With sea glimpses from the first floor, this splendid 1937 house is resplendent in its position in the prestigious, peaceful Palm Bay area of Cliftonville between Margate and Broadstairs on the Isle of Thanet in Kent. The famous sandy Blue Flag beaches are within a few minutes walk and the seaside resort of Margate and the enchanting town of Broadstairs both about half an hour stroll or ten minutes drive. I stayed with my son, daughter-in-law and 3 grandchildren. We chose Margate because my daughter has a thriving coffee shop here plus we were intrigued by the art deco 'Pink House'. The house and garden was a delight, my grand-son (18months) love the stairway... on his way to bed he would say 'goodnight' to the trees and flowers and the same in the morning. The garden was lovely for picnic teas and general game playing. We walked to the beach on 3 occasions and attended various workshops and events during the week. all in all this was a huge success for us and I would highly recommend the 'Pink House' for any family looking for a slightly different place to stay. more

I adore anything deco and couldn't believe it when my husband (who had told me we were going for a seaside weekend but no other details) drove us up to the Pink House! It is one of the most beautiful examples of a 1930s house that I have seen. Very similar to the ones in Frinton, Essex and also to some in South Beach, Miami. Inside it is wonderfully preserved. The kitchen and bathroom are original and in great condition. There is a very old gas range and fitted pantry in the kitchen and the bathroom is original I am sure. There are some beautiful mirrors and a table set with a tea tray to welcome you. Also a tea trolley set with sherry!

I can't emphasis enough what a lovely feel this house has and how sympathetically it has been restored. It is ongoing work the owner says and the carpets are due to be replaced with parquet flooring which will be gorgeous.

The other stunning aspect is the amount of light flooding the whole house from the huge windows everywhere...
