The renovation of Senraku House located in downtown Kyoto was completed in Spring 2011. Now, modern convenience has been added to its history of the house.

This small Traditional Japanese House is on a quiet lane-way in a very convenient area in Kyoto: 24HR convenience stores, 24HR supermarket, cafés, bakeries, IZAKAYA, restaurants, banks, department-stores, drug stores, a rent-a-cycle (bicycle-rental) shop, a rent-a-car office, Sento (a type of traditional Japanese communal bath house), hospital, and everything you need are close by.

Nijo Castle, Nishiki Market, and Shinkyogoku Shopping Arcade are within a short walking distance, and from the train station which is less than 10 minute walk away from the house, you can visit and see numerous historic sites in Kyoto: such as Kinkakuji (...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

Stayed here for 4 nights. Super convenient location, 10 mins walk from Nishiki market and Nijo castle. We got a little lost on our first day but soon got our bearings around Kyoto. Rieko popped in to meet us and was very helpful in supplying us with information about transport & nearby sites to visit. Thank you Rieko, this saved...

Management response:

Thank you for your review. Senraku is truly in a ‘super convenient location’. Please allow me to comment on your points, Senraku is an average size house for Kyoto City, and by Japanese standard it is comfortable for a family of four. The stairs are what adds to the character and charm of Senraku. We did contemplate putting in a... more

We stayed in Rieko and Thomas' beautiful Japanese traditional home for four nights. Right from our initial enquiry, Thomas & Rieko were clear, efficient and forthcoming with all the information we required about the property. The property was very reasonably priced for our budget and met all of our needs. The instructions on how to access the property and advice... more

Management response:

Thank you for your review of Senraku House during your stay. With every guest we try to make the experience as easy and authentic as possible from the enquiry stage to check out. We have tried to blend the old with the new while keeping with traditional living in Kyoto which sometimes means reverting back to the old, by this... more

We stayed at this house in October with my husband and two kids (5 and 3). We wanted them to experience the traditional Japanese style homes and we loved it! The house is very well restored, it looks and feels like a traditional home but has been restored to have a modern bathroom, with a large nice shower and a... more

Management response:

Thank you for your valuable and straightforward review of Senraku House. We are delighted that you and family enjoyed the traditional elements of a Japanese house along with all of the modern conveniences that today’s world travellers expect. Moreover, thank you for being wonderful tenants and treating Senraku House as if it was your own. We want every guest to... more
