Neighborhood: Walkable community in the old sugar cane town of Pahala, Hawai'i. The town is located between the two entrances to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park and is immediately surrounded by macadamia nut orchards, cattle ranches and coffee farms. Beautiful ocean and mountain views can be seen from the town. Pahala is mostly dry and sunny but it does rain on occasion, mostly in the wet season (winter and spring). Sit back, sip some award-winning Ka'u Coffee, and relax in "old Hawai'i". Swim, snorkel and sunbathe with sea turtles at Punalu'u Black Sand Beach, 7 minutes away. Tour coffee farms and the Ka'u Coffee Mill, 5 minutes away.

I was looking for a rental in a less touristy area with easy access to the natural wonders of Hawaii and found that in this rustic location. I like to take walks early in the morning and enjoyed my rambles both around the little town of Pahala and into the countryside beyond it's near borders. The location also affords easy drives to Volcanos National Park, or the black sand beach, Punalu'u. Explorations further to both coasts are also easy.

The cottage is pleasant, but not perfectly spotless, so if you need absolute cleanliness or are terrified of insects, this might not be your place. Cockroaches grow really big in Hawaii.
