    Great time with Arigato!
Sandra was such a wonderful accommodating guide! She was flexible to our requests, calm, funny, knowledgeable, and overall ensured we had a great time! I would definitely recommend Arigato tours and you should definitely ask for Sandra as your guide!

    Fun with Food
We loved this food tour. Melissa was a great guide and took us to a variety of places to explore different types of foods and different types of restaurants. She was thoughtful about the food restrictions and preferences within our group. She even convinced me to try the Sushi. We had lots of laughs and Melissa made us feel like we were her favorite group ever (weren't we?). Thanks to Melissa for an amazing night of Japanese food, culture and fun.

    Hiroshima
I had a great time in Hiroshima with Olivia. The tour was really casual with a focus on food and a great mix of stops along the way. I also got some great tips for the rest of my time in Hiroshima!

    Best food tour ever
We did this food tour our second day in Tokyo and it was amazing. We had struggled our first day to find great food then Malik introduced us to a whole new world. The food we had was unforgettable and Makki was so informative. I’d recommend this to anyone planning on a trip to Tokyo!

    Excellent Kyoto Pontocho Food Tour
This Pontocho Evening Food Tour was our second food tour with Arigato Japan. (The first was the fish market in Tokyo.) Of many tours we have taken, this company provides extremely knowledgeable, proficient English-speaking guides. We spent a wonderful evening with Noboru, who spoke English so naturally that we didn’t have to concentrate to understand him. In addition to the great samples we tried on the street and the delicious restaurants we visited, he told us about customs and pointed out symbols on buildings we never would have noticed. He was interesting and funny, and we enjoyed a fantastic and worthwhile evening!

    Great guy for Golden Gai
Kou was very friendly and speaks good English. Very knowledgeable about the area and put together a good itinerary for us. He took us to places where we wouldn’t have ventured by ourselves. Lots of background information and good fun to be with at the same time. We really enjoyed his company.

    Great foodie experience
Great food tour around the street food places in Osaka! Our guide Junko was very knowledgeable about the area and showed us places we’d not have seen on our own. A fun evening and well recommended.

    Excellent Guide
We had a delightful tour with Trevor, who is from the USA. Everything he showed us and told us about had a purpose and we learned interesting gems of info about the area including the market, food, a shrine, customs and history. Since he is American, we were able to ask questions which he could answer and explain fully. He gave us a unique perspective as an American living in Japan for many years. In addition, he is an exceedingly nice person and it was great to spend this most worthwhile morning tour with him.

    Excellent food experience
Junko was a fabulous guide, very easy to talk with and very knowledgeable- we’ll always remember our tour. We got to sample some great food with hidden local restaurants we would never have found ourselves.

    Great hidden gem food tour
We really enjoyed our hidden gem food tour in Shimbashi. Francois was really knowledgeable about the Japanese food and took us to food stops we wouldn’t have ever found or tried on our own. You get 4 food stops, all of which were delicious and opportunity to try some Japanese drinks, like plum wine for example. We also had a sake tasting stop. Make sure you’re hungry!

    Shockingly poor
We did the Osaka food tour which was shockingly poor, with a distinct lack of food variety, information, professionalism or coordination. The only redeeming value was our fellow tour mates who were lovely to talk with. Stop 1: octopus balls. Our guide purchased four containers of balls and distributed two to a family of four, and two to another couple; none to me and my husband. She then disappeared, so it was unclear if she was going to order more or if my husband and I should impose on the other couple’s food, which we ultimately had to do. Everyone had three balls each. Stop 2: fried food spot. We were each told to order 4 pieces of fried food from a menu. The guide failed to order all the food, however, and when it arrived she did not know what was what or who ordered what. We had to try to identify our own orders and then spend extra time there as she ordered more food to compensate those people who didn’t get their ordered items. Stop 3: An izakaya. Cute spot but extremely disorganized. One menu for 8 people (so ordering took a long time) and we were told to order one dish each. Not exactly a food tour when we are simply picking items that already appeal to us. Stop 4: small dessert spot. All in the food cost no more than 30gbp for me and my husband combined. Very little information or guidance about the food and extremely disorganized.

Waste of money - I do not recommend
We took the Absolute Osaka Food Tour last night. I had trouble believing we were charged so much for such a tour. The food was average at best and accordingly to my calculations, only between 5 and 10% of the price we paid went into the purchase of the food. Nothing that you cannot eat on your own and truly overpriced. We started off with Takoyaki which were just okay - we had better ones the same day. We continued with Kushikatsu that was really heavy and greasy. While you could think that this is always the case for fried skewers, we could compare with some we had in Kyoto, and I can tell you that when well made they are very nice and can even feel light. The Izakaya we went to was a mix of everything - sushi, grilled squid, fried rice, fried Camembert (!) which is never a good sign - and the food itself was very bland. Frankly just judging from the menu we would not have gone there. The desert (dorayaki) was fine although we had it prior during the two weeks we had already been there. All in all, for this price you can get a fine dining experience in Osaka, so please do not waste your money and book yourself a nice restaurant!

Definitely add this to your list of things to do
Our tour guide Shigeki was so lovely & very knowledgeable on Japans culture, history, the back street food scene & the food itself. We had an extremely enjoyable evening & I would absolutely recommend this tour for anyone interested in enjoying local cuisine. Sandra

Our Sugamo Food tour with Norma and Tomy totally EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS! Our tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and respectful of the culture, and introduced us to so much of the beautiful culture that we wouldn’t have known about otherwise. We toured food, snacks, drinks, an art gallery, old town Sugamo, Shrine & Temple practices, and they answered all of our many questions. They both even continued to accompany/assist us in figuring out our navigation needs after the tour, with a smile! We felt so blessed to have shared this magical experience with such genuine and knowledgeable tour guides, and this experience will be in our hearts forever! Definitely recommending to friends, family, and anyone interested. Thank you Norma and Romi!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This food tour was perfect for us. It was in a part of Tokyo we would never have been to if not for the tour. It was very flexible, and the guide (Mishie) was great and adjusted to what we wanted. She encouraged us to try new things but wasn't too pushy. We met shopkeepers who showered us with tastes and we had so much fun. This was perfect for a family! The staff was also really helpful.

I had two food tours with Arigato Japan Food Tours - Tokyo Underground and the Super Sugamo foodie adventure. They were both great.

Both tour leaders were professional, knowledgeable, friendly and caring.

I was impressed that Josh, the tour leader of Tokyo Underground, went out of his way to find me when I couldn’t find the right meeting point. Discovering the hidden gems of cafes, bars, restaurants and arts underneath the surface and understanding the intricate network of the underground passageways was a great experience!

In Sugamo, I have had the best and the most refreshing kakigori ever; not to forget the delicious freshly made butter and red bean paste doriyaki. Sugamo is a quiet suburb of Tokyo that feels like miles away with very few tourists. I like exploring local neighbourhoods that are not touristy.

I highly recommend Arigato Japan Food Tours for those who want to experience some real aspects of Japan’s food scene.

It was a very interesting tour! We visited a bunch of small, local shops in the neighbourhood and got to sample many things. We were small group of guests so it was a very pleasant activity. Highly recommend.
