Stayed 4 nights at the Wellington. Staff was friendly, good location, but the double bed in the room was like sleeping on a piece of plywood. The mattess was so old and cheap that you could literaly feel the springs beneath you. Also, it was snowing and very cold during our stay and heater did not work in the room. When I complained about the bed and heater, the staff told me that was the only room available and sorry for the problem. I reminded them I was paying over $200 a night and I had better mattresses in Motel 6! « less

After reading the reviews on here before we went I was a little worried so when we arrived at The Wellington it was a pleasent surprise. Firstly the location is perfect. A very short walk to Central Park and Times Square without all the hundreds of people on your doorstep. Surrounding the hotel is a couple of cafe / resturants which all served breakfast. We ate at Ben Ash every morning which is just across the road. I dont know about other meals but breakfast was great. When we arrived before check in time luckily our room was ready. There were quite a few people in the lobby checking in and out and we was asked if we could make our own way upto our room as all the bell hops were busy. This was not a problem at all as im more than capable of getting in a lift with my suitcase and finding my room. The room wasn't as small as expected, iv stayed in similar sized rooms in Europe. Our room had a double bed, huge tv with loads of channels, a desk, a bed side cabinet and chair, a very big mirror on the wall, and a cabinet with the tv on top. There was also a walk in closet with a hairdryer, iron and ironing board inside. The bathroom was small but it had a toilet, sink, mirror, towel rails, and a bath / shower so everything you need in a bathroom. There was another hairdryer in the bathroom but i couldnt get this to work. We checked out first thing in the morning and the bell hops were very efficient in storing our cases for us. They also organised us a car to get back to the airport. I was abit concerned that they had ordered us a car and not a yellow cab but he assured us it was a flat rate just a little more than a taxi, which it was and it was nice to travel back with abit of comfort. All the staff we spoke to at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. A great little hotel in a perfect place. I wouldnt hesitate in stopping again. « less

I booked our vacation stay in July 2009, called and confirmed our reservation a few days upon arrival and everything was in order. Upon our arrival on 12/03/09 we were told that the people that were staying in our suite had decided to stay another couple of days and that they had no rooms available for us. Instead they wanted to move us down 2 blocks to their sister hotel, the Salisbury. I was very upset by this and couldn't understand why the guest in our suite had a choice to just stay in our room and our reservations that we had booked 5 months in advance were now null and void??? The desk manager showed no emotion whatsoever and even told me he couldn't see what my problem was. He was not willing to offer me a discount of any kind, a free night, nothing at all until I finally got irate and then he offered us each (4 total) free breakfast vouchers for the length of our stay. The lobby of the Wellington was beautiful and when we walked into the Salisbury it was like a Motel 6 in comparison. However, my friend that was with me had stayed at the Wellington before and said that the suites were comparable. Either way I will never know because I didn't get to stay there nor do I intend to ever give them another chance. « less

Stayed with adult daughter in a Twin/Twin for $129. Room was small(not unlike rooms in Europe) Bathroom small but excellent hot water and water pressure. Hotel was attractive, guest relations folks pleasant and helpful. Having spent $89 to stay at Vanderbilt YMCA for bunk beds, shared bath waaay down the hall,no closet or even a hook to hang things the Wellington was a great deal . Easy access to subway at 59th or 53rd. « less
