I'm going to add to the bulk of comments already on here. The hotel is fine given what you are paying, very small but fine for sleeping and showering. Location is excellent, National History museum and Central Park on the doorstep, Times Square about a 20-25min walk away if you want the excercise. One thing to consider is it can be noisy. The walls are paper thin and the corridors have wooden floors so if your headboard happens to be against the hall you can literally hear every coming and going, but maybe thats my fault for trying to get my head down in the city that never sleeps!!! Flew in to Newark and it cost $65 to get to the hotel - not bad I guess. « less

Yeah, yeah...all reviewers said it: Rooms are small! and that is no figure of speech...we had a room with a double bed on the 7th floor and there was a small desk, but no room for a chair...that is small! Bathroom seems to have been renovated...but if you think the room is small...ha ha All that being said, room was clean and personnel was nice. Location is perfect. Really nice area. Make sure that if you do not like heat, you turn off the heather....it can be stifling and the window was open and outside it was about 30F « less

This was my 5th trip to NYC so I am well-acquainted with small hotel rooms here in the city. I normally stay in midtown at the Pod Hotel but decided to stay here since the rate was a bit better and the hotel was located close to Central Park.
Things started out well when I checked in on Friday and was given a room on the top floor, the doorman even helped me with my two large bags (I had been traveling for work prior to this segment so I had bags leftover from that).
However, then things were not so good.
The elevator is one of those 'beam me up Scotty' elevators which really only fit about 4 people comfortably--and that's with no bags. I had to have the bellman take my bags up separately because I just wasn't sure how I was going to fit in the elevator with them!
The room was small but mostly functional. I say mostly because I did have some left over work to do on my laptop and only realized later that there was no chair or desk in the room. Which left me sitting on my twin bed, with the laptop in my lap. At one point, the computer fell on the floor, damaging my jumpdrive I had plugged into the side of it. I suppose it was my fault because I was trying to get off the bed although the mattress was so firm/shot that if you moved at one end of it, you almost saw the earthquake-like ripples down to the other end before your stuff went flying off the bed.
Speaking of the mattress, it wasn't the worst one I had slept on this trip, but it wasn't nearly as nice as I had expected from other reviews and desperately needs to be replaced.
It was nice to have a sink in the room however the taps had been broken at some point so you had to work them to get the water to turn off--if you turned too far, the water would come back on again.
The radiator stayed on all night--which is good for someone who is cold-natured, but since i'm not, I had the window open the whole time. There is no screen on the window nor any air conditioning in the room so I wouldn't recommend this hotel during the hot NYC summers. I didn't have any issues with birds since it was super cold during my visit.
My room did not have a bathroom so I shared the one down the hall. I never had any issues getting into the bathroom despite the hotel being completely booked. The bathroom was clean although it did take up to 20 mins some times for the hot water to start! On my last morning, I went to the bathroom and wasn't able to get back into my room because my key stopped working. I had to go back down to the main desk and get the keys rekeyed. This was at 8:45am and check out isn't until much later.
Overall, I would say this is a OK place to stay if you need a place to crash in the city and don't want to spend too much (I paid $175 a night, taxes included but wouldn't spend more than that here). The subway is moderately close as is the Hudson and Central Park.
Next time I'm in the city though, I might go back to my old standby, the POD Hotel in midtown. « less

The Hotel is located in a very nice and also quiet district. By foot you will take like 5 minutes to the Central Park and maybe 10-15 minutes to the Time Square. Of course you also have a Subway Station close to the Hotel. The Hotel was clean and the employees were very friendly and helpful! Our private bathroom was small but clean. The only negativ aspect was in our first night, because we had a hotel room with a "connecting door" and we could hear every singel word from our neighbours which had a baby. But it was no problem to get an other (quiet) room for the rest of our stay! « less
