Obviously being a budget hotel, it isn't fancy in the least, but it is safe, the staff are extremlely friendly, and the location is fabulous! We had a private room which was of a good size, and had a nice newly renovated bathroom. This hostel is within walking distance of everywhere, you can walk down into chelsea, and greenwich village and across the broadway or opposite direction up into the upper west side, and times square etc.. The only complaint i have is of the strong noice from 8th ave, as New Yorkers have serious beeping their horn problems and it is never quiet! Also there is a nightclub across the road so on a saturday night - dont expect to sleep! There are also mattress protecters on the bed's so that you are sure that you will not get eaten alive whilst you sleep by bed bugs! All in all pleasant experience as in NYC, u rarely spend time in your room, so this is the type of place where you can base yourself and go off and explore the amazing city without feeling guilty of expensive hotel costs. :) « less

The same night we checked in we saw a mouse run in our room. We found droppings from the mouse in our bathroom on numerous occasions. Our door was left wide open by housekeeping (which appeared to have done nothing all week except empty the trash). We stayed in a dorm room and had also reserved an apartment suite. Part of our party arrived two nights before the rest of the party. We asked to see the apartment and talked to them about it two times. However, the night before the rest of our party arrived we were told the apartment had been given away. The noise is horrible! There were people talking outside our windows all night long. Not a place for young children with the language we heard. Had to use ear plugs, but still heard plenty of noise. Hard mattresses and cheap bunk beds. Very disappointed and would never recommend this hotel to anyone. « less

We received a warm welcome from the very friendly staff when we arrived at the hotel. We had quite a luggage which we had to carry all the way up to the second floor of the hotel. With that tedious job out of the way, we were happy to find that our double room was quite nice - small, but very nice with a view over 8th avenue. The room was clean, and the shared bathroom/shower was always spot clean and relatively unoccupied in spite of the hotel being fully booked when we were there. It would have been nice to get Internet access in the room, but there was a nice terrace next to the service desk where you could sit outside and connect to the Internet.
In all, I must say that this is a good choice for the budget traveler. The room we stayed in was extremely tiny but we managed to stay there although we had four fully loaded suitcases by the end of our stay.
Don't expect any luxuries there since this is in fact a budget hotel, but a very nice one at that - One I would definitely recommend to fellow budget travelers looking for a stay in NY at a good location, with friendly staff, for a reasonable price. « less
