- J587SFjudithb0 contributionsWe visited Cawdor castle, Colloden battlefield, Loch Ness etc.Our tour was thru Thistle Tours .Our amazing guide and driver was Chaz. He was a wealth of information at every site we visited.Written October 12, 2024
- U8696BBbarbarak0 contributionsVery well organized and we saw everything that was promised. We would use them again if we come back to ScotlandThis was one of most favorite tours we took on our recent British Isles Explorers Viking Cruise. We had a group of 11 friends and family and Thistle Excursions was just perfect. Very knowledgeable and friendly tour Guides - June and Maxine.Written September 21, 2024
- C7155VPjennifert0 contributionsBook this excursion!Had a great experience with Thistle Excursions. Once off the ship, the meeting point was easy to find and well organized! Our tour guide was great—>funny but knowledgeable, our motor coach was new so that was a bonus, the driver did well on narrow roads and delivered us safely! I was concerned about booking an excursion separately from the cruise sponsored excursions but it was really a great experience! Would highly recommend!Written September 20, 2024
- Ichschonwieder0 contributionsGreat Highland Tour with an Exceptional Guide! We had an amazing tour with a small group of six people, guided by the wonderful Mo. She picked us up right at the harbor entrance and later dropped us off there, making the whole experience seamless and stress-free. Mo was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing fascinating insights about Scotland, the Highlands, and each of the places we visited. She also answered every question we had, making the tour both informative and fun. We highly recommend Thistle Excursions to anyone looking for a memorable experience in Invergordon, especially when arriving with a cruise ship.Written September 19, 2024
- 125anneo0 contributionsVery interesting castle set in beautiful gardensIt was an easy and enjoyable drive from Inverness to visit this beautiful castle and gardens. The castle is very well maintained and the exhibits are an interesting insight into a family history through many centuries. The gardens are meticulously maintained with some beautiful sculptures placed at various points throughout. We had lunch at the cafe and it was delicious. I would particularly recommend the scones. The little village next to the castle is pretty and quaint. Well worth the drive.Written September 18, 2024
- Y3083IWpatrickd0 contributionsHigh fun in the highlandsWe had an excellent day with our tour guide, David. A custom tour for four of us let us choose how and where to spend our time, and never left us feeling rushed or harried. David was a font of local and historical knowledge and arranged some fun we specifically requested -- a visit to see some "highland coo" (cows). He also introduced us to Scottish Tablet (a dessert) and made sure we got good pictures with Nessie at the Loch. For a fun, relaxing, friendly experience it couldn't be beat. Highly recommended.Written September 18, 2024
- lisasL3449XB0 contributionsOutlander HighJune was a wonderful tour guide, gave us insight to local tales and took us places the large tour buses can’t go. She also found a local eatery with the best fish and chips we had in the BIE, and shopping for our grandkids.Written September 17, 2024
- cardiganweather17880 contributionsHighland StapleMike gave us an excellent tour of Inverness, Urquart Castle and Loch Ness. We learned a lot about local history and saw some incredible scenery. The car ride and Mike's personable nature really made the trip special. He was able to customize some of our stops based on requests and interests. All stops were timed perfectly to avoid crowds and the conversation was genuine rather than uncomfortably forced for 8 hours. Highly recommend this tour company and request Mike as your guide if you can.Written September 16, 2024

- KThrelkeld0 contributionsThistle Tours Every TimeThis was the best tour of our 14 day cruise. Mike was our Guide and he definitely did not disappoint. I will use Thistle Tours every chance I get in the future. They are so much better than Paddywagon. Although Brian our Paddywagon Guide was great, their bus was worn out and the worst and no refunds for a broken down bus. Choose Thistle Tours and request Mike. You will be glad you did!Written September 8, 2024
- Noswalmot0 contributionsDeaf and BlindThe microphone on the bus didn’t work. The backup that the guide had echoed so bad we couldn’t understand stand him. The places we visited were uninspiring. It was a waste of time and money.Written September 8, 2024

We enjoyed seeing Loch Ness, the stones at Clava Cairn, and the Highland coos. Mo explained in fascinating detail the historical significance of every site we visited.Written August 30, 2024

- tultraveler0 contributionsWell organized and informative!Excellent tour! Packed in a lot of history and tour guide Mo and driver Carol Ann were helpful and informative. We stayed on time.Written August 27, 2024
- UkuleleTone0 contributionsExcellent tour from cruise shipWe had a wonderful tour of the major sites when our cruise ship docked in Invergordon. There was just the two of us and Mo, our driver, was friendly, knowledgeable and went out of her way to accommodate us during our trip, including searching for craft-related activities not on the itinerary that we would be able to do. We highly recommend Thistle Excursions and would definitely use them again should we visit this part of Scotland in the future.Written August 26, 2024

We had a wonderful day trip yesterday with Thistle Excursions. Our guide was Morag ( Sarah ) and she was so nice and answered all of our questions throughout the day. We first started our day enroute to the Singeltin Distillery but on our way we stopped at Robertsons Farm and saw West Highland cows and sheep and lamas. Then arrived at Singelton after driving through some cute towns. This was our first whiskey tour ever and they did a great job and the tastings were great. We then drove along Loche Ness to the Urquhart Castle. This was very interesting to learn about. Afterwards we headed to Iverness and Morag drove us around all of the highlights of the city. It's definitely worth a visit as it is a very charming and historical town. After we had walked awhile in town we headed back to our cruise ship. Morag did a great job and we would definitely recommend her and Thistle Excursions to anyone stopping in Invergordon.

We were on a cruise, and the ship was not offering the tour we wanted, so I did some research and found the perfect tour with Thistle Excursions. We were visiting the Loch ness, we had time to shop in town to buy souvenirs, see cows and some historical remains, and we taste some whiskey. What more to ask!
Our guide was Moe, she was great and interesting, a real living encyclopedia about Scotland and also about the rest of the world! We were only 4 on our tour, so it was like a private tour without the price!
Before the trip, I contacted Thistle Excursions by email, as I wanted to plan something special for my girlfriend during our tour. Maxine, the owner, contacted me quickly and said that she would be very happy to help me with my request. I wanted to do a wedding proposal to my girlfriend. Maxine did a brainstorm with her team, and she came back to me with some amazing ideas. We agreed to do the proposal in front of Loch Ness while visiting the Urquhart Castle. I had a special request to have a bagpiper, she found me the best, and she made all the arrangements for me. She also offered to have a photograph to do a video and some pictures of the special moment. David, who is also a guide, was on a tour with another group, and he met us at the location and took nice pictures and a great video. The bagpiper name was Dougie. He was the real thing. Wearing his bagpiper uniform with his kilt. He was a real gentleman, and he played like a real master, some classics and some special demands. I made my proposal, and my girlfriend said YES! We went for lunch after, and Dougie played the bagpipe while we were eating and drinking champagne, which Maxine generously offered to us.
After this, we went to visit the Singleton distillery. It was really interesting, and it included a delicious tasting. In one day we really felt that we saw the best of what the Highlands have to offer while meeting with great local people.
Thank you, Maxine, Moe, David, and Dougie, for making my dream proposal come true and for the amazing moment we experienced because of all of you. Don’t be afraid to book a tour with them, even if you are on a cruise with limited time. They were waiting for us when the boat arrived, and they made sure that we were back on the boat with plenty of time before departure. We would book another tour with them, ANYTIME!

Took the tour in a 6-seater minibus which made the experiences much more personal for all of us. Rhona, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable about the area, its history and culture. She made frequent stops at photo opportunities and points of interested beyond just the highlights of the tour. One example was a lunch stop at a local village bakery where we purchased a very tasty lunch made to order on fresh baked rolls! The whisky tour was very impressive even though I myself am not a whiskey drinker. The castle and grounds are very impressive and the falconry display was well worth seeing. The weather made the trip to the gorge questionable, so the group decided to opt for a longer shopping period instead. All in all, an excellent experience. We would love to return to this area again for an extended visit someday.

We were a group of 6 (4 adults and 2 teenagers) and spent a day touring with June from Thistle Excursions. We arrived in Invergordon via a cruise ship. The directions for meeting June were easy to follow and we had no issues. We had an awesome time on this excursion. We went to the Black Rock Gorge of Harry Potter fame, Dunrobin Castle, and Clynelish Distillery. We enjoyed our time with June as she shared her knowledge of the area. June was very personable and kept everyone interested. CLynelish Distillery was very interesting even though none of the adults are whiskey drinkers -- it was a must-stop while in Scotland. They even had some refreshments set up for the teenagers who were underage and not able to participate in the tastings. Dunrobin Castle and the falconry demonstration were also a lot of fun. We would recommend June and Thistle Excursions.

Our tour guide June made our 8 hour tour fly by. The whiskey tour was fascinating. The Loche Ness location In conjunction with the castle destination was perfect. We enjoyed the variety of landscapes and June’s information of the history was great. Easy to locate tour off ship. Would definitely recommend .

My Parents and myself booked this tour and got greeted by David our Tour Guide for this day. When I asked him, how many people will be today, he told us it was just my parents and me. We were so surprised. Also, David spoke such a nice "Tourist-friendly" English, which made it easy for me to translate everything to my parents. Hidden spots in the forest, where no one else from our cruise ship had the chance to see, a wonderful castle and a great destillery - David designed a wonderful tour for us and was also such a good driver with so much information. This day was definitely one of the highlights of our whole cruise. Thank you David!

WE LOVED THIS TOUR COMPANY AND THIS TOUR!!!
Maxine, the owner, was always quick to respond and we were even treated to her personally coming to join us on one part of the tour. I felt like we were friends since we e-mailed so often, from the fact that we had them booked in May, 2020, when Covid cancelled everything, and we just kept moving the booking forward till we were finally able to take their tour in May 17, 2022!
Our guide for the day was David, and he was absolutely wonderful. There were a total of 4 of us on the tour, and I appreciate that they keep their tours very small.
So many highlights on this tour, but Dunrobin Castle was the thing we will remember forever followed by the beautiful Black Rock Gorge. Everything else was fantastic but those two sites were magical.
David was so knowledgeable and there was nothing we could ask that he couldn't answer. It was one of the best tours we have ever taken!
If we were going to Invergordon again, I would not hesitate to book another tour with Thistle tours!

There were only 6 of us so we were very lucky. Rhona, our friendly, knowledgeable guide and driver, picked us up in the cruise port. After a short visit to Dornoch we went to the Clynelish distillery where we spent 2 hours full of surprises. Alfie did an amazing presentation and showed us the distillery. We tasted several whiskies and we had so much fun!
We enjoyed Dunrobin castle (really worth a visit!) and the falcon show before returning to the ship. The landscape was beautiful
