I was supposed to be part of a group of 3 people for the Tsukiji half day tour, but wound up getting a private tour because the others dropped out! While they really missed out on a unique experience, I was privileged and had a wonderful time. Tetsu my guide was one of the sweetest people I have met. Thorough and smiling, knowledgeable and generous in spirit. He never tired of my questions and went out of his way to help me, realising I was a foodie and loved Japanese food. I would highly recommend #JapanWonderTravel and Tetsu if you ever take this tour.

We had an amazing day and highly recommend this tour! We tried many different foods all over the market and discovered places and dishes we otherwise wouldn’t have. Our guide Kyoko was lovely. She went out of her way to make us happy, make sure we found the nicest souvenirs and making pictures of us. Thank you Kyoko-San!

Today I toured with Tomo-san who was absolutely wonderful and so knowledgeable in everything we did. Group size was perfect and the planned activities were really great. I’d definitely recommend to anyone who would enjoy a more structured day at the Fish Market.

This was the perfect was to start our trip. We loved exploring the markets and streets with our guide. We also learnt many valuable cultural tips and tips of making the rest of our trip successful. Our guide was really lovely, interacted with our kids and personalised the tour to our needs so she went above and beyond. I would highly recommend you do this tour on day 1 as it will make the rest of your trip amazing :) Thankyou

PROS:
1) Asaka was a wonderful guide. She was very knowledgeable about the culture, the food, and the history and we learned a lot on the tour. She was super nice and fun to talk to. She knew all the good places for food and shopping and gave recommendations according to our preferences. She did everything right and we would go on a tour with her again.
2) The sake tasting. They were expecting us and the sake was good.
3) The highlight was the tuna cutting demo. We learned about the different types of tuna.
CONS:
1) However, I don’t like the way the company has set up the tour. I have been to several food tours all over the world and this one was not what I expected. We felt bad for going to all the food stalls and taking their free samples with no intention of buying anything. That shouldn’t constitute a food tour. They were mostly mom and pop shops and were not getting anything out of us taking their samples. Usually, in other food tours, you go to different places and they would have samples prepared just for us, because the food tour company and had an agreement with them. It didn’t appear to be the case here.
2) One of the biggest disappointments was that we did not get lunch at the restaurant that was the first choice. We got there as scheduled, but there was a line of people and we didn’t have time to wait and there were not a previous arrangement with the restaurant for the food tour, so we ended up eating at a common chain of sushi restaurants. While I understand that the place was popular and it was probably small and we could not reserve spots, I have not experienced this before on a tour. I could have gotten the second choice sushi chain on my own. The sushi was fine, but definitely nothing special. We eat a lot of sushi and live in a Japanese community in our city and this was not particularly good. I don’t need a food tour to take me to an average chain.
If you have taken a lot of other food tours in other places, you might have encountered food arrangements made ahead of time for your tour. That’s what I was expecting here. It’s not a bad food tour, but it’s not what I was expecting. This review is to let people know what to expect and to make a decision accordingly.

This was a nice and more structured tour of the Tsukiji fish market, followed by a stroll through Asakusa.
I'd say make sure you don't eat much or any breakfast as fairly soon you'll be sampling lots of dishes on offer at the market. Our group for the fish market were 6 plus a guide and this was a good size. Our guide Tetsu was great, telling us some history and facts about the market and taking us by stalls, shops and restaurants.
For the second part we went to Asakusa. The Friday we went was the start of the Sanja Matsuri / festival around the local shinto shrine and Tetsu helped us get some information about this at our request. We then walked through Asakusa, checked out the Buddhist as well as Shinto temple, and walked around the area. Lots of food to try here as well (perhaps even more so due to the festival) although I have to say we didn't have much space for food by this time!
Thanks to Tetsu for a great day, for answering all our questions and sharing stories and laughs :)
