I first must clarify that I am a Starwood Preferred Member. I was traveling to New York on very short notice and prefer to stay at W or Westin hotels. Although the online reservation system was showing availability, I was having difficulty booking my dates. I called Starwood Preferred and received excellent service - they were even able to secure 2 nights for me with my Starwood points over a weekend during the ridiculously busy month of December in Manhattan. I cannot say enough good things about the Starwood Preferred staff.

The hotel was excellent during our stay, but again was free for us with the use of my points. I would not have paid the $550 rack rate for the nights I was there, but I wouldn't pay $550 for a night at any hotel in New York! That's just me. However, Christmastime in New York is always ridiculously expensive so it is to be expected to pay that much.

The front desk staff was very friendly, accommodating and willing to help with whatever we needed. Our room was not yet available, but they called my cell phone the moment that it opened up. The bell staff was integral in providing us with cabs and umbrellas to get to our destinations - we visited during a massive rain-changing-to-snow storm.

The lobby area and both bars were lively at all times of the day, which is something I like - I was there for vacation so I felt a great sense of community and fun with my fellow travelers enjoying the common spaces along with myself and my guest. The hotel's location is perfect for visiting many tourist destinations and makes for some great walking around the city.

Rooms are small - but this is New York, so it wasn't unexpected. More like a boutique hotel than a "typical" hotel. The bed and shower of course are beyond comfortable. I appreciated the eclectic decor inside the rooms.

All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel for travelers to New York looking for a little more of an upscale, young, trendy stay, especially if it is more affordable around non-holiday time. « less
