        Great kayaking experience!
Masashi was a great guide, he showed us some really cool spots around the coastline including a cave! We were taught how to properly use the North American style kayak (we’ve never used one since we are from the UK) and learned a lot about the coastline too. Would definitely recommend.

        Perfect day
From pick up to drop off, everything went smoothly. The kayak tour checked off all the boxes; learned lots, saw great scenery, and enjoyed the right level of challenge for my kayaking ability. Masashi is an excellent guide and host. You will not be disappointed!

Awesome Kayak experience - a must do
From the first enquiry Masashi our tour guide was wonderful. He was extremely attentive throughout our whole tour. My husband and I took a 2 day overnight kayak. Masashi pick us up from our hotel in Shimoda and provided all the equipment we would need for the tour. We needed to rent a tent and sleeping bags from Masashi and the standard was high. He spoke English very well and enjoyed our humour. The information along the way was informative and the food prepared was delicious and plentiful. We both certainly recommend this tour. It was the highlight of our Japanese trip.

        Geo half day- recommend!
We did the geo half day tour and had a great time. Masashi was detailed with the explanation both in Japanese and English. He also used his phone to take photos of us and then sent to me straight away. Very helpful! We were able to see lots of geology and by the end of the tour I was able to recall how rocks had developed. Recommend!

        Awesome kayak experience!
My wife and I took the Geo tour and loved every minute of it. The guides were so friendly, informative, and welcoming. It was a fun way to learn about the local culture and the uniqueness of the Izu peninsula. They picked us up at our hotel in Shimoda, and brought us back at the end of the day, so we didn't even need a car. They explained everything to us in English. The scenery was incredibly beautiful, and we saw lots of creatures - different fish, eels, etc. they cooked a hot lunch for us on an isolated beach, took us through caves, and brought us into the nooks and crannies of the volcanic landscape. It was an unforgettable day. Highly recommended!

        Must-do Kayak Tour!
The tour operator, Masashi Takeda, offers several options, from a short introduction to sea kayaking all the way to 2-day tours for experienced paddlers...but his Geo Tour of the Izu Peninsula is a true "hidden gem" experience!!! The area is a Geopark, certified by Unesco (I think), because of its unique and amazing geology. We took the train from Tokyo to the Izukyu Shimoda station, then a quick cab ride to a hotel in Shimoda. The next morning, Masashi-san and his helper ("Roon", from Denmark) picked us up from the hotel and drove us to the launch location on the west side off the peninsula. There, Masashi-san gave us a short crash-course (in English, yay!) on the amazing formation of Izu Peninsula, then we jumped in the kayaks and paddled around to see the extremely interesting shoreline features, including unique exposed rock layers, lava formations, etc. We even got to paddle under arches and through beautiful caves, one of which featured bright orange coral polyps along the walls. SO FUN!!! At lunchtime, we pulled up on shore and Masashi-san assembled a little contraption on which he cooked up a meat/vegetable/noodle dish that was healthy and delicious. After lunch we spent a few minutes spotting sea creatures---we saw a little fugu (pufferfish), a tiger-striped eel, a fish with poisonous spines, etc...then hopped back in the kayaks for the return trip. Masashi-san has been doing tours like this for 13 years, so he's a knowledgeable and very friendly guide. He set an easy pace, so even though this tour was 6 hours long, the time flew by; we learned so much, and it was the highlight of our visit to Shimoda. Note: there is an English tab on the home page of his website, but the English page doesn't feature the Geo Tour. I saw it on the Japanese section, and when i emailed him to make the reservation, he was happy to set it up for us. I think the geology can easily get quite technical, but because we don't understand much Japanese, Masashi-san simplified his explanations into layman's English. It was easy to understand, and made the paddle so much more fun, learning amazing things (I won't tell you what they were, it would spoil the surprise!).

Fabulous experience on a full day paddle out on the sea with Masashi, some of the sea caves we entered were dark and narrow and required a bit of trust and encouragement, others were magical with the light shining through a glassy aqua sea. Being out in a rolling swell 50 meters from shore at times took some getting used to for me as it was out of my comfort zone and experience, however, Masashi was very encouraging and understanding of my hesitation which was something I just needed to overcome so I could enjoy the experience. I was so exulted that I did the trip and pushed myself. I did do plenty of paddling and weight training beforehand and was glad of it, the muscle strength in my back and arms was certainly up to the task from the preparation and this made me happy that I was strong enough physically to manage paddling the kayak for long distances and hours. We had a break for a drink and snack mid morning and a simple rice based lunchbox meal. Take plenty of water and a few quality snacks and eat a decent breakfast well before your day in the water. Thanks Masashi, it was fun challenging and unforgettable, keep smiling and enjoying life!
