Rich in culture and history, from the dancing saint Kuya to the palaces of the Taira and Minamoto- The strongest Samurai families of the time ( 12th century)It is the ground of one of the most known episodes of Japanese history, the battle between the Taira and the Minamoto which is still a very popular story in many Noh, Kabuki plays as well Japanese TV dramas to the present day.

Nice machiya but quite old. Cleanliness is above average but I think I saw spider webs in one of the corners. The kettle needs to be changed. It looked so old that we simply refused to use it. Even with the provided map, some (2 out of 4) taxi drivers still find it hard to find the place. It's always... more

Beautiful, fully renovated geisha houses in the Kiyomizudera area east of Kyoto. A quick train and subway ride from Kyoto station and then about a 10 minute walk. The houses are side by side and each comfortably accommodate 6. The new house has brand new tatami matting in the bedrooms and the smell is overpowering, but will subside over time.... more

This house is not meant for large people. If your bum is too big you won't be able to get into the kitchen. Otherwise, it is a really nice place to stay.
