We wanted three days on the Hilo side of the Island, to relax and unwind. This place was great. Be prepared for it to be away from most of the hubbub. It's about 30 minutes to the nearest town, and almost 45 to Hilo. Not a ton of nearby restaurants. Sheri, the house mistress, was wonderful. Very accommodating.

Seeing this place in pictures doesn't do it justice. This place was straight out of a fairy tale. John's creativity and talent is all over the castle. We had a late flight, but Sheri was there to give us a big warm welcome. We stayed in the Queens room and awoke to a gorgeous view of the ocean. The castle...

Our castle is a short walk to one of the best black sand beaches on the Big Island of Hawaii where you can swim with wild dolphins (we have on a number of occasions!) A view of migrating whales is also possible from the castle if you visit at the right time of year. The active volcano, natural steam vents, lush tropical gardens & forests, majestic waterfalls, warm water pond, champagne pond and a bottomless green lake located in a crater, are also nearby for you to enjoy. Natural Adventures in relaxation abound - massage, watsu (water shiatsu), yoga, just name it and we have it here. Historic Pahoa Village is only a short ten to fifteen minute drive and has a number of highly recommended restaurants and a Natural Food Store.
