- Stephfrog00FUN day trip from Queenstown! Best day.Awesome trip! From the bus ride from Queenstown to Glenorchy which was spectacular and interesting facts shared by our driver James. To the speed boat up the Dart River complete with spins. And the best part being in nature, walking through ancient forest and onto our FunYals to explore canyon then down the river easily paddling with the current. We had snow tge day we went but the team ensured we were warm with extra fleeces, soup and tea as well at the base camp. Awesome work Andreas, JJ and Nina. Thanks for a great day. Steph and Amy
- yvettew68500AmazingAmazing trip with everything provided - warm clothing, lovely lunch. Pristine environment with excellent guides.
- KelseyKoo00Highlight of our 2023 NZ tripThe staff were super friendly and very knowledgeable about the river. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience as it had a bit of everything - exciting jet boating, a short and informative forest walk, great bird life, amazing kayak into a gorgeous river canyon with direct water flow from mountain glaciers - and a trip down river on small but fun rapids. Also, a shout out to the catering people who were very accommodating for vegans/gluten free - fresh, tasty salads and fruit, soup, and a delicious homemade vegan ginger bar for dessert - yummo!! Full day adventure, did not want it to end.
- Scenic1954688029400UnmissableAmazing scenery. Just jaw dropping. Don’t be put off by the jet boat ride, it isn’t one of the adrenaline type rides.
- PaulaF2000Hugely RecommendedThis had been recommended by 3 of our B&B Hosts and are so glad we booked to do it. Our time on the Lake and River was amazing. Excellent driving by Jordan and good in pointing out interesing points during our 360 spins. Great adventure.
- matf6900Speed out against the flow, paddle back using the natural river directionAwesome jet speed boat out, expertly driven by Simon. Amazing how close he got to sides and shallow areas. Knows his stuff. Paddle back in stable wide kayaks on a fast flowing river guided exceptionally by Toby. Great local information and knowledge, well run and very professional. Loved the day out.
- Alexlovesdebate00Funyak wasn’t fun for meView is great, tour is well thought. But what what happened to me is not fun. 1. I went there solo on Jan.25th, and they said I can’t go alone with my own boat, so they put me with a tour guide together, totally understandable. But answer me this, why me, as a grown up (who my tour guide knows I’ve did some pack rafting before) can’t have my own boat, but two little boys can row their own boat? They can barely use the paddles for the beginning. I really hope this isn’t because some asian stereotype you have, but it sure felt like it. And since I was on the tour guide’s boat, we have to be in the back so he sees all other people, so we move slow, to a point that I don’t need to row anymore, which I don’t like , but still understandable. What happened was there’s a group of guests on our team that always beached, so my tour guide decide to tie their boat to ours for the entire trip since, this is understandable on his behalf. But, where is my fun? 2. At the end of the tour, we were told by my our tour guide to help getting boats deflated and rolled, so we did, and there was other tour guide yelling at us to stop, she was so angry and kept saying we’re doing it wrong, and tell us to leave it to her, and she asked her team guests to help instead. It’s okay if a. You ask our tour guide teach us how to do it properly or b. You teach us how to do that But it’s NOT OKAY that you just yelled at us. That’s just disorganized of your tour guide system.
- Y575LBdeanw00Totally enjoyed !A terrific experience, family of 5, (3 adults n 2 16 yr olds), sun was shining, we totally enjoyed it all thanks goes to our awesome guide “Sophie”, done a great job, very informative, was really made feel welcome Definitely recommend Cheers Dean
- fcgg00Beautiful and exciting tourOur group did a "3hr Jet boat charter and gourmet morning tea". It was really fun as well as beautiful, going from adrenaline filled all-out boating up the river to very informative stops where Jimmy had great insights about the natural surroundings and New Zealand's Native culture. The views were absolutely amazing throughout the whole tour. Jimmy made us feel completely safe even when performing extreme stunts on the boat.
- maxinmomma00Could be a three hour tour…2.5 would be more accurate. We are a family of 5 with three teens and are in Queenstown for 3 days as part of whirlwind southern hemisphere holiday. Our agent booked this full day adventure which was the most disappointing activity we have done so far over 7 jam-packed days. You meet at 8:15 in downtown and then eventually drive almost an hour to Glenorchy to begin the adventure. We really struggled to understand what to pack as the descriptions vary from what they provide to travel agents, what is on their website and what is on their TripAdvisor page. The towels and raincoat are unnecessary. Bug repellent is a must. We were also unclear on what time we would be back. We are booked for other all-day adventures in other cities and the times or time ranges are clear. Jet boat portion was fun because the Dart River is quite beautiful and the boat goes pretty fast (not rocket boat fast) The rafting portion was an absolute joke. It is not their fault at all that this river has zero current, depth or hazards so acting like it does is weird. We can all see that there is no rapid dude. They seem to drag everything unnecessarily including having us wait an extra 40 minutes for a bus to show up for the return. We were barely on time for a 5:30 dinner reservation downtown. The strangest part by far was the attitudes of the 7-10 employees we interacted with during our day. ONE friendly and warm person (she drove the bus and guided one raft) everyone else was subdued at best to downright hostile. So odd for NZ where we have marveled every day at how warm and friendly the people are. Could be because they were working Xmas Eve and were bottom of the pecking order but as some one who has worked holidays, that’s just not okay. The highlight for my teen son was how “cool” it was that the jet boat driver vaped the whole time he drove the boat so thanks for that.
- sueski140700Excellent adventureHad a wonderful time despite the cold and rain.Dart River had everything covered. Very professional and knowledgeable, I would highly recommend this tour for everyone visiting queenstown
- swishmishS00Awesome experienceWow what an excellent adventure, the dart River adventures team were awesome - we booked the Funyak experience. From Mac’s chatter during the drive, to the speedy jet adventure (sorry forgot our capt’s name) through to James insightful tutorials on the Funyak. The team has definitely set the bar high for the rest of our trip. Lunch was a good spread and although the wind picked up in the afternoon, we could still paddle to the pick up point. Highly recommended!
- sammig3300Great time jet boatingAmazing experience jet boating along the dart river - our guide was super fun and we felt extremely safe. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great but we still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the surroundings were beautiful despite the weather. Would highly recommend!
- Betsy L00Could have been condensed! We had a great time on the jet boat and fun on the kayaks back down the river. But the kayaks are much shorter than expected and very mellow which was fine. The disappointing part was how long we sat for lunch. That part was way too long and the sand flies were biting. Then when we returned to the bus in Glenorchy to go back to Queenstown we were told it would be another hour plus wait and to go across the street for food/beverage. Wish we would have know how much wasted time there would be. We met at 25 Shotover at 8:15 and didn’t return until 16:30 and that was after asking for a speedier bus ride back. Everyone was super sweet but with a limited time in Queenstown we could have done more adventures instead of this being all day.
- SueR249500Great day out on the Dart RiverExcellent trip. Great jet boating and the canoes were a lot of fun. Our friendly guides made the whole experience well worthwhile. Organised and professional. Not to mention the wow views!!

Difficult to rate this activity as the boat trip deserved top marks, whilst the bus trip was not good,it felt like a cheap, uncomfortable way to lengthen the tour duration in order to justify the cost. Having done the Dart many years ago we were keen to take visiting overseas guests. The jet boat travel was as awesome as before with another great driver. It was very disappointing however to disembark and realise this tour has seriously changed. The forest walk ended with a bus ride, instead of return by boat. The lengthy bone shaking bus ride was not a good end to our fabulous jet boat ride. Guessing it is the only way to deal with the increasing numbers of tourists to this area. Personally we would have paid more to stay with the boat given the choice, and will only return with future guests should that option become available.
Pregnant women should not do this tour as advised, however those with back or neck problems should also be warned at time of booking, not in a light hearted manner once on board the boat with an option to "swim back now". There is no warning at all about the bone shaking bus trip.
Every member of the team was pleasant, well organised and knowledgeable, so criticism of them is not intended in this review.
We look forward to being able to take a jet boat up and down the Dart and enjoy the fabulous scenery without the "extras" please.

Well organized, pick up at hotel on time and great weather! The trip to Glenorchy has stunning scenery and when you get on the jet book, you are in for an exciting ride! The river, being very shallow, offers uts own thrill as you wonder how your driver can skid between piles of rocks and glacier deposits of sand and gravel.then when the water gets a little deeper, with warnings beforehand, he does 360’s with the boat! So much fun!! Each boat has maybe 12 persons. For those who want a fun ride that isn’t up to the level of bungee jumping or hang gliding, this is a great ride with the bonus of being in glorious scenery

I've traveled the world. This jet boat ride up the Dart River is on my top 10 things I've experience. The towering mountain scenery is amazing. The boat ride is fast but not jarring at all. You won't get wet. You go about 15 miles up the river. About half way back, they will drop you off where buses will take you to various TV & movie shouting locations. The road back to the office is very ruff and jarring.

Jet boat zooms you up a very shallow river. Exhilarating! Very scenic. Then kayak at a leisurely pace downstream. Highlight was a breathtaking detour into a slot canyon. Guides were knowledgable and chill. Pacing was perfect.

I thought this might be one of those things that was a little too "touristy" - fast boats doing 360 degree turns on an icy river?? But some friends told us we had to do it, that the scenery was beautiful, so we did it. Well, it turned out to be a great experience! The boats hold about 10-12 people, so it's not too crowded, and the bars you hold onto are very secure, so the 360s were actually fun, plus we got a little splashed. The jet boats are incredibly fast - they said we were going as fast as 75 miles an hour at times, and the draft is so shallow (4") that you skirt the gravel banks as you follow the river's twists and turns. While you're moving so fast, it's hard to really pay attention to the scenery (I was trying to hold on to my glasses so they wouldn't blow off) but we stopped quite a few times and got a better chance to look around. And it was beautiful, with the incredible New Zealand mountains rising all above us. They said we went up the river about 75 km and back in about 2 hours, so we got into a pretty remote area and got to see the mountains up close. I highly recommend this company and you must take a jet boat ride if you're in the area.

The whole experience from start to finish was exhilarating , staff friendly and helpful and Ed our driver was incredible, he was very reassuring as this was my 1st experience on a jet boat. the scenery was stunning even though I have visited Queenstown multilple times and been over whelmed by Queenstowns mountains the views we saw on the this trip were unbelievable beautiful and out of this world, the boat ride was exciting and alittle scary but always felt safe.I would highly recommend this jet boat ride and it was a high light of our trip

Jet boat fun amongst jaw dropping scenery.
My wife and I loved this fun and it was a brilliant way to get up front and personal with the water and snow capped mountains while enjoying a bit of 360 whip and speed thrills.
You have to admire the skill and knowledge of the driver, and Ed like all of them I am sure, came with a good sense of humour to match his expertise.
This is a jet boat experience first and foremost. There is no environmental tuition or interaction with nature. You get a chance to get off the boat for about 15 mins and stretch your legs on a rock island, but this is really just killing time and giving you an opportunity for great scenic photo shots, selfies with the boat and skipper and a chance to absorb the serenity.
If you want to stay dry, the front seat for 2 seemed best. If you want to feel the movement and thrills with a touch of pure water over your jacket, then the rear is a good option.
Safety was first class and water jackets were available for those unprepared.
The drive out to Glenorchy itself adds premium value to the Dart River thrill, so make sure you leave plenty of time to stop along the way and get some of the most beautiful views in the world.
We spend a good deal of time on the Great Ocean Road in Australia and the Glenorchy drive is the Crocodile Dundee of the Great Ocean knife experience

This is a great tour and I highly recommend it to anyone who is visiting Glenorchy. Our driver Ben was friendly, knowledgeable and made you feel comfortable that he was behind the wheel - as I suspect all their drivers do.
Overall, it's a great value trip and the best jet boating I've done anywhere. The jet boating itself was great fun and the scenery is truly spectacular. My wife and I found ourselves both keen to go back and do it again. For us, it's a must do.

What an incredible tour for my family. It was chilly but an incredible up close experience with remote and majestic scenery. Although I have been to this area of NZ before I can’t imagine not continuing to visit this again and again.
The guide was lovely and informative and we loved our trip. We were there in winter and whilst it was very cold it was still exhilarating.
The trip to Glenorchy is absolutely mesmerising and from there is just continues to blow your mind.

Leaves all other jet boat trips for dead.
It does cost but worth every cent and for a two hour trip it is far better value for your money. This is the best commercial boat ride I’ve been on.
Great staff and an unforgettable experience.

What are the durations of the high-speed ride on the Dart River and the hike through the ancient forest?
Hi, I'm planning on taking the tour in Feb. Is it ok if I drive myself and meet the tour in Glenorchy or do I need to take the tour bus from Queenstown? Thanks.

How difficult is the walk? My wife and I are fit and walk 5+ miles several days a week. My wife, however, has a problem with depth perception following an eye surgery and it is hard for her to walk on uneven surfaces and steep, dark stairs. Will this walk be a problem for her?

From our bus down to the riverboat was a short dirt path that was a bit steep but very navigable and I have bad knees. There was a short distance between where the bus parked and the "trailhead" that was over rounded river rocks but still very accessible for me. There is no pressure to hurry and the walk is very easy.

The boat ride itself is nearly 1 hour. We also did a hike in the national park which was about a half hour. The drive to and from the site of the boat ride was about 45 min each way. Suggest you contact the vendor as to whether they do 2 person tours but I doubt it.
