Staying in Bettona was definitely a good choice and Palazzo Fiumi-LaPlaca: Gufo probably the best in town. The host/cook definitely made us feel at home. The rustic finish with all amenities made for a very nice stay. We had Palazzo Fiumi-LaPlaca: Gufo as home-base and traveled in all directions on daytrips. Our apartment made for a good kick-back after every... more

Palazzo Fiumi-LaPlaca is set in the ancient hill town of Bettona with beautiful views across the valley. We stayed in Gufo, a studio apartment with solid stone walls and a mezzanine area for the comfortable double bed. The kitchen area is very well equipped with a full set of sharp knives. Michael has renovated the palazzo with a fine eye... more

My wife and I just returned from a wonderful vacation in Umbria. During that time, we stayed 10 days at Palazzo Fiumi-LaPlaca in the Gufo apartment. First of all, Bettona is an authentic Umbrian hill town that is completely charming and picturesque. The views over the rooftops of the surrounding hills and valley were right out of a travel magazine....

Additional amenities & feature info
The palazzo was restored and opened in 2008. There are many stone walls with rustic beamed ceilings and complemented by beautiful Mission style furnishings . The rooms are spacious, the kitchen (with marble counter) has everything you will need to prepare full meals, the bed is extremely comfortable with beautiful linens and soft towels, and the bathroom has a full tub/show combination. From the windows the entire Spoleto Valley opens ups with Assisi, Mount Subasio, and the Apennines in the distance. Sunrises are breathtakingly beautiful. The apartment exudes comfort and tranquility.

How to get there
Railway: Assisi: 9.3 mi
The closest large airport is Rome's Fiumicino. There is also the small international airport (served by RyanAir) of Perugia/Assisi (now San Francesco). It is about 25 minutes away.

TRAIN: It is easy to take a train from the airport. You will need to transfer in Rome for a train to Assisi. Or, you can pick up a rental car at Perugia or Foligno.

CAR: Most guests rent a car and drive to me.
Head in the direction of Rome and the road will turn into the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare), which is a ring road around Rome. You are looking for the A1 to Firenze (Florence). Exit at uscita 10, but 8, 9, and 10 all have the same exit. Keep heading for Firenze / A1 and get a ticket. This much should have taken you about 40 minutes.
Once on the A1 you drive for about 25 minutes and exit at ORT...
