The good the bad and the ugly.
The good: Decent beds and clean sheets and modern looking decor. And two phone lines, which came in handy. Relatively clean (no bed bugs, yay!)
The bad: Never mind the "Starwood" label on anything associated with this hotel. These guys are here for one purpose and one purpose only - to make as much money from you as possible. Any difficulties were met with hostility from the staff starting with the fact that our entire stay was charged on the credit card when my friend placed the room on hold while we looked around about a month before our stay. When we tried to back out they said, "Too bad, we charged it. Sure you can cancel, but you'll have to pay us $1,000." The supervisor didn't care. Sheraton corporate office didn't care either. This set the tone and unfortunately, Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers never bothered to make any other impression except that they would charge the heck out of you if you let your guard down.
I wanted a newspaper but was told there are no newspapers on weekends. I wanted a free breakfast. I was informed that the deal my friend booked did not include any sort of continental breakfast yet it was $257/night not including the 30% NY taxes. I wanted to print out my boarding pass in the midst of the historic snowstorm that had messed up my flight. I asked the concierge for help - just a second or two. I was told to go downstairs to the business center and pay to use the internet. There were a few free terminals in the lobby, but they were hijaked by 10-year-olds playing computer games.
The 1960s looking dials to the heater were hidden under a modern heating vent and I couldn't figure out how to turn on the heat. I woke up freezing and had to call the desk to ask. I was on hold for 20 minutes at 3 a.m. That's a long time when all you want to do is get a quick answer so you can go back to sleep. Turns out the room becomes either stiffling hot or freezing as the low-medium-high and hot-cold dials seem to be for decoration only. Very strange.
The ugly: The hotel was originally built in the 1960s (I think) and though it initially looks decent, as you begin to hang out for a while you realize that it needs a major overhaul. The toilet flushed UPWARDS. Meaning that the water and anything else in the toilet came cascading skyward and onto a person prior to going down the toilet. I called twice on this and they didn't fix it. A call came in to find out if I was happy with the result of the repair. No, actually, I said, I am still getting crap blown into my face and on my jeans whenever I forget to close the lid before flushing. They sent a second guy up who told me it was a "special toilet" and I needed to "flush it very, very slowly" -- yeah, it's special because it's broken, thanks. They never followed up after that.
My flight was cancelled and rebooked for seven days later. I needed to make some calls to try to get out of town sooner and was on the phones for 8-10 hours. All those 1-800 numbers had a charge associated with them. Ouch! The front desk took 50% of the charges off, but not without a fight. In fact, the supervisor laughed at me when I said I would write about how uncooperative they were on Tripadvisor. Very condescending of her. 1500 flights were cancelled and it was a special circumstance. I had hoped for a little compassion, but nope.
I would not ever stay here again. I've lived in New York and stayed in hotels around the city for the past 5 years. This one is 50% more than what you'd pay in other really nice places that aren't smack in the middle of midtown. Try one of the cute neighborhoods a couple subway stops away for the true New York experience. I wouldn't touch this place again and not because of the minor problems - because of the extremely unhelpful attitude of the staff. « less

Let's first start off by thanking the guest services manager, Jorge Guerrero. He treated me and my girlfriend with respect, he gave us directions to a great cuban resturaunt, and even gave us a complimentary bottle of wine and platter of cheese...NOW...all that aside, my stay at this hotel was horrible...Lets start off with the room condition. The closet door was hanging off the hinges, so we asked for another room. The second room was even worse. Making a long story short...The blinds didn't work, we couldn't get the heat to shut off, so we tried to open the window and that didn't work, then we got it open and it wouldn't close. we we're on the 35th floor and it was snowin!!!! The sheets had a small blood stain on them, and it took them 3 hours to give us new ones at 12:00am. I paid for a romance package and got nothin...I had to call the front desk to remind them about it and it spoiled my surprise...And to top it all off, they hit me with a 117$ parking tab...Thanks alot sheraton...you almost ruined my weekend! If it wasn't for Jorge, i wouldve left the first day. I understand their in Times Square but never sacrafice location for service and cleanliness... « less

I made reservations at this hotel through Travelocity, and was assigned to a king room, rather than the room with two beds that I requested. Travelocity refused to assist me, but when I called the hotel directly, they were very kind and accommodating. I am looking forward to my stay in January. « less

I was having MAJOR issues with my travel company they split my 7 days into 3 day reservations and nothing was linked together, not a good thing to have happened over New Year’s .. However, after calling and talking with JOY CLARKE she finally found all the reservations got them all linked and now we don’t have to move rooms three times during our stay.. THANKS JOY!!! « less
