Regular posters to these forums who are far more experienced when it comes to car rental in Mexico (e.g. mapchick) all say that you should PURCHASE all the optional insurance available and absolutely do NOT rely upon any coverage that your credit card company may provide. HTH ... more

... is correct. You need to go with the optional insurance at the time of rental. The issue is the rental agency will want payment from you (or in case of an accident the other party) and not through an insurance company from out of the country. Best to be safe ... more
