The Waldorf is a fantastic hotel. But this last time I visited I noticed that the rooms were wanting some much need renovations. I know the hotel is old and that is part of its charm, but they need to address the pealing paint in the rooms and "antique" air conditioners. If you can over look these cosmetic issues, the hotel is lovely and they treat you like royalty. « less

Not only was it our anniversary, it was our 50th, and we'd been married at the Waldorf. So, usually more frugal travelers, we opted for one night at the site of it the Beginning. The threat of snow turned it into two nights. Reservations couldn't have been kinder - reducing the cost of the second night by half, and giving us a free upgrade as well, which provided a gorgeous room on the 40th floor with double exposure, the resulting magnificent view, and a lovely buffet breakfast each morning included. The mattress was the best, the six (!) down and feather pillows luxurious, the amenities matchless - almond soaps, lemon verbena shampoos, terry robes, large safe, umbrella, an alcove with sink and frig. In most hotels, you throw your used towels on the floor. At the Waldorf - an elegant hamper receives them. The grand total for us: $279+taxes/night. I say wait for a 'special' - they do have some - and grab it. « less

Service is good but not great. The room was very good, but I got an upgrade because I am a Hilton Honors member. The best part of the hotel is its location, but it is an expensive hotel. If you are looking for the best I will try St. Regis or the Four Seasons « less

Stayed at the Waldorf on short notice after the boutique hotel we origanlly had reserved proved unacceptable. Got a very competitive rate on the concierge floor. The continental breakfast was great and a real value. Concierge got us a reservation same night at a restaurant after we were told by the restaurant that reservations needed to be made 2 weeks in advance. Only minor negative is the cost of room service ($18 for a pot of coffee), but hey its New York. « less
