    Bowderbeck has just been awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2014 and is ideal for walkers, cyclists, artists, photographers and families who love the countryside, it sleeps up to 6 people all year round, and 8 people in the summer months (May - September). Recently refurbished it is tastefully decorated and full of character with original features including exposed beams and stone floors, and a newly installed wood burning stove. It has a large garden, with a natural mountain stream and pools.

    Located just outside the lovely village of Buttermere, its an easy 10 minute walk either down a pretty bridleway or along the road to two lively pubs, The Bridge and The Fish which both serve food, and 2 cafés...

    There is a fully equipped kitchen, a comfortable living room, separate dining room and a wooden verandah extension with a large west-facing balcony with panoramic views of the valley, which is a wonderful place to sit out in the summer with a pre-dinner drink to watch the sun go down!! There are four bedrooms; one double, one twin and a single upstairs; and bunk beds in the verandah.

    The living room is comfortable and spacious, with a cosy wood burning stove and a lovely view down to the lake from the window. There is no TV, but there are plenty of books, playing cards and a whole cupboard of board games and jigsaws to keep you occupied! There is a separate dining room which can seat up to eight people.     The price is fully inclusive of all bills, bed linen, towels and logs for the wood-burning stove. Bowderbeck can sleep up to 8 people between Easter and September and a maximum of 6 people between October and Easter as one of the bedrooms is in a wooden annexe which is not centrally heated which is fine in summer but not very comfortable in winter.

    Bowderbeck is situated in the Buttermere valley, just outside Buttermere village in the North West corner of the Lake District National Park.

    The nearest towns are Keswick and Cockermouth, 8-10 miles away. There is a bus service from Keswick, or taxis. Once in Buttermere you do not need a car as the village is walking distance.

    The nearest airports are Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds, and the nearest train station is Penrith. A car is essential.

This is our eleventh year staying in cottages to explore the Lakes. Criteria includes a lovely location where you have good walking from the door, an un-spoilt cottage which has character and is warm and well equipped, a real fire and a good pub down the road. This is a beautiful, and tastefully refurbished cottage near Buttermere. Excellent walks from the doorstep, amazing drives to local towns, a real sense of isolation yet a short walk to lively pubs. This has to be one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed - my 7 year old son saying that it had the best scenery he's ever seen in England!
