My adult son and I booked a room from Saturday 12/12 through Tuesday 12/15 at Showboat for a change of scenery--we usually stay at Caesars. We arrived late (11:00pm) Saturday night, and the room we wanted wasn't available, which I understand that it's a "first come, first serve" reservation system. The young lady at the check-in was very nice and told me to call Guest Services between 9:00-10:00 the next morning and have our room switched to the type we wanted as soon as one became available. I called guest services at 9:45 Sunday morning and the woman that answered listened to what I said, told me to call back around noon and hung up on me. We going to lunch at noon, so I stopped by the Guest Services desk to see about our room, and the man at the desk told me to come back between 2:00-3:00. Finally at 3:00 I was given a room in the new tower by a nice man who seems to like his job a lot more than everyone else that works there. The room was large, clean and the decor was nice--the only complaint I have about the room was that the water pressure in the shower is almost nonexistant, you basically have to stand under the shower head and let it drip on you. We wanted to eat at the buffet but it was closed until 12/24, which isn't mentioned on the website, or anywhere else where a customer could see what other dining plans to arrange. We went next door to the Taj Mahal and when I told the cashier at their buffet why we were eating there instead of at Showboat, she comped us a dinner for our inconvenience! We spent quite a bit of time in the Mardi Gras casino, and practically every slot machine I sat down at was littered with cigarette ashes, empty glasses, dirty napkins--I realize that there have been cutbacks, but you'd think that some of the dealers standing around empty tables would have enough motivation to grab a cloth and clean. We won't be staying here again--customer service is definitely lacking. « less

I stayed here in October on a comp so it would be difficult to complain about something I received for free. Even though I have gambled here, I have never stayed here.

Location: Showboat is at the far eastern end of the boardwalk. Its a long stretch to get to the center of the boarkwalk. Parking is not free, on this night, it was $5 to get in. But you can leave the car as long as you want as long as you don't move it.

Check-in: Long wait. Only two desk clerks and a lot of customers in line. It probably took about 20 minutes to get to the desk clerk. Received a room in the Bourbon Tower which I am told is the nicer and newer tower.

Rooms: Very nice. Large and very attractive. We were told there would be a flay screen TV. There wasn't but who cares, we were not in A.C. for TV. The bed was a king and very comfortable. The flow on the shower was a little flat for my taste, but cutting back on water seems to be the order of the day in hotels today. Internet is not free, I believe it was $10 for 24 hours.

Amenties: Weill its a first class casino hotel, you its got spas, restaurants and many similar things. As far as the casino, I think you can start to see the cutbacks in Atlantic City and how they affect guest service. Cocktail service has tailed off significantly. I gambled here in May and the service was outstanding. Some of the slot machines were pretty filthy.

Overall, its a very nice hotel. I was disappointed by the casino and some of the service. This is really a function of the cutbacks. But A.C. is in a pretty steep decline, so its understandable, if unpleasant. « less
