... hop off the train in Vicenza but will need a Milan to Vicenza ticket, followed by a Vicenza to Venice SL ticket. You can still take the faster Freccia trains. Villa Rotonda is only open to the public on Wednesdays so you may need to factor this into your plans ... more

I'm not sure what your reason is for choosing Udine; it's not on many people's lists. Closer and more interesting, I think, are Padua, Vicenza, Verona. If you enjoy architecture, you might consider a day touring the Palladian villas, most of them near Vicenza. ... more

We went by the slow regional ACTV bus and really quite enjoyed the trip. I am pretty sure there is a direct bus as well, maybe ATVO. It was dirt cheap and I think took less than an hour. Gave us time to admire the villas along the Brenta Canal. ... more
