  • Great choice for a first-time Tokyo visitor to learn about food and culture
What to expect
One of the best ways to experience a new city is to eat your way around it. This walking food tour of Shibuya is a foodie’s dream. Meet your guide at a pre-arranged spot near Shibuya station before escaping the usual tourist hot spots. Choose your departure time to suit your schedule. Avoid overpriced restaurants and instead, go to the side street haunts that locals love. As you hop between eateries, try all sorts of local favorites, such as takoyaki (octopus balls), Wagyu beef yakitori skewers, okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake), and lots of sushi. Wash the delicious food down with shochu (rice liquor) or Japanese beer. For those with a sweet tooth, there’s also dessert to try too. As well as the side streets, get to see a depachika (underground food hall)—another local favorite. This is a superb way to get a glimpse of Tokyo’s food culture from a local's perspective.

I believe his name was Sergio? Well, he was very informative. There were 5 of us and he led us on a short, easy walking tour through the area. Giving us information about the area, like the story behind the dog statue, and also giving helpful tips; look up! there are a lot of restaurants on the second floor of buildings that most people would miss if they didn't know to look for them. We went to 4 stops and we even got a green tea Kit Kat to try. The food was delicious and he was able to accommodate me, I do not eat beef so when the others were having beef he was able to get me chicken. Recommended for a brief, fun little tour

My friend and I took this tour in early Jan whilst in Tokyo. Our guide was Yukios (hopefully we spelt her name correctly), she was excellent and had many stories and historical facts to share. We had children on the tour and she was very accommodating to them and knew how to keep them engaged. Food was really good and great company overall. I would definitely recommend this tour and would hesitate to do another tour with her or the company when next in Tokyo.

This is as good as a food tour gets. Guide Lora was superb. Showed and explained so many things about Japan and the area that made the food more memorable. Plus Shibuya-Ku is such a great place to go. The sushi was the best we have eaten in Japan.

We loved our walking food tour in Shibuya. We went to places we would have never have found ourselves and tasted exquisite food. Our guide’s vivacious personality and excellent knowledge made this a highlight of our visit to Tokyo. She, with the purple hair, was easy to follow!

This was a fun experience and perfect for our second night in Tokyo. We learned a lot about different kinds of restaurants, how to order, how to eat, and different types of food. There was good local information and a variety of food options. Our guide, Keiko or Kay, was the best and had a lot of good knowledge!! We would do it again!!

My wife and I loved this tour! Our tour guide was extremely friendly and knowledgable. The food was great and highly varied as well (many kinds of sushi, okonomayaki, curry pan, and some yakitori). We did multiple food tours during our trip to Japan, and this was our favorite.

Our tour guide was quite nice but not local, so all we got to experience was at best a 3rd hand information about the Japanese food culture. The spots we went to were definitely no secret spots and locals fast food joints at best. The reason why you would have skipped those joints as a tourist would simply be, that you think that it's not worth it and you'd be right. Everything is within 500m walking distance and if you decide to go as a group lager then 3, be aware that you might have to cue up at some places. What you need is a local guide, no expats showing you the local culture. We've been really disappointed at what was offered to us, which was not our guides fault. It's just not worth your time or money. There must be better tours on the market.

This was a wonderful little food tour brimming with fun and excitement. Delicious and educational! I loved that the meeting place was right opposite the small but lovely statue of Hachikō, a very loyal dog famous in Japan. Highly recommended!

We were really looking forward to this and it did not meet our expectations especially given the very high price. The guide, while nice, was very rushed, forgetful very new to Japan and clearly not a local. The food was average at best and we could have easily found all of these places on our own through other sources. We could have also eaten more--the sushi place it would also have been nice to offer us some choices. I would not recommend this tour and it should have been half of the price.
