    Highly Recommended
This is my first time visiting Japan with my family, and I chose Japan Awaits. Their amazing team always promptly responds to my questions and customizes the tour based on my interests. Miko-san is a knowledgeable guide, and I believe that we would never have known and understood the city as well without her.

Monkeys and Japanese art, with a wonderful guide!
Our tour guide Toru was amazing. The Snow Monkey Park is worth travelling to. To have lunch at a local soba noodle house and then on to the Obuse museum was something we would not have done on our own. Would recommend this tour if you love Japanese art or switch up the second half of the tour but the Snow Monkey Park is a must do. Japan Awaits we’re great at keeping us informed along the way and instructions, tickets etc we’re very easy to follow.

    We LOVED it!
We had the BEST time with Norika Masuda-san. She was so friendly, patient and super accomodating to our questions and interests. We shared a really nice giggle over our favourite anime! She took so many photos of us and she was truly amazing, I can’t recommend her enough! The restaurant was delicious and the food sample making was super fun and efficient, my husband and I had many laughs. Thank you!!!

    Aaron's Japan Trip
My recent experience with Japan Awaits was nothing short of exceptional! My wife and I booked a multi-day tour around Tokyo, they exceeded all expectations. Jenna, our tour coordinator, was an absolute star. She was on top of every detail, ensuring a seamless and worry-free experience for all of us. Her prompt responses to our questions and her attention to every little detail truly made a difference in the planning process. Our tour guide, Hitsomi, was simply fantastic. Her knowledge of Japan's culture, history, and hidden gems was remarkable. She had a way of making every historical site, cultural experience, and local cuisine come to life. Her passion for sharing her country's beauty and heritage was infectious, and she made every moment on the tour unforgettable. Thanks to Japan Awaits, I gained a deep appreciation for Japan's rich culture and history. I can't recommend them enough for anyone looking to explore this incredible country. Jenna and Hitsomi, thank you for an unforgettable journey!

An excellent window into a fantastic Japanese sport!
Can't miss opportunity to experience Sumo! Shunsuke was a wonderful guide, with lots of knowledge of both the history of Sumo and modern day Sumo. In addition to seeing the main Sumo bouts of the day, Shunsuke toured us through the stadium and the museum, and pointed out famous Sumo wrestlers as they arrived. There were snacks and souvenirs available at the stadium as well, some of which were sold by Sumo Masters. But the Sumo bouts themselves were the best part of the day - so detailed, impressive and fun! We added the dinner option to the tour as well, and we and the others in our group used the opportunity to learn even more about Sumo from Shunsuke. Overall, I would highly recommend this tour if you visit Tokyo during a tournament.

An Excellent Experience for this Impressive Sport
This was an excellent experience. Initially we had planned to simply buy tickets for this tournament and go about it ourselves, but experiencing this alongside a knowledgable expert on Sumo was invaluable. Our guide, Toshio Arai, began with a historical background on the sport (and some traditional Japanese beliefs in general) to get the day started, and once inside the magnificent Ryogoku Sumo Hall Toshio, did an amazing job of breaking down the matchups, rankings and overall structure of the tournament. Once the (impressively massive) sumo wrestlers began the tournament itself, we were provided with detailed insight such as the specific physical techniques used, some of the more popular wrestlers backgrounds and all the tradition and ceremony surrounding each bout. If there was anything we wanted to know, we could simply ask and through an ear piece he was able to communicate the answer to the whole group. Generally this is not the sort of "touristy" thing my partner and I would do, but the additional knowledge, background and passion shown by Toshio made this a far more enjoyable experience had we simply gone ourselves, not understanding the various nuance of this ancient sport. We would highly recommend this experience to anybody thinking about it - a sport this impressive needs an experience to match.

    The Great Sumo’s
An amazing experience. Our guide Toshi was fantastic. He meet us at the station, we had a short walk to the Sumo Stadium. Toshi explained the history of Sumo, we had a quick visit to the Sumo museum and then a tour of the stadium. We all had an ear piece so Toshi could explain everything that was going on. So mush history and culture. I highly recommend seeing a Sumo Tournament and I highly recommend Toshi as a guide.

An interesting tour through two museums that don't particularly cater to non-Japanese speakers. Which made having a tour guide indispensable. It would certainly not have been worth visiting either without a helping hand to translate and explain things.

The museums essentially cover Japan from the end of the Edo period up until the restoration of Japan after WW2. I would recommend anyone with an interest in history try this tour, if only because it presents to you the perspective of another country upon the tragedies of WW1 and WW2.
