A common misconception is that downtown Austin IS Austin. Although it's a great place to be (mostly at night), the heart of Austin is much broader than that. Hyde Park is in just the right location, to be near downtown, while still having plenty to see/do during the day. This is an even mix of city life with a quaint feel. With much of Austin's action happening within a 3 mile radius, you'll have quick access to the University of Texas, downtown, the Austin Convention Center, and many other Austin happenings. Conveniently situated between Red River and Guadalupe street (and a straight shot to I-35), you don't have to be a master navigator to drive around. And, if you don't feel like driving, you can simply step outside to catch the bus that stops within 30 feet of your front door. Also, with a few varieties of local restaurants and shops within a 5 minute walk, you don't have to venture far for a night out. Or, when you're not feeling like a tourist, you can also walk to Shipe Park or one of the nearby cafés, and simply lay low.
