I spent 3 nights at the Ameritania in Ocotober '09. Couldn't ask for a better location and though the room was small, it was very clean and the beds were very comfortable and the bathroom had great hot water and a wonderful bathtub for soaking, not too fancy but very functional. The staff was polite and helpful and the lobby was fun. Loved the big red velvet wing chair! I would say for the price we paid, we got our money's worth. If you are looking for a nice safe place to sleep and park your bags while you see the city Ameritania is a great place to stay! « less

We stayed at the Ameritania hotel for 3 nights this month. The hotel is dodgy, but you CAN get lucky here. I say that because as slong as you don't get a room on the 2nd or third floor, you'll probably be happy.

Our 9th floor room was clean, the water quality was good (contrary to other reviews here), the internet was BLAZING fast (most internet in NY hotels is SLOOOOWWW because of sooo many users and poor connection in NY), and the bed was very comfortable.

Complaints:

Internet is too expensive for daily use. There should be a discount plan available for more than one day like in other hotels.

Most floors smell like smoke.

Definately needs some serious carpet cleaning in the hallways. « less

With regards to the wireless internet in our hotel, to be fair, our wireless provider does offer reduced rates when three days or more of their service is purchased.

I arrived at the hotel and was greeted by the manager who happened to be talking to the Doorman. He walked me right to the front desk and checked me in. Room was clean, just a bit dark. I like a lot of light. The internet worked Great and the staff was helpful when I needed directions to my meeting. A few of the women that work behind the front desk are really cute and it is worth stopping in just to check them out. The most disappointing part of the Ameritania experience is that the Bar is not open downstairs. It was raining out one night while I was there and I had to run outside to bring my business some place else instead of what looks to be a nice relaxing atmosphere they have set up in the lobby. « less

I apologize for the bar being closed during your visit. Our bar is currently under renovation, and we anticipate its reopening next year; the bar had also been closed earlier in the year due to the construction of our new conference room - which is now complete.

My sisters and I enjoyed a Thanksgiving shopping trip in NYC staying at the Ameritania. This hotel is in a fantastic location for tourists as it is around the corner from there theatre hosting the Dave Letterman Show and is only minutes from Time Square.
The hotel it's self is quite basic and would benefit from a bit of a make over however it was clean and safe and the staff that we interacted with were friendly and helpful. There was an issue with the hot water one of the days but our room was warm which I was worried about having read other reviews.
The hotel didn't have a restautant facilty but given the location this was not an issue. It is also very conveniently located in relation to Dollar car rental in Midtown (W52nd St.) which is very useful for anyone considering renting a car for shopping in Woodbury Common Premium Outlets. It's only two streets up which is ideal for dropping off the bags!!
In summary this hotel is not plush but if you get the room for a good price which we did then the location is the main selling point. « less

I reserved a deluxe room weeks in advance with a request for two double beds. We had one bed. Only had one working lamp in room, very cold with drafty windows. Had to buy a hoodie to sleep in. One elevator was broken, so we had extremely long waits; waited 35 minutes for elevator with our suitcases to check out. Lounge never open. Paid for internet for 24 hours, $15, but only able to get local service (wanderport, really poor internet service). Left hotel a five days ago and hold for incidentials is still on my VISA. The location, however is excellent. Paying $1,000 for 2 nights really should guarantee you a warm room and an elevator when you need it and the beds you asked for. « less

As we do our best to honor all room type requests, we cannot guarantee those requests until time of check-in. It appears that your stay was during a very busy weekend in New York City, and unfortunately our hotel did not have any additional rooms with two beds.
