Perfect way to start a Tokyo trip
Dec 2019 • Family
This was the perfect was to start our trip. We loved exploring the markets and streets with our guide. We also learnt many valuable cultural tips and tips of making the rest of our trip successful. Our guide was really lovely, interacted with our kids and personalised the tour to our needs so she went above and beyond. I would highly recommend you do this tour on day 1 as it will make the rest of your trip amazing :) Thankyou

Our food and walking tour was well organized and perfect in every regards. Our guide “Kiki”
was warm and welcoming and very inclusive to everyone, answered all of our questions, very attentive, and was most generous. We did not feel rushed and we kept at a manageable pace throughout the tour. We will request Kiki when booking another tour with Japan Wonder Travel.

Tokyo's foodie experience
Dec 2019 • Couples
My husband and I had the pleasure of taking the walking food tour that puts the rest to shame with Lily! She used to be a history professor so our tour was not only fun but Lily was dropping knowledge left and right. She greeted the Tsukiji food vendors with warm hellos and got us the best bluefin tuna cheek cuts sampler we could ever imagine. She gave us restuarant and museum recommendations which we definitely used and highly rated. She did not rush the tour and I wish we could have booked her for the rest of our trip!

Kyoko-san was an informative and friendly tour guide! She showed us around Tsukiji and Asakusa, while helping us take really amazing photos and eat amazing food. She really knows the best food spots, and even off the beaten track locations for wonderful photos. Thanks for bringing us around, I highly recommend this tour :)

Wonderful Food and Drink Tour!
Jun 2019 • Family
We had a wonderful time on this tour with Yoko, our lovely guide. She was the epitome of the hospitable Japanese host - so thoughtful in every way. Our group of 6 had 2 teens with different food allergies, 2 adventurous adults, and 2 slightly squeamish seniors. At every food stall, our guide carefully considered what would appeal to each of us and we tried numerous tidbits everywhere - some familiar and some completely out of our comfort zone. Nonetheless, we had an absolute blast! Yoko accompanied us to a delicious sushi lunch and we came home laden to the hilt with numerous purchases of the most delicious foodstuffs, tea and sake! Highly recommended!

Not what I was expecting
Jul 2019 • Couples
PROS:

1) Asaka was a wonderful guide. She was very knowledgeable about the culture, the food, and the history and we learned a lot on the tour. She was super nice and fun to talk to. She knew all the good places for food and shopping and gave recommendations according to our preferences. She did everything right and we would go on a tour with her again.

2) The sake tasting. They were expecting us and the sake was good.

3) The highlight was the tuna cutting demo. We learned about the different types of tuna.

CONS:

1) However, I don’t like the way the company has set up the tour. I have been to several food tours all over the world and this one was not what I expected. We felt bad for going to all the food stalls and taking their free samples with no intention of buying anything. That shouldn’t constitute a food tour. They were mostly mom and pop shops and were not getting anything out of us taking their samples. Usually, in other food tours, you go to different places and they would have samples prepared just for us, because the food tour company and had an agreement with them. It didn’t appear to be the case here.

2) One of the biggest disappointments was that we did not get lunch at the restaurant that was the first choice. We got there as scheduled, but there was a line of people and we didn’t have time to wait and there were not a previous arrangement with the restaurant for the food tour, so we ended up eating at a common chain of sushi restaurants. While I understand that the place was popular and it was probably small and we could not reserve spots, I have not experienced this before on a tour. I could have gotten the second choice sushi chain on my own. The sushi was fine, but definitely nothing special. We eat a lot of sushi and live in a Japanese community in our city and this was not particularly good. I don’t need a food tour to take me to an average chain.

If you have taken a lot of other food tours in other places, you might have encountered food arrangements made ahead of time for your tour. That’s what I was expecting here. It’s not a bad food tour, but it’s not what I was expecting. This review is to let people know what to expect and to make a decision accordingly.
