    .Our Civil-War era house is a perfect go-to or get-away for those who are stopping for only one night and for those who need a homebase as they explore the area. Visitors can stay home and enjoy the porch, deck, and 1/2 acre backyard, or they can venture out to the nearby attractions--battlefields, shopping malls, biking or hiking trails, canoeing/kayaking/tubing on the Antietam Creek and Potomac River.
    The log and stone house has three levels--UPSTAIRS: bedroom with a double and a twin bed, half bath, and 'landing library' that has a convertible double sofa bed. A chaise lounge on which to read the books and magazines there. We were watching National Geographic in bed while eating breakfast and decided to be spontaneous. We got in contact with the owner and within an hour...we were headed to Maryland. The house itself is old and time period of the civil war, making our battlefield getaway all the more enjoyable. The beds are comfortable, breakfast was included, plenty to read... more

Friends and relatives joined my wife and I at this house as our base for seeing plays at the Contemporary American Theater Festival and for hiking through the Antietam battlefield. Although small, this house was cozy and accommodated our every need, including several bridge hands. more

We stayed at the Antietam Guest House on a bike trip with our children. It is spacious and the owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome. There was food in the fridge and all the amenities of home. The Battlefield and downtown are extremely close. The kids loved this place as did we. more
