- dyonm20180 contributionsBest tour, best tour guide!Johnny is a very experienced tourguide, who speaks fluent English as well as the local language in the different villages. It is clear that he has been doing tours for almost 20 years as the locals know him and really like him. Johnny has made our 2-day trip a fantastic experience, we can highly recommend. The tour goes through beautiful landscapes allowing you to experience the local lifestyle. We have done many hikes before, this one was by far the best tour and with the best tour guide!Written February 21, 2020

- Anderoid0 contributionsAmazing 3-day trek, thanks to Ko Johnny!I had the most amazing trek, and very happy that I contacted Johnny. Once we met, I told him what I expect, what I enjoy, and then he quickly drew up a route and had everything organized. All I had to do was walk! I lost my trekking shoes on the morning we were about to set off and Johnny was very kind to lend me his extra pair of shoes. It was an incredibly frustrating morning but his little kind gesture brought everything under control. On the trek, being a city kid, I know little about life in the countryside. But Johnny fills me up from everything about the crops grown, to the life and culture of each village. I finished the trek feeling I've learned so much more about the region and I think that's a true sign of a great guide! Not only does Johnny know the area inside out, he speaks the languages and can help you have a more genuine interaction you meet along the trek. Thank you Johnny! This trek wouldn't have been half as fun or wonderful without your help!Written May 18, 2019
- cgates19550 contributionsGreat one day trek with lots of varietyJohnny is friendly and well connected to village people. This gave us a wonderful personal experience, trekking initially through recently grown new forest that is now protected. We enjoyed the stroll through the first village meeting local women and curious children. The lives of local farmers has improved over the last 6 years & impart due to farming diversification which we viewed throughout the day. Our Napalese lunch was delicious and included spectaculat valley, mountain & village views. Podt lunch we trekked through forests and around lakes, resting at the reservoir where we watched locals fishing. This trek was so much more than we were expecting & Johnny's sharing of local history & knowledge was of great value. This is the guy to trek with when you visit Kalaw.Written May 8, 2019
- Paradise8115420 contributionsExcellent tripMyanmar is a beautiful and lovely country. The kalaw is less known than Inle Lake. But it is a quiet and beautiful place. Especially, try trekking from the kalaw to Inle lake. I went to the kalaw three times. I was trekked with Johnny every all time. He is kind, smart, and good at cooking. He knows very well what we want. And I always do my best. A night at the homestay is a very special experience. be able to experience the life of a ethnic minority I will travel with Johnny when I go back to the kalaw. Best season in December and January, and the scenery is so beautiful If you will go to the kalaw, sure meet to Johnny.Written April 30, 2019
- YelloWTShirts0 contributionsThe Highlight of my trip to Myanmar!!!This is a must do activity for anyone visiting Myanmar! I was fortunate to have been able to do both the 1 day trek around Kalaw and the 3 day trek from Kalaw to Inle Lake. Johnny is an incredible guide; he is a fluent English speaker and he's not only very friendly but also very knowledgeable about the local area, it's wildlife and it's history. The 1 day trek took us through what remains of the rain forest in the area, past old colonial reservoirs, up to the stunning Kalaw view point and through beautiful pine forests where the distance sound of monks at prayer guided us through the fog. It was a really atmospheric walk and perfect on a damp, misty day. However, the real highlight is the 70-75km 3 day trek from Kalaw down to Inle Lake. After you leave Kalaw's rolling hills and it's unique pine forests behind you enter the world of rural, agricultural Myanmar. Beautifully crafted terraced rice paddies, fields of corn, slices of village life from groups of Pa-o women, in their thick dark dresses and brightly coloured turbans, weaving baskets out of bamboo in the shade to men preparing fireworks for local festivals. You feel transported to a world far away from the bustling streets of Yangon and Mandalay. Nights are spent in small villages in the homes of farmers who make sure you're well looked after and have a comfy place to sleep. After a long day trekking it is blessed relief when Johnny's personal cook shows up on a moped ready to prepare all manner of delicious dishes both local and international, including the best chips I've ever had! The reward for your efforts is the splendid site of Inle lake glistening in the sun, a well earned cool drink and boat trip from the west of the lake, where you finish, to either your hotel or Nyaung-Shwe. If your heading back to Kalaw Johnny will arrange transportation and most likely travel back with you otherwise it can be arranged that your luggage is sent to your hotel by the lake ahead of time. Bring good walking shoes, sun lotion, blister plasters, rash cream plus cool clothing to walk in. It's an experience you won't forget!Written April 24, 2019

We were looking for trekking agency around kalaw with my boyfriend and found excellent trekking after many differents opportunity we choose this one because johnny (our guide) was so friendly ! Johnny speak very good English and knows everything you can ask, we took little way without touristic group. We were alone in the jungle with many butterfly and beautiful nature instead of follow train railway all day like everybody does. Don't leave Kalaw for the Inle Trek until you have gone to see the sunset at the Viewpoint. Give about 30 minutes to drive up the mountain. MOTORBIKE is the easiest way to go up and down (except rainy season). Tickets on the site cost 1000mmk but that also gets you a drink. There is limited dining there as well.
Don't miss the Kalaw 5 day market (every 5 days) downtown. Lots of activity there. Eat TOFU NWEY! A traditional Shan dish. Drink cheap and sing along with, usually 3, guitarists at the Hi Bar every evening.

We had 3 marvellous days with Johnny who took us through villages and country fields where we could exchange with the local people (off the touristic pathes).
He explained so many things about the Myanmar culture and the agriculture habits that it made this trek even more interesting than just looking at nice landscapes.
He prepared fantastic lunches (with memorable advocado salads!) and dinners together with the guesthouse owners.
He also speaks a very good English (also for the French people we are).
These days are one the best days we spent in Myanmar.
We can only warmly recommend Johnny to have a really "excellent trekking".

These two days in the nature with Johnny were PERFECT ! I enjoyed so much ! I did it with my parents and my brother and we will remember it as a beautiful and awesome adventure ! We are french and Johnny speak english very well so we understood all the things that he teached (like a real teacher!) us. He has an excellente knowledge about the nature, the agriculture, the traditions, the tribes, the politic, the culture, the bouddhism, the education of his country.
