I had booked a room at Bally's for 5 days from Dec 10th to 14th. We like it there but are always ready in case they offer us a room in the Claridge Tower. This time the 'Borgata' had sent us free room offers, so I booked the first two nights with them just in case our room at Bally's wasn't very good. Also we wanted to try Borgata for the first time. We were given free show tickets at Borgata too. Since our room was good at Bally's we only stayed for part of the time at Borgata. The machines didn't pay very well and the drink service was bad. They would'nt let us check in a cooler with our luggage and I was ready to leave right away. My wife calmed me down and I was eventually able to carry a beer into the casino in a glass. The smoking area was very small so I had tried all the machines and was ready to quit gambling with-in an hour or so. Pretty odd for me. The room wasn't worth much more than say, $75. if we were paying. Just so-so. No place to get bacon and eggs for breakfast at all. We walked all around the place for about 30 minutes. So we drove to a restaurant on Pacific ave. and had breakfast there. Pretty bad for a so-called resort on a Friday morning. So check-out we did and headed to Bally's. We've stayed at Showboat, Csesars, Harrah's, and Bally's before and once again things were just great. The food was good and we love the Diamond Club. Our room was just as good as at the other place and a lot more comfortable. It was close whenever I needed to go back to it for any reason. Nice large T.V.(not like the little fella at the Borgata) and the one night we felt like just relaxing, we were very comfortable. One thing I am kind of dissapointed about is that our Diamond club membership will be running out soon. When it does we won't be able to visit and sit with our friends in there anymore-even though our tier scores added together would make one of us a Diamond Club member once again.We don't mind gambling a lot at a casino and all we ask for is a few free drinks and a meal or two complimentary. It is a long drive for us to Atlantic City and without the Diamond club option we probably won't be going back. But we have always been happy with the rooms we have been given time and time again at the Harrah's property's. Also the room service has been excellent with no exception. My wife might raise her eyebrows at my saying this-but even the drink service is pretty good generally. If I do go to the room to get a tall glass of beer when I'm tired of waiting-they don't look at me funny at the elevator or on the floor. These little things make a person feel comfortable and we feel comfortable at Harrah's property's. All in All--Thanks Harrahs for showing us a good time!! Brian&Brenda Matthie « less

An okay place to rest your head for a night if you get a room for a cheap web rate. But don't consider this place for any lengthy stay or if you have to pay more than $70/night. I found the Bally's hotel a confusing mish-mash of dumpiness. There's no logical flow to things; things are hard to find, and you often have to go way out of the way to get to what you're seeking. I think this is probably because the place is rather old and oddly physically connnected to Wild West and Caesars, both of which also are Harrah's properties. To get anywhere, guests at Bally's must go up and down a labrynth of elevators and escalators and through mostly dark, narrow, low-ceilinged doorways and corridors. This is made worse because some escalators seem to be routinely shut down (budget reasons?).

Also, CASINO WARNING -- If you wanna play blackjack here or at any other of the Harrah's-owned properties in A.C., stay away. Harrah's BJ rules are different and put players at a distinct disadvantage compared to most other casinos. Bally's/Harrah's BJ dealers in A.C. are allowed to hit soft 17. Most other (good) casinos do not do this. Harrah's is trying to sneakily squeeze extra bucks outta you this way. Instead, play at the Borgata or Tropicana. Both usually have plenty of $10 tables and better atmosphere. And the dealers there must stand on 17, hard or soft.

The poker room at Bally's is kinda Mickey Mouse -- small, out of the way, not very busy. But it was clean. Poker at Bally's is an afterthought. The Borgata poker room blows this one away in every way.

The common areas of Bally's, particularly the stretch from the parking garage to the casino floor and hotel check-in are terribly delapidated, dark, and maze-like. Yuck. For some reason, feels like entering WalMart on a rainy day.

The "eateries" are few in number, hard to find and offer little in terms of a good, quick meals. There are some very nice looking restaurants on the sixth(!) floor, but I did not try any of them, as they were out of the way and most were closed during the day.

The casino floor is very generic, save for the table game areas, which are quite nice. (But again, I did not play there for the above-stated reasons.)

Basically, I use Bally's as a cheap place to spend the night when I can't get a comped room at a nearby, better casino. It's a short walk or a short drive to the places I really want to go. « less
