Trying to book your own accommodation is made easy with web sites like VRBO and Home Away. But there's always a certain amount of apprehension. West Maui can be expensive and Makani Sands is reasonably prices, by Maui standards. So I wasn't expecting much. But I was pleasantly surprised. The location is perfect: close to grocery store, some shops, restaurants and farmer's market. Two minute drive to "the strip" of fancy hotels on the Ka'anapali Beach and golf course. The property is a bit older, but well cared for. The ocean front sea wall has been recently upgraded, the grounds are beautifully landscaped, the deck washed every morning, the tiki lights lit every evening. The little beach out front is perfect for wading or snorkeling with the turtles if you like. Boogey boards and noodles are supplied. Our suite was #106 on the ground floor. We loved our lanai and the ability to walk a few steps out to the ever present lounge chairs. The suite was FULLY equipped, comfy king...
