- KCS6170 contributionsAn Unforgettable day. This was one of the highlights of our trip from southern Burgundy to Bandol. Our host was so informative, very funny, friendly, and could not have been better. The small bites after the hint were delicious! - jeffreywJ503WX0 contributionsMust-do trip for anyone interested in trufflesOur truffle hunting excursion was awesome! Our guide was outstanding — well informed, entertaining, and funny. Learned a lot about truffles. Very educational. The hunt itself was fun, and the dogs were adorable. Got to hold a bunch of truffles that were found. Then we had a multi-course truffle feast. Delicious! So good, that we want to get on their mailing list for annual black truffle purchases each January. I highly recommend this experience. Well worth it. You will not be disappointed and will be delighted to share your story with friends and family. An experience of a lifetime. Bravo!Written September 20, 2024

- E7049AJmattd0 contributionsThe best way to experience ProvenceThis is our second time visiting Les Pastras. We did a truffle hunt ten years ago and adopted a truffle tree for our parent's 50th anniversary. We just returned after 10 years to see the tree and visit with Johann and his lovely wife. There is nothing I can say to share the true joy it was to see them again and experience the French countryside with on this provincial farm with grape vines, olive groves and truffle oaks. the views are amazing and the food is superb. They are so much fun to talk to and learn from. This is a can't miss if you want to be welcomed into a home and feel like family. Best experience of our trip! Thanks!Written August 30, 2024
- MFP-Aix0 contributionsMust do! Don't missWe signed up for Truffle hunting. What is not to love- seeing cute dogs find and dig up truffle. But there was much more! Johann our host gave us a masterclass in truffles - history, how they are grown and different types. Then you follow the dogs as they searched for truffles. After that we all sat down to taste various truffle dishes. Yum! During our tasting we were educated on how to spot fresh truffles and how to buy truffles (including truffle olive oil and salt). Thank you Johann- a day we will not soon forget. Your knowledge was invaluable and delivered in an entertaining manner.Written August 23, 2024

- R5998MBlisac0 contributionsSuch a blastWe had a blast at this lesson. The leader is funny, helpful and encouraging in learning pétanque We all met at a park and were greeted and made to feel welcome and at ease regardless of our experience. The lesson was punctuated by sips of rose or pastis and snacks of their homemade tapenade and pate and mushrooms. One of highlights of our trip to Provence. Highly recommend!Written July 7, 2024
- SherryA2210 contributionsFun afternoon playing pétanqueWe attended the Pétanque Lesson in Provence event by Les Pastras in August 2023. What a wonderful experience! Johann and his team provided us with a fun afternoon learning about the history of pétanque and tips for playing while enjoying Provençal snacks, wine and home made pastis. - Maddcheff0 contributionsBest Culinary ExperienceThis was one of the best culinary experiences we have ever had!!! My husband is a chef and it was a must-do tour. I was going for the experience to learn and of course the dogs. I have never liked the taste of truffles so I wasn't expecting to absolutely love the freshly shaved truffes that we were so generously served. Johan is very funny and a wonderful host. He is informative, smart, engaging, and kind. He is full of passion and we respect the hard work that he and his team do. Kudos to all of you and thank you so much for this experience that we will always remember!Written September 20, 2023

My partner and I had an absolutely amazing time searching for fossils and exploring the country side. Sadly the area had been experiencing a drought so everything was quite dry, but it didn’t stop us from having a great time. We were still able to find wild thyme and juniper which were so fragrant. We were even able to find plenty of fossils and even identified some teeth!
Afterwards we enjoyed the homemade Pastis, we only wish we were able to bring some home with us! The homemade pate was also quite delicious, it was my first time tasting pate and they didn’t disappoint.
John was a great conversationalist and even though our other guide didn’t speak much English, John did a great job of translating and making us all feel included in conversation. They really went out of their way to make my partner and I feel welcomed and we can’t emphasize enough just how much my partner and I really appreciated that. I will definitely be doing one of their other activities next time I visit the region, it was such a cool experience with really cool people.

It's always a treat to walk around on someone's private property, to see how different their back yard is from my own. On this hilly hike we saw fossils, wild thyme, goats and an ancient water source with the most crystal clear, delicious water. We were a group of family and friends ranging from age 18-77. Our mom's pretty spry, but she needed a little help on the steeper hills, partly because of the incline and partly because of the pebbles. Heed their advice to wear closed shoes and bring a hat. Jean-Marc, our guide, helped us find the fossils along the paths. It's incredible to hold something so old in your hands. Then we were rewarded with pate, rosé and Jean-Marc's homemade pastis, which was truly special. We brought some of that pastis all the way home to Chicago.
