Miyuki was a terrific host. We found her easily at the station and she guided us through the delicious nooks and corners of Yanaka (10 stops in all). Along the way we learned a lot about the area and Japan, and of course ate some really delicious and fresh local foods such as rice crackers, bean pancakes, meat croquettes, ramen, sashimi, beer, sake and more. The gyoza we had at the ramen lunch stop were some of the best I’ve ever had. And my daughter particularly loved the chocolate mochi treats. Miyuki was also very kind to find an alternative food (fried chicken) for my wife who doesn’t eat sashimi, and took great care to find vegetarian options for our 9 year old daughter. I’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone!

My husband and I love to do food tours in different cities as a great way to acquaint ourselves with the local food and customs of a new place (some favorite past food tours have been in Paris, Seoul, Copenhagen, Hong Kong, and Hanoi) but we have been to Tokyo many times before and hadn't thought of doing a food tour because we are so familiar with Japanese food. However, we were intrigued by the idea of the Yanaka walking tour, which was a part of Tokyo we'd never seen before -- and so different than the bustling, new energy of Roppongi where we were staying.

We absolutely enjoyed our tour of Yanaka and all of the food we tried. Atsumi was a lovely guide and she made communication very easy by reaching out on WhatsApp before the tour.

Thank you Atsumi! Let us know when you are in Hawaii! :)

Dear Travelhappyholidays, Thank you so much for giving a review and joined our tour. It is such an honor to be able to have you say such a nice thing to me and also could show you around the Yanaka area. I’m grateful to have met you and your family, it was also really fun to played with your lovely daughter. I hope you had great time in Japan and looking forward to seeing you soon! Finally, thank you so much for all and yes, I will let you know if I have a chance to visit Hawaii! Best regards, Atsumi

I was a little skeptical about this tour because (at the time of booking) there were only 4 reviews on trip advisor. However, all reviews were excellent, so I took the risk. So glad I did! This was the best tour of our entire trip! We did the red lantern tour in Ebisu. Meg was our warm and friendly tour guide and was very flexible with the tour schedule. Because of when we arrived in Japan, we wouldn’t have been able to make their originally scheduled 6:15 tour, so Meg kindly agreed to start the tour an hour later for us.

We met Meg in the Ebisu metro station, which was one stop from Shibuya (where we were staying). She held a sign that said Oishii Food Tours and we found her easily. She had the entire night planned out, and had called ahead to each place we visited and made reservations. Every place we went to was crowded, but there was always a reserved seat just for our group when we arrived. It was seamless.

The tour was only at places locals go. I don’t think any of the places had English menus. She took care of ordering all the food. The cost of the tour included food and one beverage at each place we ate. We ate at about 4 or 5 places and after beer and Saki and a Japanese cocktail at each place, we were a little tipped by the end of the tour. It felt like we were having a fun night on the town in Japan, the way we would have a night on the town with friends in the US. It was really a blast!

Meg also had little flash cards teaching us some Japanese and the name of the fish we were eating. There was another flashcard of useful Japanese phrases (which we kept with us for the remainder of the trip and used often).

Overall, best tour we went on during our entire trip! If we were in Japan longer we would have done the other Oishii Food Tour that they offer. Meg shared with us that this is a new tour company and she is one of the owners. You can tell she is an owner because she shows a great deal of pride and passion in her work. I suspect Oishii Food Tours will become very popular and very booked very soon!

From the moment of booking, I knew we had chosen the right company to explore the Tokyo’s izakaya scene. The company were excellent in regards to communication - sending me reminders and keeping me up to date about any changes in our tour.

We had a small group of only 4, which was absolutely perfect for the venues we visited. Our guide Komachi was great: very informative and really lovely, taking care of us throughout the night. We visited four places over the course of the night, each one showcasing something different Japanese cuisine.

I would highly recommend this tour and any tour with Oishii.

We went on two different private tours with Oishii Tokyo Food Tours during the holiday season in December, 2016. Both tours were outstanding, and we highly recommend Oishii. As the title indicates, two tours were not enough! Had we known how great they would be, we would have re-arranged our travel schedule and booked a different food tour with Oishii (for a different Tokyo neighborhood) each night we were in town.

After researching our options, we selected Oishii and began working with Meg on the arrangements. Our requests were complex, since we were traveling during the holiday season (many places were closing down) and had specific time requirements based on our schedule. These were not issues -- Meg arranged an itinerary to meet our needs.

Our first tour was with Meg in the Meguro area. Within 3 to 4 hours of arriving in Tokyo, we had already: literally caught a fish in a restaurant, eaten fresh sushi made from the fish we caught, sampled great tempura and dined on smoked duck. We also tried some exotic desserts (gelato and cheesecake made from celery). All of this happened at quaint and unique local restaurants. Meg was an excellent guide! She interpreted everything for us and shared a lot about Japanese culture during our experience, and answered all of our questions.

A few nights later we toured Shimbashi with Nimo. This was also a great experience. Our tour began with a drink on the 46th floor of a high-rise building that provided a sweeping view of Tokyo at night. We then visited several places, where we ate: Japanese-style tapas dishes (pork, chicken, croquettes), grilled vegetables, and a variety of sushi and scallops. We also sampled high-quality sake and beer, and had drinks with some locals that we met at one of the bars we visited. Our tour ended with some superb pork ramen. We made an instant connection with Nimo. He was an outstanding guide! He educated us on all-things Japanese and we shared lots of great conversation throughout the tour.

Do yourself a favor and schedule a tour with Oishii Tokyo Food Tours.

My husband and I love to go on food tours in every city we travel to, and I have to say that the Oishii food tour is one of our all time favorites! We did the Aka Chochin tour with Kanako and it was such a fun evening full of great food, drinks, and conversation with our guide and fellow tourists. This tour had the right balance of food, drinks, and walking. Kanako was kind, friendly, helpful, and full of knowledge. All of the food was delicious, and the stops were great!

We just returned from an awesome trip in Japan. We used Oishii Tokyo for 2 food tours while there including the Aka Chochin in Ebisu and a custom tour around Shimbashi. With the language barrier, this was a great way to visit local eateries that we wouldn't have visited on our own. Having a local to guide you to restaurants where you know the food will be good and not having to worry about trying to translate a menu takes the stress away, allowing you to really enjoy your food. Both of our guides (Miyuki and Megumi) were wonderful and spoke English very well. The food was fantastic. In Ebisu, we got a taste of yakitori, sashimi, okinomiyaki and ramen and 4 alcoholic drinks at places filled with locals. In Shimbashi, we got a true taste of the salarymen neighborhood venturing around to many places filled with workers after a long day at the office. Both tours were well worth the money!

This food tour was amazing!!! As a first time traveller to Tokyo and a lover of good food, it really is something that I cannot recommend enough. I did this tour with a friend and we were shown a side of Tokyo (Shibuya and the Izokaya culture to be exact) that we would never have seen otherwise. The food was absolutely delicious and a drink was also included at each place we visited. We were definitely not left wanting by the end!!

While the food and interesting places were great, it was our tour guide Meg who made the tour for us! She made the whole process from beginning to end an effortless and enjoyable experience. She was informative and so interesting and by the end it felt like just being in the company of an old friend. With her local knowledge and easy going nature, we were taken around to some fascinating places and ate some fantastic food, all while learning things along the way. It really exceeded our expectations and Meg even helped us after the tour with other bookings and other suggestions of things to see and do.

If you are ever in Tokyo, this is a MUST!!

Thank you Meg! I can't wait for our next visit here.

Wow. We do food tours all over the world and Oishii is one of the very best we have ever taken. We did the new private two fish markets tour through Toyosu and Tsukiji - it was everything we could have wished for and more! So many amazing experiences from shopping for fresh wasabi in the market to watching the huge tuna be prepared and butchered to all of the AMAZING different foods we ate at the stalls along the way. We left so full. The amazing sushi meal near the end was so beautiful. Meg was one of the best tour guides we have ever had. You have to make time to take a tour with Oishii Food Tours!

We did this tour on our first night and it was a great way to really throw yourself into local food. We had 4 stops. The first was yakitori the second sashimi, the third Japanese pancakes and finally dessert. The sashimi was the best as we tried things we never would have otherwise and they were really good. We also tried different sake. The pancake place was in an alleyway we never would have found and it was REALLY cool. The last stop was an ice cream shop. We met some great new friends and had a really fun time but we both agreed at about $160 AUD each it was overpriced. You get 4 drinks (beer or sake) included and they say you can have one more if you tag them on Facebook and they literally sit there and make you do it. It felt a bit pushy considering how much we had paid. I couldn't get my roaming to work so I ended up paying an extra 1000jpy for our 2 extra drinks which I just found irritating. That said we had a nice time but I think it was overpriced.

Thank you for joining our tour. Happy to hear you enjoyed all the restaurants and made new friends during the tour. I'm sorry to hear you couldn't post on Facebook because of no internet connection. Still, thank you for trying. We provide various food and drinks (each place, regular size drink, not small) so our guests go home with full stomach and many times they say enough drinks even without extra drink (Of course some people enjoy extra drink). So we strongly believe the price is fair considering tour content. Thank you so much for your feedback. We'll try to find a solution for guests without wifi how we can provide extra drink to be fair for everyone. Kind Regards, Meg Sakuma
