Engineering Interns 2011
I am a rising junior at Brown University, studying Computer Science. I am from Atlanta, but I love the cooler summers up North and am slowly getting used to the winters. I have been a teaching assistant for the past three semesters, and I will continue teaching this year. I am very interested in web development, and TripAdvisor has been a great learning experience. Working on TripAdvisor's Facebook app has been a really cool experience, especially given how many people will use it. Outside of programming, I enjoy playing intramural football and volleyball, and I am a member of the AEPi fraternity. I love traveling and have been all over the world with my family, most recently traveling to Iceland and the Amazon.
I'm a rising sophomore at RPI, studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. In my free time at school I work on the FormulaSAE team doing data acquisition and wiring for a racecar. I'm very excited to be spending the summer here at TripAdvisor.
I'm a rising sophomore at MIT studying Computer Science. At TripAdvisor, I work on the Commerce team, organizing our advertising inventory and wading through billion-row SQL tables. I've developed a prediction engine to forecast how changes in our inventory will affect the site, altered how we store in-memory information to make it easier to change data while keeping the site running, and created an internal calendar tool to display our predictions for when advertising partners will run out of their budgets. In the past, I've worked at the MIT Media Lab, researching gestural interfaces, creating new ways to visualize historical data, and developing dynamic mapping systems. Outside of work, I cook, dye my hair neon colors, make pottery, spin fire staff, and am a certified bartender.
I'm a rising senior at Brown University. I am concentrating in Computer Engineering and am very interested in the current state and future possibilities of mobile technology, both hardware and software. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and for better or worse, am a die-hard Cleveland sports fan. In my free time, I play rugby for Brown, snowboard, and am really into music and film.
I'm a rising senior studying Computer Science at Tufts University. Academically, my interests include human-computer interaction, web engineering, data visualization and applied machine learning. I'm passionate about computer science education in the developing world, and have previously worked at One Laptop per Child and the Open Source Digital Voting foundation. I enjoys juggling, learning obscure vim idioms, and hacking on weekend web projects.
I'm a rising junior at Brown University, where I'm majoring in computer science and computational biology. When I was young I wanted to grow up to play for the Boston Red Sox. That didn't pan out, so I now spends much of my time writing software for TripAdvisor. In my spare time, I enjoys biking, cooking, and playing guitar and banjo.
I'm a computer science major at MIT (class of 2013). I am originally from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I am currently working with the hotels team. When I am not coding (or eating or sleeping), I run cross country and track and field.
I'm currently a sophomore at Northeastern University, studying computer science. Unfortunately not among the vast number of skills in my possession is a talent for writing biographies. Even mini ones. I like playing video games with my friends, watching TV shows, reading books (particularly fiction/fantasy), and playing around with the latest technology.
Making an impulse decision as a freshman at MIT, I decided to be a Computer Science major. Luckily, It turned out that I loved coding and a fortunate series of events culminated in me interning at Trip Advisor.

I'm a 3rd-year at Northeastern University pursuing a dual Bachelor's and Master's in Computer Science. I'm a big foodie and have a passion for exploration and novel experiences. The things that interest me most are the subtle but innate beauties of experience and three sentence long biographies.
I'm a sophomore at Northeastern University. I am presently a Computer Science and Business major but I am tied between studying Information Science as well. I’ll figure it out though eventually – that’s what college is for, right? I love spending time with my friends running around Boston, beaching it up, cliff diving, snowboarding, playing basketball, and messing around with the newest technology. I don’t like to pay anyone to do anything I can possibly do, I consider myself a jack-of-all-trades.
I'm a rising junior at Brown University, concentrating in Computer Science. I'm from Brooklyn, New York, but I've had a great time in Boston, as well! In my spare time, I like to explore the city and find new places to take photographs, play chess, and relax.
My name is Karthik and I am a rising senior at Princeton. I am studying Economics, with minors in Comp Sci and Finance. After moving around a lot when I was younger (India, Romania, Russia), my family moved to New York where I spent my high school years at the Collegiate School. My interests involve anything to do with basketball, music, movies and tv shows, video games, and travel. Here at TA, I worked with the SEO team as an analyst. I have had a great summer and feel I have been able to contribute in a real way. I look forward to working here in the future, if possible.
I come from the mysterious country China and study at Brown University majoring in Computer Science. I love solving puzzles (Yes! Algorithms!) and playing with systems and data. Never call me a programmer, I am a computer scientist.
Born and raised in Chandler, Arizona (just outside Phoenix), after high school I was too restless to stay, and so am currently attending Brown, where I'm a junior. Prior to college, I hadn't written a single program, but am now a head teaching assistant for an introductory CS class. I tend to move around in just about everything I do: I want to try everything, and so have picked up everything from debate to lacrosse to The New York Times. I tend to be happiest when I'm facing something I've never seen before, be it an interesting problem to tackle, a new idea to mull over, or just a new place to explore.
I'm a sophomore at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. This summer, I worked in the Sales, Marketing and Engagement team focusing on understanding Hadoop, Hive and Facebook integration. Outside of TripAdvisor, I enjoy working out with the MIT Sport Taekwondo Club and working on international development with MIT's Engineers Without Borders club.
I'm in the Boston University College of Engineering class of 2012. I am currently studying computer engineering. I also play club hockey for BU, play music under the band name "Aquell" (which can be found on iTunes/Amazon/Rhapsody), design t-shirts and websites, and make games/3D animations. In what's left of my spare time I love to rock and roll with my friends and have entrepreneurial ideas. I refuse to sleep. Too much life to have with not enough time to spend on it.
I'm a student at MIT going into my junior year and looking at an Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Degree. Some interesting facts about me: I was an All-American track runner last year, play guitar in a band with some of my close friends, and love any activity involving lots of adrenaline (sky diving, cliff jumping, off roading -- it's all great). I've also been know to make a mean grilled ham & cheese. I lived in Minnesota most of my life so I would say that's given me an often more positive outlook on the world than the Bostonians I live with and that's fine with me. I've Worked/Learned at TripAdvisor during January term, and now also during the summer months.
I grew up in sunny and hot Trinidad and Tobago, and am currently studying at MIT (MEng 2012 - my thesis is on making organic LEDs for artificial neural networks). I like hiking and anything outdoorsy, card games, and movies. I love travelling and living abroad, and have managed to spend each summer in a different country since freshman year. I also spent an amazing exchange year at Cambridge University, UK, where I got to go punting and rambling, both very enjoyable activities.
I'm a rising sophomore at MIT majoring in Computer Science. I'm originally from Dallas, TX, so the east coast has been a pretty big change, but I'm getting used to it. In the future, I hope to join the software entertainment industry as a software architect and creative writer.
