Well, the proportions are smaller than midwestern US, but that is a plus for us. I suppose if you value quantity over quality, there are plenty of restaurants (including supposedly "french" ones) to make you happy. The place is very small, charming -- our neighborhood restaurant (which we dont go to enough as we experiment all over boston). The menu is short (a good sign to me: likely ingredients fresh, etc.) and everything seems immediately prepared, so don't expect microwave speed. The prix fixe a good deal and the prices are roughly Zygomates -- main courses in the $20s. I wouldnt say this is the best value in Boston, but perhaps the best meals we have had in Boston, though we havent tried yet the supposed top places like Rialto. I would rank it below the best restaurants in comparable US cities (DC, Vancouver, Chicago...). « less

Aspasia, is a charming hidden treasure in the back-waters of Cambridge. We (my wife and i) discovered it on a walk-by about 2 years ago and have become fans ever since.
Its small cosy dining area of 8-10 tables lends itself to cold-winter evening and local seasonal cuisine. It's wine list is first rate, plenty of very reasonably priced good red wines by the bottle & half-bottles.
The three-course set tasting-menu served Monday to Friday evening is incredible value at $30 per head. « less

The restaurant setting is ok. It is a small restaurant with about 10 tables, noise level is very reasonable. Decorations are very modest, nothing fancy or interesting. There's nothing else around the area. It is in a residential neighborhood about 10 mins away from Harvard Square in Cambridge. This restaurant was apparently nomiated or awarded 'best romantic restaruant' a couple times, but I don't quite see why!
The waitstaff are nice and friendly. The service is horribly slow though. Takes more than an hour to get what you ordered. Food is very overpriced for the quality in my opinion. We ordered sweep potato soup (which was served almost cold), wild mushroom strudel, house smoked duck and petite lamb rack. The portions are very small, and the meals are (sorry but) tasteless. It costs around $45-55 per person if you also order wine, so I recommend you to spend your money elsewhere. « less
