The Flamingo is not the nicest hotel on the strip but is it still nice? Absolutley, it's clean and everything works.
-Check In- Flamingo is an old hotel that's been remodeled and expanded over many years, the parking situation is a little confusing, Check In took nearly 30 minutes, only 1 person working the desk when first arrived, over time it moved to 3 and that was it, even when there was a super long line only 3 people checked people in, very slow moving line. The guy we got was okay, but not there to please us. Obviously he was trying to move as fast as he could to check people in and that may have played into how he treated us. We asked for the GO room but refused to pay $30 a night to upgrade, sorry, in Vegas, you don't stay in your room. We opted for what we reserved, we asked for a view and the guy said, "Oh the GO rooms have all the views" but he did set us up with a fair view, 16th floor.
-Room- A coconut perfume is pumped throughout the entire hotel and it's not too bad if you don't suffer from allergies from that kind of thing. Our room was standard, but big and in today's world, value is everything and this room was value, it was perfectly clean, beds were comfy, everything worked and was in good repair, who cares about the GO rooms? What do they have the standard rooms don't? Maybe a non HD flat screen TV, Ipod radio and TV in mirror, I don't care about that stuff. Our room had a standard TV which was perfectly fine, who comes to Vegas to watch TV anyway? Too much to do than stay in your room. The view was great, we overlooked the pool deck, it's winter so it was closed and we could see the North Strip hotels all the way down to Wynn. Bathroom was small but everything worked.
-Everything else- The Flamingo is pretty value oriented, besides those other bloated overpriced casinos, this place was fine. The casino is nothing spectacular, the restaurants are pretty good, specifically the Burger Joint, there is a food court across from one of the elevator banks. We stayed at the Flamingo over the weekend of December 12-14th, 2009. We were offered a room here due to my wife’s play at the slots. We were offered a free weekend at the Flamingo or a couple other choices (Rio, Bally’s) and free tickets to see Jeff Dunham. We’ve been wanting to see him live for a couple years and since my wife thought it would be a great BIRTHDAY present for her we booked a flight. We’ve stayed at a few hotels along the strip. Since this was a quick weekend trip we wanted to be on the strip and near Caesars where the show Jeff was performing. The Flamingo is one of the older hotel/casinos now with all the changes to the strip over the years. If you are looking for luxury, 5-star hotel, trying to impress your significant other with state of the art accommodations... you want to go elsewhere. HOWEVER, if you are looking for a quick trip and only need the room to rest, this is not a bad choice. We did have a few issues which I will mention here, but they did not keep us from enjoying our stay. As I stated, the hotel is not 5-star. The carpets could use a good cleaning. Our room was nice, but this being an older hotel it could use some upgrades. But for a “free” room on the strip I suppose we could have done worst. We had a mini fridge in the room which had a sandwich in it upon our arrival. NO it was not a mini-bar fridge, just a small box fridge you may have in your office or bedroom. Not knowing the originals of the sandwich, it was quickly discarded. We have a friend who joined us on this trip who did not have a fridge in her room. But she had an alarm clock. We did not. No worries. We have cell phones with clocks, but you would think a room in a hotel on the main portion of the strip would have an alarm clock. We had an issue with the Burger joint on the premises. Ok, not the restaurant, but the waiter. We sat for about 10-15 minutes before he had to be called/found to take our order, then had major attitude when he took them… thus losing points on the tip in my opinion. But the setup was weird. 1 person took our drink order, knuckle took the food order, another person brought the food, and another person refilled our glasses. It was a bit much. We like to get the name of our server, but with a group of people serving it was a bit annoying. We had a better outing at breakfast the next morning at another restaurant on the premises. Our waitress there told us that waiter has been a problem for a while. He was at the breakfast restaurant for a while before going to the burger joint. Back to the room, we stopped by after breakfast and housekeeping knocked on the door and barged in. I told the housekeeper we would be 5 minutes and she left. When we got back to the room later that day our room had not been cleaned. The bed was not made and the bathroom had not been cleared. Now, I know this was a free room, but we did expect room service in the form of collecting our towels, cleaning our shower. We called the front desk and fresh towels were delivered. So, when we checked out, my wife voiced our displeasure and we were credited for our meals at the restaurants. So for that, I have to say, Way to go Flamingo check out service! Would I stay here again though? Probably not because we have quite a few more hotels on the strip we have yet to stay. But as I said, it your stay is just to rest your head at night and to be in the middle of everything, it’s not that bad. And before i forget, Jeff Dunham was great. « less
