoyed how personal the tour was and how much history he shared. We saw ruins, monkeys, jungle and had a delicious lunch. There was also binoculars for us to use and he happily took our pictures. If I ever want to see another part of Mexico (or Belize or Guatemala!) I will definitely ask Victor to guide me!

This tour was so fun and exceeded all of our expectations! Victor is extremely knowledgeable about every topic, if we asked a question or pointed at anything along the road he knew everything about it and more. He's not only an expert in Mayan history but also an expert in ecology and is really passionate about conservation. We learned so much about the local environmental issues that we would not have known otherwise. He is an all around awesome person and it felt like were we on a tour with a friend! We visited the Dzibanche site which was not too busy. Victor provided great visual aids and examples during the tour and even had personal experiences which made the tour super unique. He even let us borrow binoculars so we could see some birds and the howling monkeys up in the trees! To top it all off we went to lunch at the most delicious spot on the way back to Bacalar. It was definitely one of our favorite meals on our trip. Thanks Victor! Hope we can visit again soon!
